omeowners surely want their house to be unique. From the shape of the house, to the interiors, painstakingly considering every detail

if a person wants to have a structure, he can call his home. Even though you may see houses that look alike on the outside, once you enter, they are very different. One aspect of the house that makes it truly unique is the metal décor that you see.

Even though the walls of the room are plain, jazz it up with décor here and there, the room will have a life of its own. More so, people just love looking at the décor especially if it is one of a kind or a collector’s item. Not everyone can afford to buy such so once you get a hold of one, make sure that people will notice it. Putting your treasured décor in a glass cabinet with lights on it is one thing to do it. At least they know where you put your prized possessions.

Everyone loves a metal décor because there is just something in it that draws individuals closer to them. More so, you can put these in almost every part of the house because it blends easily with whatever furniture you have. Such décor is what people love to buy due to the versatility is possesses. You can even repaint the décor if you see that the current paint is starting to fade. You know you just cannot throw this away not unless you see it really rusty already and ugly even though you did a paint job for it. Making your

own décor is okay too because it lets you explore the many possibilities that you can do with the right kind of materials

If you see that you enjoy doing these things, you might want to tell your friends about it and do some of their décor. You can also turn this into a home based business. You can manage your contacts online and through your mobile phone. You can meet your clients elsewhere to talk about what kind of décor they want. It is also nice if you see that they too make extra effort in bringing some scrap materials and just want to know that this is what they want.

Whatever metal décor you will do, just try to add some personal touch. This makes the item more attractive and homey. Do your best in everything so that your clients will still go back to you for more décor. In addition, your clients might even recruit some of their friends and tell them to make you as their decorator. Homes are everywhere so décors is something you can make for a business. In addition, you can learn to correct your mistakes when you see that you have areas to improve on. Keep on experimenting and find new ways on how to do things. Surely, when you discovered something, you can use this as an edge over the other decorators because you thought about it first.

The chandelier marks your arrival in your home. Clad in exquisite glass, they meet you in the foyer of a well-appointed home, then dazzle you from a power position over the dining room table.

Today chandeliers rate as a brilliant idea just about anywhere -- from modest homes to magnificent mansions, contempo-rary digs to traditional houses. They dangle

decorously in almost every room of the house. Taller ceilings and increased volume in today’s homes means chandeliers are less likely to crowd a room.

Nine or ten-foot ceilings almost demand something hanging to fill the space. Colorful chandeliers create drama in the kitchen, especially when two or three are hung in a row. Ones of smaller proportion provide elegance to any powder room. Even walk-in closets go upscale when lit with a small chandelier. More commonly, kitchens and bathrooms have become the popular locations for chandeliers.

People are treating their bedroom suites as more luxurious personal spaces with elaborate bathroom areas, so it is not unreasonable to consider chandeliers there either.

Mini chandeliers add a new sense of intimacy to small rooms and to corner spaces and alcoves of larger ones. Minis are even being used as wall sconces in some instances -- and they look fantastic. These compact chandeliers are 9 to 12 inches in diameter to slip easily into tight spaces. For added impact, consider grouping them. You can hang two small ones over a kitchen counter and the result is gorgeous.

Chandeliers have also sized up to accommodate the soaring foyers and sweeping two-story spaces of larger homes. With the increase of 20-foot ceilings being used in homes today, the demand for massive chandeliers is also on the rise.

Mixing of materials and styles within one fixture is now a common design trend. It is not unusual, for example, to find a rustic cast-iron fixture with crystals

hanging from it, or different metals and types of glass all incorporated into one fixture. Styles are decidedly eclectic and homeowners today are very comfortable mixing styles. Chandeliers lend themselves neatly to that process. You can look for a chandelier that is inspired by the period reflected in the room you are putting it, but you don’t have to. Many contemporary designs are a blend of traditional elements with modern materials -- glass and alabaster with polished chrome or satin nickel, which makes them work with a variety of styles.

While sparkling clear crystal refracts and reflects light, designers offer chandeliers in a rainbow of shades to complement decor. Colored crystal can combine with clear to create a prism of hue. Smokey quartz, rock crystal and amethyst offer an antique feel.

Chandeliers no longer feature just one metal or just one finish. The latest looks offer multi-tone finishes created by painted or chemical processes. The freshest face in chandeliers is clean and simple, designed to work in more contemporary spaces. Some styles feature colored crystal geometric shapes -- cubes, rectangles, spirals, pyramids. The colors mix together to create auras of light for a vibrant rich look.

Whether they are ornate and multi-armed or simply feature a large-scale bowl, chandeliers need a dimmer so homeowners can control the intensity of light. Most of the time, the lighting capability of a chandelier is more than is actually necessary to light the space. They should always be controlled by a dimmer switch to add to the aesthetic appeal.

Once a design preference has been identified, the chandelier should simply be another decorative element. There is a trend to eclectic interiors where traditional, transitional and modern will blur even within the same room. The chandelier doesn’t need to “match” the decor in a very rigid manner. If it works visually for the user, then it’s fine. Lighting is a great way to express your very own style!

Blinds make a useful and practical quick fit door to cover shelving. This can look particularly effective when used in recessed alcoves beside a chimney breast in a bedroom or dining room.

Roller blinds would be most suitable, simply pull them up when to reveal the shelving and drop them down to instantly hide any clutter. The same principle can be used to provide stylish wardrobe style doors. With the wide range of colours and patterns a roller blind can be found to suit all interior colour decors.

With the introduction of digital photography being used on roller blinds it is possible to have a forest scene, large flower blooms or have a portrait of yourself, family, children or pet digitally portrayed onto a blind.

Bed curtains have been used for centuries. Originally used to enclose the bed to keep out draughts to keep the occupants warm and snug during the winter and offer privacy when many people shared the same bed-room. Heavy brocade fabrics were hung around and over the top of the bed, supported by heavily carved oak posts situated at the four corners of the bed.

The more wealthy had ornate curtains hung from the ceiling in domed and pinnacle style shapes, similar to the style of a mosquito net. Historic castles and stately homes are a great place to visit to get inspiration as to the various design styles, colours and patterns of fabrics which were used throughout history to adorn beds.

In warmer countries light weight voiles and silk curtains are used to offer privacy and keep out biting insects. Lengths of beautiful fabrics hung Bedouin style can offer a great place for peace and relaxation and inject a riot of colour into a room, as well as being an effective way to stop biting

insects feasting on your skin while you sleep!

