1217 Rapson, Edward James. “Catalogue of the Coins of the Andhra Dynasty, the Western Ksatrapas, the Traikutaka Dynasty and the Bodhi Dynasty” (Catalogue of Indian Coins in the British Museum vol. 3) London 1908, 268pp, 21 plates, ownership bookplate on the inside cover, ownership inscription of Prof. Thomas Ollive Mabbott Ph.D, FRNS penned on the fl yleaf, minor damage to the upper and lower spine extremities but internally a fi ne copy. An essential reference to the series and especially useful for the Western Ksatrap issues which frequently appear on the market but prove so diffi cult to attribute, contains a wealth of historical information which is impossible to fi nd elsewhere, it’s greatest value lies in the transliteration of ancient inscriptions making attribution to specifi c kings and rulers possible, supported by an excellent series of plates far superior to the reprint editionThomas Ollive Mabbott (1898-1968), American numismatist, was also professor of literature at Hunter College University of New York 1929-1966 Est. $100

Has seen better days but a rarely encountered example of the extraordinary level of artistic mid-19th century bookbinding, well deserving of a little effort to restore it back to its former glory and some TLCIn the mid-19th Century materials and production techniques had reached a level which allowed highly sophisticated and complex designs across all the Arts, including bookbinding. The Great Exhibition of 1851 showcased these advances and elaborate gift books became the ‘must-have’ of the social elite in the decade of the 1850’s. At the peak of artistic production professional designers occasionally signed the fruits of their labours: the signature “HR” appears on a tablet beneath the armorial in the present item, revealing the craftsman (William Harry Rogers) who produced this remarkable work. An identical item was displayed in an exhibition of “rare and beautiful publishers bindings” at the University of Rochester during March-August 2002; the same exhibition can now be seen on-lineHenry Noel Humphreys (1810-1879) British illustrator, naturalist and numismatist, authored works on entomology (notably the species of British moths and butterfl ies), archaeology, writing and printing as well as coins.
