Message from the Pastor In the beginning, Christians called the Eucharist “the breaking of the bread”. Break-ing, of course, was done in order to give half to others. When Christ instituted the Eucha-rist, He took bread, broke it and gave it to out saying: “Take this all of you and eat of It.” The Eucharist is the bread of all of us. The Eucharist is to share. As long as we haven’t learned to give, we cannot receive the Eucharist. Christ told the apostles, “Give the crowds something to eat yourselves.” Every Eucharist in which we participate carries with it a mis-sionary spirit that impels us to go and share the Bread of Life with the poor in the human family. The problem lies in the fact that some Christians have turned the Sunday Eucharist into an empty rite, a barren devotion, instead of a commitment. We have turned the Sunday Eucharist into an individual devotion and have forgotten about being a family. Around the Eucharist we are a serving Church, not a triumphalist Church. In Communion we receive Christ, the suffering servant who gives His life for the world and who calls us to turn our gaze on the poor and the oppressed. Eucharistic devotion should not be a sentimental one that only says “My Lord and my God”. It must be an authentic devotion meaning surrender, love and service.

Mensaje del Párroco Los cristianos, al comienzo, llamaban a la Eucaristía, “partir el pan”. Partir, claro está, para dar la mitad a los demás. Cristo al instituir la Eucaristía, tomó el pan, lo partió y lo dio diciendo: “Tomen y coman todos de él”. La Eucaristía, es el pan de todos. La Eucaristía es compartir. Mientras no aprendamos a dar, no podemos recibir la Eucaristía. Cristo dijo a los apóstoles: “Dénles ustedes de comer a esas muchedumbres”. En cada Eucaristía en que participamos hay un espíritu misionero; ir y compartir el Pan de Vida con los pobres de la familia humana. Lo malo está en que algunos cristianos han hecho de la Eucaristía dominical un rito vacío, una devoción estéril, y no un compromiso. Hemos hecho de la Eucaristía dominical una devoción individualista y nos hemos olvidado del espíritu de familia. En torno a la Eucaristía somos la Iglesia que sirve, no la Iglesia triunfalista. En la comunión recibimos a Cristo, el servidor que sufre y da la vida por el mundo y nos llama a volver nuestros ojos hacia los po-bres y oprimidos. La devoción a la Eucaristía no ha de ser una devoción sentimental de “Señor mío y Dios mío”, ha de ser devoción auténtica que significa entrega, amor y servicio.