Curtains can also e used in the same way as blinds to provide an informal door to a hanging space for clothes or across the front of cupboards to conceal everyday objects.

Country style kitchens look stunning with pretty floral printed fabrics or traditional gingham hung across the front of the base cupboards. A mix of plain, checks and stripes within the kitchen offers a warm and homely appearance.

Floor to ceiling curtains also make effect room dividers. They can effectively make specific areas more private and although they do not offer any noise reduction they can provide visual privacy.

The classic look is always the safe choice when it comes to interior home decoration. But if you are looking for something exciting to spruce up your haven and make life a little more on the edge, you should probably think about going for a modern or contemporary style in home decoration.

Here are potent guidelines on modern home decoration to ensure that you are on the right track when designing and decorating your abode.

Get Ideas and TipsIt is great if you can read interior decoration magazines and books so that you will get ideas on how you would want your home to look like. Of course, at the end, it would be better to add personal touches to the design of the home and not make an exact copy of the photography you saw in the magazine. It is also a good idea to ask advice and suggestions from a veteran interior designer or decorator.

Fix the ClutterBefore you can visualize your home effectively, you need to get rid of all of the distracting elements and retain only those that can be of great use for your home. Remember that modern style leans to minimalism, which means less is more.

For the things that you still need but hardly use anymore, organize and store them neatly in a storage room out of people’s sight. For the things that you do not need at all, consider giving them out as donations or selling them in garage sales. The money you get from it, you can to add to your home decorating budget.

Make a PlanPlan how you would want each room in the house to look like. The kitchen, bed-room, bathroom, patio, dining room, and the living area should all have a flowing parallel design but at the same time distinct personalities.

Now, determine the things that you need for each room to accomplish the look

you want for them. It is important to remember that sometimes you do not need to buy new sets of furniture but just improve on what you already have.

Sometimes, simply reshuffling old furniture to have a larger space and minimal design can achieve the modern look you desire. Or sometimes you can simply need to add a modern wall art to get the contemporary style you want. After this, you have to make a floor plan on how the pieces of furniture in the room are going to be arranged.

More Tips• Go for Monochromatic Color SchemeChoosing shades that belong to the same color family make the room look bigger and brighter, which is the objective of modern style.

• Don’t Forget ComfortComfort should not be sacrificed for style. It is important to achieve a balance between the two.

• Incorporate Metal, Stone, and Glass in the DesignThese materials are commonly used for contemporary designs so make sure that you incorporate them when decorating your home.

• Avoid too Many Colorful and Fussy PrintsPlain spaces are ideal for contemporary styled homes but it is all right to have heavily printed accents on plain furniture. For example, a zebra printed pillow will look good against a black leather chair.

It is true that sleek and minimal are some of the key ingredients for a modern styled home. But this does not mean that it cannot be exciting and edgy. In fact, most modern styled homes are known for the contrasting colors of black and red, and the lasting visual impact of metal furniture, modern wall art, metal wall sculptures, and modern accessories.

Getting the right blend of style and colour for the décor in your living room, bedroom or bathroom is something that we might all find difficult. Perhaps the bewildering array of information and advice out makes you throw up your hands in the air and say “I give up!!”. While lifestyle television shows and magazines make everything look so easy we’ve all fallen foul of an ill-judged redecorating project.

But don’t despair – changing the look of a room doesn’t have to mean stripping wallpaper and repainting. And if (whisper it) buying a whole new furniture set is outside your budget you can still create a dramatic change through details in your room. I always look at rugs as an effective way to make such a change.

An easier and cheaper option than installing other types of flooring rugs are a great, instant way to add a splash of style and colour boost to a room.

Choose a rug that matches the colour and tone of your walls and furnishings and it will help to tie the room together. Often, expanses of bare wall and floors make a room look sparse and chilly. If your room is like this, a rug with a stylish pattern that draws on the colours from around the room can provide a visual focal point.

By contrast, in rooms that are decorated with bold patterns or are filled with ornaments, photographs or pictures a rug can help make the room seem more spacious. A plain rug in colours that compliment the otherall aesthetic of your room creates a feeling of space on the floor which can help ‘open up; the room and relieve the sense of clutter.

If you are are keen to express yourself through your décor, then rugs are also available in a calvalcade of quirky and fun stylings to reflect your personality. Bold geometric patterns in contrasting colours – even wild combinations such as green and orange – bring a sense of lightheartedness and experimentation.

Often modern homes – most especially rented apartments or flats which may have a proscribed colour scheme as part of your tenancy agreement – are decorated in a very neutral style, dominated by magnolia and off-white shades. This minimalist look, whilst

easy on the eye, can be bland. With so many homes decorated according to the diktats of this style it is easy to lose your identity. A colourful or individual rug offers you a chance to stamp something of your own personality on such a property and declare: “this is where I live.”

If the range of colours open to you is restricted by a limited palette due to your overall décor if the ‘zany colours’ look just isn’t for you, you might want to consider the potential uses of texture and pattern when it comes to choosing a rug. Rugs are in a huge range of materials – from deep, shaggy sheepskin to the flatter styles of traditionally woven oriental rugs. Patterns vary from geometric styles that have been favoured since the 60s and 70s, to more traditional floral or decorative patterns of hand-woven rugs.

Choosing a great rug can be a brilliant means of bringing colour and personality to your living space. There’s a practically infinite number of colours, styles, textures and patterns to choose from. Make a wise choice, and you will be able to find something that lets you stamp your personality on your house and create a living space that you’re happy just to hang around in. Happy shopping!

Children’s parties are incomplete without a cake, and especially if it is a birthday party, the cutting of the cake is the main attraction. The birthday cake is well decorated with icing ,flowers ,leaves - all of edible sweet stuff and are sometimes made in the shape of an animal, or an aeroplane or train, depending on what the child wants. Then ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ...’ with the name of the child or adult is also written beautifully. When the members of the party are ready for cake cutting small decorative candles are planted on it and they are lighted. With one blow the birthday girl or boy has to blow them out and then the happy birthday song is sung. They usually like to let one candle burn on the cake which signifies the coming year and its brightness for the person whose birthday it was.

