Student Leadership
Over the last week our student leaders have had the opportunity to design and share their learning with others within the school. Last Friday afternoon, the YELP group worked with the Junior Primary to find a ‘Magic Spot’. The purpose of this activity is to find a peaceful place outside that the students are encouraged to use their senses to notice the environment. Once they have found a magic spot the students begin by closing their eyes and listening. After a few moments of silence the students become more aware of the background noise. They are encouraged to record what they smell, see and hear. The JP students have recollected their observations as I checked in with them this morning….
Shelby – I heard birds singing.
Emma – I could hear the ducks quacking and the cars going by.
James – I could hear the wind and grass blowing.
Ryley – I could feel the stump, it was close by and I heard lots of bees buzzing.
Charlotte – I felt lots of different textures.
Jai – I felt the wind blow on me and it felt nice.
Ella – I heard a gentle wind.
Jasmine – I smelt the flowers in the tree I was near. I saw rosellas.
Rachael – I heard the birds singing.
Well done to Elly, Montana, Kaleb and Alisha – the activity certainly achieved its aim of connecting our junior students with the natural environment.
During the first session of the morning each day this week the students who attended the VIVID experience in Sydney will lead photo editing workshops. Blade started the ball rolling this morning sharing editing techniques using the “Snapseed” App. Students then went outside and took photos and came back in to edit the photos. We look forward to seeing a slide show of their photos at our next assembly.
Purple Orange
In the Purple Orange project we are looking into Inclusion for all students in their learning. Our mentors, two of whom are young adults living with a disability, will travel to work with us in the school in Week 9 this Term. They will meet with our Inclusion Leaders, teachers, and make a brief presentation to each class about their experiences at school and what supports they found useful in reference to our Inquiry question - “What does inclusion mean for you in the classroom?”. We look forward to the insights our mentors can provide.
Work Experience
This week we have a former student, Paris Trotter doing Work Experience in the Junior and Middle Primary classes. The students were excited to have Paris in their classes and helping with reading and other activities.