Indeed, cakes are a delicacy the world over. They are sumptuous, loved by children and adults alike. They are the ideal thing if you desire to have something sweet, or for a tea time snack. Even in India they are a great favourite. There are many types of cakes. Amongst christian countries the Christmas cake is a very special one. Some rum is used in this and it lasts for a very very long time. So this can be enjoyed by many people over a period of time. Then the next favored ones are the birthday cakes, as mentioned previously. The main ingredients of a cake are flour, eggs, butter and sugar. The eggs are weighed and the rest of the things are taken of similar weight in the traditional recipies.

These days however a variety of styles are made and even sponge cakes are made which have nil or very little butter and are much lighter. They can be the base for puddings like trifle. They also have to put the right amount of baking powder and some essence (optional). In the making of the cake the most important part is the folding of the flour in the batter, and then the baking on the right temperature .The lightness and the fluffyness of the cake mainly depends on these two factors. The cake rises well if everything is done properly and is a delight both to see and eat.

However, they are to be avoided by people who have diabetes or are obese. In case you have these problems, the name itself will not be pleasant for you. The reason is that if you eat it it will not be good for you and resisting it will not be easy either. They are rich in content with butter and eggs and therefore in old times were considered to be the delight of only the rich people. So go ahead equipped with this information, try your hand on the cakes and have a good party. I am not giv-ing any recipies because there are plenty available and what type you want has to be yours and the family’s choice.About the Author: Written by Jack Dobson Article source: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=294128&ca=Food+and+Drinks

The Chicago-style “deep-dish” pizza that many people love was invented at Pizzeria Uno, in Chicago, in 1943, reportedly by Uno’s founder Ike Sewell, a former University of Texas football star. However, a 1956 article from the Chicago Daily News asserts that Uno’s original pizza chef Rudy Malnati developed the famous recipe.

The pizza’s foundation is simple. It uses a thick layer of dough (made with olive oil and cornmeal) that is formed to a deep round pan and pulled up the sides. The pizza crust is then parbaked before the toppings are added to give it greater spring.

Parbaking is a cooking technique in which a bread or dough product is partially baked and then rapidly frozen or cooled. The raw dough is baked as if normal, but halted at about 80% of the normal cooking time, when it is rapidly cooled and frozen. The partial cooking kills the yeast in the bread mixture, and sets the internal structure of the proteins and starches (the spongy texture of the bread), so that it is now essentially cooked inside, but not so far as to have generated “crust” or other externally desirable qualities that are difficult to preserve once fully cooked.

The crust is then covered with cheese (generally sliced mozzarella) and covered with meats and/or vegetables such as Italian sausage, onions, and bell peppers. A sauce consisting of crushed or pureed tomatoes is then added. Usually this is topped with a grated cheese blend to add additional flavor. On the usual pizza, about a pound of cheese is added. Because of the amount of ingredients in this style of pizza, it is usually eaten with a knife and fork. It’s quite messy to eat with your fingers.

In addition to Uno, additional famous deep-dish restaurants include Uno’s companion restaurant Due, which was opened just down the block by Sewell in 1955. However, a year before, in 1954, The Original Gino’s Pizza, located on Rush Street, opened its doors, and 12 years later in 1966, Gino’s East opened. Other deep dish restaurants include Edwardo’s, Connie’s, Giordano’s, Carmen’s, Pizano’s (which is owned by Rudy Malnati’s son, Rudy Jr.), and Lou Malnati’s (which was begun by another of Rudy Malnati’s sons and is now run by his grandsons and has 26 Chicago area locations).

Chicago deep-dish pizza is famous throughout the world. Accordingly, many Chicago deep-dish pizza restaurants will ship their pizzas, partially baked, within the continental U.S.

In the mid-1970s, two Chicago chains, Nancy’s, founded by Rocco Palese, and Giordano’s began experimenting with deep dish pizza and created the stuffed pizza. Palese based his creation on his mother’s recipe for scarciedda, an Italian Easter pie from his hometown of Potenza. A Chicago Magazine article featuring Giordano’s stuffed

pizza popularized the dish. Other pizzerias that make stuffed pizzas include Bacino’s, Edwardo’s and Carmen’s. Most also make thin crust pizzas.

Stuffed pizzas are often even taller than deep-dish pizzas, but otherwise, it can be hard to see the difference until you cut into it. A stuffed pizza generally has much higher topping density than any other type of pizza. As with deep-dish pizza, a thin layer of dough forms a bowl in a high-sided pan and the toppings and cheese are added. Then, an additional layer of dough goes on top and is pressed to the sides of the bottom crust.

At this stage of the process, the thin dough top has a rounded, domed appearance. Pizza makers often puncture a small hole in the top of the “pizza lid” to allow air and steam to escape while cooking. This allows the pizza sauce to permeate through the pie. Pizza sauce is added to the top crust layer and the pizza is then baked.

Chicago pan pizza in Chicago is similar to the traditional deep-dish style pizza served in other areas of the country, and baked in a similar deep-sided pan, but its crust is quite thick -- a cross between the buttery crisp crust and focaccia. Toppings and cheese frequently go on the top of a pan pizza, rather than under the sauce as is traditionally the case with deep-dish and stuffed pizza. The placement of the cheese and toppings on top make the pan pizza variety similar to a thin-crust pizza with a thicker and larger crust.

In addition to Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, there is also a thin-crust pizza unique to Chicago, sometimes referred to as “flat pizza”. The crust is thin and firm, usually with a crunchy texture, unlike a New York-style pizza, yet thick enough to be soft and doughy on the top.

The crust is topped with a liberal quantity of Italian style tomato sauce. This type of sauce is usually seasoned with herbs or and highly spiced. Typically there are no visible chunks of tomato in the crust. A layer of toppings is added, and finally a layer of mozzarella cheese.

Chicago style pizza has a rich and famous heritage and admirers from all over the world. If you’re a pizza lover and you’ve never tried this type of pizza, be sure to give it a try, I’m absolutely convinced that you will love it!

Often the best days for a wedding are warm, hot even, and while this might be good for the bride and groom, it can wreak havoc on delicate flowers. Choosing a wedding flower that will stand up to the heat and look great throughout the ceremony and even long afterwards can be hard. You want something that is beautiful and fit for a bride, but still sturdy enough to hang in there, even in high temperatures.

What to Look ForA good wedding flower is delicate looking, but not actually that fragile. It will withstand the summer heat and look terrific doing it. You have enough worries and stresses on your wedding day, flowers should definitely not be one of them, so select hardy flowers from the very beginning and you’ll be able to focus on more important things, like actually getting married.

Here are some of the characteristics to look for in a heat-resistant wedding flower.

- Thick, waxy petals are best. They tend to be stiffer and hold the moisture in longer than thinner petals which tend to shrivel and wilt in the heat. The thicker the petal, the stiffer it will be, making it more resistant to wilting.

- Stiff leaves help with heat resistance, too. Leaves contain a lot of moisture that can be wicked up to the bloom and the greenery helps enhance the color of the wedding flowers. Wilted leaves make the entire bouquet look sickly, so thicker, waxier leaves are the best option.

- Sturdy stems keep flowers upright. While the florist can place flower stems in plastic straws to help keep them upright when the heat threatens to send them drooping downwards, but it’s best to choose the right flowers with sturdy, thick stems that are strong enough to stand up even when slightly dried out.

- Full blooms stay fresh longer. Flowers that aren’t just a few petals will last longer. Look for ruffled petals or multiple rounds, such as with a mum or carna-tion. These flowers do very well with holding in the moisture needed to survive a hot day, even when not placed in a vase of water.

If you have the budget, tropical flowers tend to be far better than our native blooms when it comes to withstand-ing the hot interior of a church or reception hall. They are grown in heat, so you’ll find that they are quite hardy when it comes to summer weddings. Most tropical flowers are very elegant, as well, so they make for very lovely bouquets and centerpieces.

Flowers like orchids, lilies and dahlias are all great ones for a wedding flower. They hold up to the heat very well and can take long drought periods, thanks to their hardy leaves and petals that retain moisture even in stifling conditions.

Your florist will also be able to recommend a more heat resistant wedding flower or two. The ideal would be a flower that you love the look of, which combines beauty with functionality. For a summer wedding, how well the flow-ers will stand up to the heat is a very important consideration. There is nothing more stressful on your wedding day than discovering that all your blooms are wilting away in the intense heat.

Choose your wedding flower carefully. You don’t want bouquets that look awful by the time you are ready to walk down the aisle. Tropical flowers, those with waxy, thick petals and leaves and any flower that is bushy and full of petals tend to be alright and will look great throughout the entire day.

Online shopping has become the norm for many of us who seek rare products, great deals and the ultimate in convenience. But there is a growing issue that keeps cautious shoppers from filling their virtual shopping carts - fraud. Despite all the efforts to secure online shopping, fraud rates continue to rise. To understand why, here is a non technical overview of how online transactions are processed.

Every time you purchase something online there are a few steps that happen almost instantly behind the scenes. After you manually enter your credit card information into the appropriate boxes on a website, the packets of information travel through

your computer and eventually reach a part of your computer called the cryptographic processor. This is what scrambles or ‘encrypts’ your information so hackers can’t steal it. Once the information is encrypted it is sent securely over the internet to a secure website where they de-crypt it and charge the purchase to your card. It is extremely difficult for hackers to steal your sensitive information while it is in transit over the internet or on the seller’s website because it is scrambled. However, from the time you type your numbers in, to the time the information reaches the cryptographic processor your information is not encrypted and is, therefore, vulnerable. While online stores spend millions every year to make sure their sites are secure, they are incapable of securing everyone’s personal computer and hackers are taking advantage of this weakness.

In fact, stealing personal information off someone’s computer can be quite simple. Hackers have a whole arsenal of weapons at their disposal including Spyware, Malware, Scareware,

keystroke loggers, man-in-the-middle attacks, and phishing attacks, to name a few. Often times the sole purpose of these tools is to steal sensitive personal information. These programs run behind the scenes spying on your computer and tracking your keystrokes. In many cases these programs are on a computer and running undetected. To scare you even more, victims are chosen randomly and it can happen to literally anyone with a computer. While anti-virus programs and firewalls block many of these programs, they are ineffective against newly developed attacks until the program becomes well known and defenses are built to block their invasion.

So what can consumers do to protect themselves? Keeping an anti-virus program updated and making sure you trust the website you are shopping at is a good start, but still not foolproof. There is still a hole in

your computer that criminals can exploit. One way to close this hole is a locally developed tool called the SmartSwipe. The SmartSwipe is a credit card reader for your home computer. The device plugs into your computer’s USB port and scrambles the card information before it reaches your computer so there is no point at which the information is unprotected. Plus, you get to swipe your card through the SmartSwipe device instead of having to type it in, making online purchasing even quicker and easier.

I don’t want to scare you - online shopping is great way to shop, period. However, it is important to be aware of the potential risks and how to avoid them. For more information on the risks of online shopping and how to keep safe, visit www.smartswipe.ca

Your yard has a lot of potential, but it can’t live up to it without the right landscaping plants. There are so many choices to choose from, and if you don’t know a lot about plants or landscaping, it’s often d ifficult to choose the perfect landscaping plants for your yard. There is a lot of great advice available on the internet and in landscaping books to help you narrow down some tough decisions and really make the most of landscaping plants to add a bit of magic to your yard.

The Right Landscaping Plants

There are many factors to considering when choosing the right landscaping plants. Where you are geographically has a huge impact on which plants will thrive in your yard. You may love Birds of Paradise, but that plant probably won’t grow well in your Canadian yard. Taking the time to research which plants will really thrive in your particular yard will save a lot of time and trouble.

Even if you live in a warm climate, tropical flowers may not be able to survive if you happen to have a harsh winter. Tropic flowers tend to thrive in year-round temperate climates. You can better monitor the temperatures of your tropical flowers if they are kept inside, in which case they can’t be considered

as a staple of your landscaping plants.

Hardy flowering plants such as the Impatiens of Chrysanthemums are excellent choices if you live in a climate with very distinct seasons. Your local garden center is a great place to find out about all the different flowering plants that work well in your corner of the world. They can also fill you in on the basis of plant care including watering.

Another thing to keep in mind when researching the right landscaping plants is what functions you want your plants to provide. You made only have an aesthetic appeal in mind, but plants can serve other purposes as well. There are also many aspects to what you prefer aesthetically. Do you want a lot of flowering plants and colors, or would you prefer some elegant green foliage? Taking the time to consider the aesthetics qualities of the right plants and how different landscaping plants may or may not work together harmoniously is essential if you seek a beautiful yard.

Landscaping plants are indeed often more than just a pretty face. They can provide much needed privacy. The ivy vine is a great plant to consider if privacy is your goal because it can easily conceal the spaces in a fence. Ivy is also an attractive plant, so it can serve dual functions in your yard, providing both beauty and privacy. If you decide to use ivy as one of your landscaping plants, remember to keep it in check because it may grow too fast and overtake everything in your yard. It may grow to reach walls that you didn’t actually want it to touch. Just remember to keep a careful eye on the ivy vine, and the two of you can have a very symbiotic relationship.

Dear Reena,Last year you gave out an all natural mosquito repellent formula. I believe it had Listerine and perhaps soap in it. Do you mind listing the recipe one more time? I love what you do, thanks for sharing! Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,DEET is the most aggressive remedy in deterring mosquitoes but not everyone chooses to use such strong chemicals on their porous skin. You can make your own mosquito repellent by combining the following into a spray bottle: 4 quarts (4 L) water, 4 tbsp. (60 mL) lemon dish soap, 2 tbsp. (30 mL) original Listerine. Spray liberally (safe for small children). For the yard; instead of spraying poisons, burn citronella candles to repel the little critters. Put birdseed in the garden. Spray the yard with garlic and water. Build a purple martin house. For humans; use Caress soap, avoid wearing perfume. Wear light-coloured clothing; eat an orange before going outside (mosquitoes do not like the smell of citrus). Rub lemon soap or real Mexican or soybean oil or Skin-So-Soft by Avon on exposed skin. For pets; dip a rope in eucalyptus oil, wrap in a bandana and tie around your pet’s neck. Mosquitoes do not like the smell of rosemary, marigolds and geraniums. (Taken from Household Solutions 1 with Substitutions)

Dear Reena,I have a set of cooking bowls with plastic lids for storing. Over the years these lids have developed an odour. I have tried soaking them in hot water and baking soda to no avail. It was suggested that I place them in a zip-lock bag with ground coffee. I am afraid to try this method as I believe it will only make the odour worse. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have to try to fix this problem. With Thanks, Gloria

Hi Gloria,Here are two options for you: Wipe the inside of the lids with a liberal amount of non-gel, non-bleach toothpaste. Leave the lids in the sun for a day and wash. Or wipe the lids with a liberal amount of mustard and leave in the sun for a day. Wash as usual.

Dear Reena,I read your column in the paper weekly, I always learn something new. I amwondering if you can help me get rid of a very strong musty smell. I put my wedding dress in a plastic bag and it has been sitting for 45 years, along with my gold Mylar shoes and my dried wedding bouquet. I have tried putting an air freshener in the bag which has not helped at all. I threw the old bag away and now store everything in a new bag, it hasn’t helped. I’m afraid to wash or dry clean the dress for fear that it may fall apart, because of its age. I hope to hear from you, Cathy

Hi Cathy,You are smart to be cautious, I have heard so many wedding dress nightmares! In myopinion your best bet is to take the dress to a dry cleaner that specializes in cleaningwedding dresses. Washing the dress is VERY risky! As for the shoes, it sounds like they need to be aired out. You can rub smelly areas of the shoes with a stick of deodorant and then fill the shoes with newspaper and leave them outside for a few days. The silk flowers are delicate and may not be able to handle water, if this is the case pour a generous amount of baking soda all over the flowers and gently shake them inside of a plastic bag. Remove them from the bag and leave them outside for a day. If the flowers can handle a more serious cleaning method, fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of water

and white vinegar. Position newspaper around the base to absorb drips and spray, then spritz away. Test a small area first for colourfastness. Remember, some elements may be glued together, like the undersides of leaves; we don’t want them coming apart. If there are stubborn areas of grime, you may rub them very lightly. When the flowers are clean, blot dry as best you can on a soft cloth, do not rub. The most aggressive technique is to fill a sink or a receptacle with cool water (hot water may melt any glue that was used on wired petals or plastic leaf supports). Add a squirt of dishwashing detergent and mix. Take your stems out one at a time and swish gently in the water. This technique is NOT recommended for hand-wrapped or hand-painted artificial flowers.

Dear Reena,Hope you can help with my problem. For some years now I have had a problem with towels and especially facecloths having a strong odour when they have been used for a couple of days. Two years ago I decided it must be the old washing machine, so I purchased a front loading machine. Still the same problem. I went back to the store and asked them for a solution and they suggested a very hot wash with a cup of dish soap or vinegar with an empty machine. Still the problem. They then sold me a product called ‘Washer Fresh’ but that did not help. Some cotton clothes also have a musty smell after being in the drawer for a few days. Years ago when I had a very basic machine and did wash for a family of four, I did not have this problem.Thank-you for any input, Betty

Hi Betty,You may be surprised to hear that the odour is likely not caused by the machine but instead by the dye used in the manufacture of clothes, towels and face clothes. A reader once sent me the following letter: “I have been tracking this for awhile and have found that the fabrics that are imported, especially the darker ones, develop an odour problem. I then bought better quality textiles, made in North America, and the problem did not appear. I have washed and dried both sets of towels and face cloths in the same load to make it a fair test. I now have a collection of imported floor/dust rags cloths. Needless to say, I am on a crusade to buy Canadian or at least North American made items.”Another suggestion is to keep the lid open when the machine is not in use so that moisture can escape. You may want to run 1-cup of vinegar through the machine once a month to kill odours. This does not need to be done on an empty load (that would just be a waste of water). Add vinegar to a full load and you will create an instant fabric softener and your clothes will not smell like vinegar after they are dry. Also, stop (if you are) using liquid fabric softeners, these tend to build-up in the machine and produce a mouldy smell. An-other favourite product for getting rid of the smell of musty machines is washing soda (or borax); you can find it in the laundry department of grocery stores. It is called, “So Clean” by Arm and Hammer. This product is amazing at whitening and brightening fabrics as a matter of fact, I like to add one-quarter cup to each load of laundry when I wash whites (it contains no bleaches or phosphates). Both borax and washing soda are great for zapping odours.

NASCAR history started with the stock car racing gaining popularity as early as 1936, with the first unofficial & informal race held in 1938. This was then promoted by Bill France Sr. after being asked to do so by the car racers who usually hang out on his service station.

France together with other big names in stock car racing at that time then held a meeting at Streamline Hotel where they contributed ideas on their plans for NASCAR. They were then able to come up with guidelines, which include the schedule of the race, the rules that govern the race, and the prize money involved. A board of governors was formed with Bill France Sr. as the President. A fellow named Red Boyt was the man who coined the name NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) a critical point in NASCAR history.

The very first official NASCAR race was held on February 15, 1948 at Daytona Beach. Red Byron was declared winner of that race. One week later after the event, NASCAR was then incorporated making this major milestone in NASCAR history.

The main thrust then of NASCAR was that it should appeal to the average person, and thus the racers made use of only stock equipment, or cars which were not modified in any way.

The first purely stock event was held in June 1949 in Charlotte, N.C. The rules then required that the racecars should all be American made, and if ever modifications were to be done on the racecars, it was only the metal plate that protected the right front tire that was allowed. There were 33 drivers competing

with almost every type of American made car represented in that race.

For this event, over 13,000 people came and watched the race. Their target to make it appealing to the average person succeeded. Glen Dunaway walked out a winner of that race, not until it was found out that a modification was made on his racecars rear springs. He was disqualified and Jims Roper was declared the true winner.

The race then evolved to what was then called the Grand National Division, or what is known now as the Winston Cup. On this first year, Red Byron was the overall champion with 9 more races held that year. On the second year, a total of 21 races were scheduled.

NASCAR history had many other milestones along the way. And this we owe mainly to Mr. Bill France Sr. NASCAR racing would not been possible without his guidance and efforts. NASCAR history is indeed very colorful, and a brighter future continues to lie ahead.

The classic muscle autos that ruled the era of sixties and seventies are back. Car manufacturers have begun making modern muscle autos and are bringing them in market with a new futuristic image. Although, most people are not huge fan of such muscle cars, they are actually for individuals who love thrill, fun and adventure.

The significant thing about such muscle cars is that they might not be attractive, but they are robust and tough. The outer bonnets of the cars were tough and clumsy, but despite this, muscle autos, of the 60’s and 70’s were classy. However, they had some aerodynamic related problems within them. These problems can be attributed to the fact that in those days, car technology was not progressed so much.

In addition, upgrading the transmission system in muscle cars was not possible in yesteryear. People had to find parts of autos, accessories, and shift adaptors to make the upgrade.

Later, modern sleek cars restored these muscle cars. With the improvement in automobile technology, modern day cars became smoother, have utmost horsepower, optimum fuel efficiency and they run well on tracks and on terrain. As, a result new breed of cars look same. They are compact in size, with higher acceleration power and accommodate few people.

Thus, car manufacturers have increased the size of autos and kept the mechanism same and bought the modern day muscular autos in market.

Features Of Modern Day Muscle Autos:

Earlier, if people were to buy muscle autos, they had few options regarding the same. However, now you have different options, because there are several automobile manufacturers in present days. Modern day autos, launched by big automobile manufacturers have mainly upgraded the transmission range of vehicles.

The system incorporates five to six manual transmission systems and has five to six automatic overdrive transmission systems too. These features are present in almost every modern muscular auto, thereby offering greater efficiency to car enthusiast.

These muscular autos are fuel-efficient and give maximum mileage by consuming less amount of fuel. It includes power steering system and an intellectual GPS system. The stress free air extension technology allows you to drive the auto on rough roads with ease.

You can also buy these cars in customized form. The internal system of these autos will remain same as that of the original muscular cars, but automobile design engineers will create a superior and unique exterior for the car, as per your requirement.

Electric Muscle Cars:

If you are concerned about rising gasoline costs, opt for muscular cars that run on electricity. Many big manufacturers have started manufacturing electric autos and very sooner people will start using such autos on road. All you need to do is just charge the battery of such an electricity car for fixed hours before driving.

However, many people are not in favor of electric cars, because of high consumption of electricity. There are also some other technical difficulties in these automobiles. Once, manufacturers overcome these problems, there might be some downfall in the fuel prices.

(NC)—Fall and winter will be here again soon and it’s time to think about how to protect your automobile from the deterioration caused by cold weather, snow and road salt. One way is to take your vehicle for a rust control treatment. Frequently referred to as rustproofing, it’s a process of spraying a rust-inhibiting chemical on the underside and inside of your vehicle’s body, as well as any other rust-prone areas. Rust control makes your car last longer and will save you money. A saving, not a costWith today’s higher prices for everything from auto insurance to gasoline, most of us are watching our spending. We may not be able to buy a new car every three or four years, which is where rust control can help. Having your vehicle sprayed annually may well double its lifespan, saving you thousands of dollars. Here’s how:

• Your car will last longer, delaying the need to buy a new one.

• If your vehicle is paid for and you keep it for 10 years, you can avoid years of car payments – a potential saving of from $20- to $40-thousand or more.

• Maintenance costs are lower and your car looks better.

• Resale value increases.

“If you buy a vehicle and plan to keep it for more than four years, consider taking it to a reliable rust control business to be sprayed every year,” suggests Freeman Young, president of Krown Rust Control Systems. “And check to make sure that the process is environmentally safe and the technicians are properly trained.”

After purchasing a house, a vehicle is probably the biggest item most people ever buy. So it makes good financial sense to prevent rust from causing premature deterioration.

An annual rust control treatment for an average car costs about $110 before tax and does not void your manufacturer’s warranty.

More information on the benefits of rust control can be found at www.krown.com.

You’ve needed a storage shed for quite some time and you have a long weekend coming up. This long weekend is going to present you with the best opportunity to embark on your shed project and clear some of the clutter in your life. As a matter of fact, it can make a great project for the entire family, bringing everyone together in clearing out their lives. But it is important to outline the steps of putting up a prefab metal storage shed with the family before beginning.

SO WHAT ARE THE STEPS?

- Make sure you have everything that you need. This includes such tools as levels, measuring tape, all of the materials included with the kit, and goggles to protect your eyes.

- Check to see if your community requires a permit to erect prefab buildings. If it does, then make sure the proper permit is acquired. Many states and communi-ties require that a permit be acquired when the storage is more than 120 square feet. The local zoning and building inspector will have this necessary information and will be able to instruct you on how to acquire a permit.

- Make sure your shed is on level ground and that it is in a place that you can easily access. Try to avoid building it over underground pipes or utility lines. If something ever happened that the lines would need to be repaired, your storage shed could present a problem.

- After determining where the storage shed can go, see how much room that gives you. This will determine the size of prefab shed and how much you can store. If you need work space, how much you store may have to be changed.

- Since the building is a metal storage shed, it isn’t hard to build from the ground up. You want to install any flooring first, if it is required, and use foundation blocks

or stakes to secure it to the ground. You then want to place your prefab metal storage shed over that flooring. After that, install any doors that you may need to install.

This is actually a job that you can do yourself and you can do it before the weekend is even over. If you get the family involved, you may be able to do it faster, but your entire family can stake their claim on a job well done. It is great to be able to involve the family in such projects.

However, even if you do it alone, you are still able to have time for your family after a job well done. Erecting a prefab metal storage shed is not hard at all. Everything that is needed to erect the shed is there and even those with limited carpentry skills can put up a sturdy metal building that will last for a very long time. This makes it both a time-efficient and very cost effective solution to being able to store those items that tend to get in the way. You don’t have to pay someone to do it for you, you don’t have to buy expensive equipment or tools, and you don’t have to wait weeks or months for your building. You can have your building up and stocked before the weekend is ever over. You and your family can then sit back and be proud of a job well done and a life that has a little less clutter in it. That in itself makes the entire task one that is very worth it and to think that the shed will be serving your needs for years to come is also satisfying.

The engine hours will help determine a fair price for the used tractor that you are looking at as the more hours that it has the cheaper it generally is.

AGE - the age of the tractor will also determine the price of the tractor to some extent. Obviously if two tractors are the same age you would refer back to the other areas to determine what was the best deal.

HISTORY - It’s always good to know the history of the used tractor and used Excavator and the type of work that it was involved in in its previous life. This will help you to determine if it will be a reliable machine in the future.

MAKE AND MODEL - Some makes and models attract

buyers more than others. Some makes attract a premium because of their reputation for quality and reliability while others may have certain characteristics that may not be desirable for the job that you are doing. Always check with your used tractor consultant to check if there is anything about the model that you are looking at that may not be good for your application.

CABIN - Because your tractor is your office you need to make sure that you are comfortable working within the cabin. Does it give you the level of comfort that you are used to or need? Is there easy access to all the controls, does it have air conditioning, and any other features that you require?

4WD - 2WD - Do you need a 4WD tractor? Is your new used tractor to be used for an application that is in a location that necessitates 4WD or will a 2WD tractor be sufficient. If you don’t need a 4WD tractor then its pointless to pay the extra cost so make sure you are clear what the tractor might be doing in the future so that you know which option to choose.

You should take all these factors into consideration but make sure that you ask our specialist Used Tractor con-sultants for their feedback on your application and needs. They are experienced at matching quality used tractors with new owners. Contact us now about your needs or view our catalogue of tractors online. SOLID CAMPERS From a SOLID COMPANY

Page 66: Aug 27, 2009 - Compass Magazine

Issue #34- August 27/09Page 64

Wow, it is nearly holiday time again and the whole family is starting to get a little restless. What we need is to get away for a while and see some of our magnificent country. As we are owners of an RV we can do exactly that without it being too expensive. We as a family love to head off around the country and stay in campground recreational vehicle parks. We also like to just stop off somewhere remote and camp as well but mostly we like the atmosphere of a park.

These campground recreational vehicle parks have so much to offer. For a start you feel more secure than when camping out on your own, you have the use of their facilities, some of them are even like mini resorts. We get to meet so many different types of people which are always interesting, and the kids get to play with other children.

It is such a wonder experience to travel by road as you get to see so many things that you would not ordinarily see. Some people think that this type of holiday is not relaxing enough but I would disagree whole-heartedly. How can you not say that finding a beautiful private lagoon or a hidden valley is not relaxing? Sitting down with your family all alone seeing countryside that

is basically untouched is to me very relaxing.

Ok, so you do have to drive a fair bit of the time but the scenery that you see makes up for it all and then of course you arrive at one of the many campground recreational vehicle parks and what else do you do but relax. In fact you don’t have to go to lots of these parks in one vacation. Lots of people have their favorite ones and go there and spend their whole vaca-tion in the one place just relaxing.

To travel like this does not mean that you have to own your own RV or camper like we do because you can rent one if you like. In fact it is a good idea to do just this first if you are thinking of buying one. Then you can see if you really like this type of holiday traveling around the countryside.

I know lots of people who like to travel with friends or family in a sort of convoy. This way they have company while traveling. They all end up at the same park and continue on with their vacation as a group. Of course there are others who prefer absolute privacy and stick to themselves. This is really a very personal thing. But the good news is that this type of vacation suits everyone.

It’s funny how when you travel like this you become very relaxed and sometimes forget to be cautious. Just because you are on holiday does not mean that you should forget to be safety conscious. By this I mean make sure you lock your RV or camper when not in attendance. Don’t leave valuables lying around, as you never know who is lurking around ready to pry on unsuspecting happy holiday goers.

Other than this, enjoy your time away camping whether alone or at one of the many campground recreational vehicle parks. I know my family and I will.

THE WORLD`S TOUGHEST ATV's

Golf, it’s probably one of the most difficult sports to play, and there are more people trying to peddle solutions for your problems then you can shake a stick at. If you don’t believe me flick on the golf channel for an hour and see how many commercials you see for the next greatest training aid.

Some of these training aids work, I can’t argue that how ever I’ve often wondered if we need to have this perfect swing in order to enjoy the game and shoot a half decent score.

Golf Swing RealitiesWhile we all want to critique everyones golf swing, or at least I do, the reality is all the little things we talk about in not lifting our head, turn our hips, keep your arms straight are all to ensure one thing occurs. When our golf club comes through the down swing to make impact with the ball, that club face is perfectly square so that the ball goes straight.

Now I’m not suggesting that you don’t need to pay attention to keeping your head down, feet straight and all those other finer points of the swing. How ever what I am saying is that you don’t always need the perfect swing to play a half decent round of golf. So with that being said what does it take to develop a good swing?

Facts about the SwingOkay so it’s not so much facts plural as it is a fact. While your buddies on the course will be very quick to tell you that you lifted your head or you’re not aimed correctly there is really only one key thing that must happen to make that ball go straight. You must have the face of the club square to the ball at time of impact.

Of course all those other points your buddies continually bug you about are important but they are all spin offs of that one key point we must ensure the club face is connecting with the ball square on to make sure it goes straight, and as far as possible. So if all of those points we scrutinize over about the golf swing aren’t as important as we thought what does it take to develop a good swing?

The Bare Minimum to make it go StraightThere are five points I am going to mention that I think are the “lazy” way to hit-ting the ball straight.

Knees: This might not seem all that important but when you’re addressing the ball you should have your knees slightly bent. No so much that your knees are interfering with your swing, but ever so slightly to give you perfect balance.

Back: I see a lot of golfers when I’m out on the course hunched over the ball and trying to whack away at it with no success. With your knees being slightly bent as mentioned in the previous point bind at the hips and keep your back straight. The pivot point should be your hips and you should maintain approximately the same height through your back swing, and down swing until you’ve completed your follow through.

Arms: This is another difficult one, many of us want to swing the club like a base ball bat or a hockey stick depending on the other sports we play. Golf is a game of finesse no powering through the ball. As you take your club up in the back swing try to think about keeping your front arm (left for right handed golfers) straight. This will help keep the club head on the same plane as it comes through the down swing to impact.

Head: We already touch on this, but keeping an eye on the ball is important. One point to note here is that you shouldn’t have your head turned down so much that your face is parallel to the ground. Tilt the head forwards and look down-wards at the ball, but keep your chin up enough so that your arms and shoulders can come through as you swing.

Hips: This is where you’re going to generate the power in your swing. You don’t want to lean forward during the swing, you can to tray and maintain no movement below the waist until you’re making contact with the ball. At this point you should make a twisting motion at the hips so that your trailing hip turns through the swing and once completed your belt buckle is pointing at your target.

So, these are the “finer” points we’ll say about helping to achieve a consistent golf swing. You’re not going to be swinging the club like Tiger anytime soon, but as this article has tried to get across do you really have to? As you improve your game, you’ll enjoy it more.

This weeks fishing report:

Provided by:

The Great Lakes contain about 23,000 km3 (5,500 cu.mi.) of water, covering a total area of 244,000 km2 (94,000 sq. mi.) The Great Lakes are the largest system of fresh, surface water on Earth, containing roughly 21 percent of the world supply and 84 percent of North

America's supply. Only the polar ice caps contain more fresh water.

The Great Lakes basin is home to 25 million people in the United States and 8.5 million in Canada. This means that about 10 percent of the U.S. population and 31 percent of the Canadian population live in the Great Lakes basin.

In spite of their large size, the Great Lakes are sensitive to the effects of a wide range of pollutants. The sources of pollution include the runoff of soils and farm chemicals from agricultural lands, the waste from cities, discharges from industrial areas and leachate from disposal sites. The large surface area of the lakes also makes them vulnerable to direct atmospheric pollutants that fall as rain, snow, or dust on the lake surface, or exchange as gases with the lake water.

For brook trout, the native habitat includes the territory from Labrador westward to the Saskatchewan, while the rainbow trout is a native of the Pacific slope from Alaska to California.

On the other hand, brown trout has found its way into the waters of every state in the United States except Florida, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas. It has been reported in the waters of some of these states, but according to conservation officials, no authentic reports have been received. It is also found in many parts of Canada.

In trout fishing, there are some factors that need to be considered in order to have a successful catch.

1. For trout fishing, the leader should not be greased. It will not sink far enough to cause any difficulty when picking the line and lure from the water, but if it is allowed to float; it will cast a shadow on the bottom of the stream which may scare the trout.

2. The trout is one of the fishes that are usually secured through the use of the dry fly. For trout, the current as well as the pools should be fished. It may sometimes be a bit difficult to keep the fly from sinking or dragging because of the various conditions of the current, but this is a matter that the angler will have to figure out for himself.

3. It is not good practice when fishing for trout to fish directly up-stream so the flies, line, and leader will float directly over fish. The fisherman should make the cast from one side of the stream so the fly will only float over the fish.

4. It is important to make the first cast the best. A feeding trout will usually strike the first lure presented if it is cast so that it will float over his private domain. The angler should never fail to fish the lower end of the pool first even if the trout are rising in the middle or upper end.

5. Trout are sometimes very moody or selective and will try the patience of any angler; hence, possibly a fly with less hackle will do the trick or it may be necessary to use a spent-wing fly or a fan wing.

Indeed, catching trout fishes can be lots of fun. The anglers just have to remember these tips in order to have a happy catch.

My wife and I need to exercise more. Every time we leave the house we notice vultures circling overhead in anticipation and now our washing ma-chine is doing that nasty thing where it shrinks our clothes. So, in a moment of pure inspiration and absolutely no intelligent thought whatsoever, we decide to take up mountain biking. We could remember biking as kids and there was nothing to it. We set out to purchase our bikes with the fond memory of a cool breeze gently blowing in our faces.

One of the first things we notice is that the seats are too small. Apparently they are now making the seats smaller than in our youth. The clerk smiles knowingly and smugly suggests that for the more mature biking enthusiasts they can attach foam padding. There is, of course, an extra charge. My wife chooses the extra padding and is currently riding around on what looks like a bucket seat from a 1967 Buick. I, on the other hand, have decided to save the additional expense and go without the padding. My proctologist has assured me that the tingling in my left buttock should eventually fade away.

Early Saturday morning we prepare for our first cycling adventure. We decide to leave early to insure we’ll be back before dark. My wife is to travel in front and carry a fanny pack with suntan lotion, a first aid kit and our medical insurance cards. Her job is to set the pace. My job is to follow behind and criticize. I’ll be carrying a backpack filled with: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (for subsistence), energy bars (for endurance), 2 jugs of Gatorade (to replenish our bodily fluids), rain gear (in case of inclement weather), a map and compass (in case we get lost), a flashlight (in case we’re lost at night), and signal flares (to assist the search party).

We go over the route one final time. I spread the map out on the kitchen table, pointer in hand. “This is the route we’ll be taking, so pay close attention. If you have any questions, now is the time to ask.”

I carefully review the emergency procedures. “If separated, we will rendezvous either here, at check-point Charlie, or here, at check-point Romeo.”

“We’ve been over this four times already,” my wife complains, obviously taking the whole adventure much too lightly and showing no respect for my superior training and experience. After all, I was the one who spent nearly two full years in the Cub Scouts, not her. Fortunately, I understand the

seriousness of the task ahead and have taken the necessary precautions.

We’re finally ready to put our weeks of training and preparations to use. It’s time to venture forth and boldly go where no sane middle-aged man or woman has gone before -- it’s time to leave our driveway.

I brief the kids. “Now remember, while we’re gone I want one of you to remain by the phone at all times in case we need to call for assistance.”

“But you’re only going around the block,” the kids complain. “The house will be in sight the entire time.”

Ah, the innocence of youth. They oversimplify everything.
