The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) and Mexico’s Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), through its Undersecretariat of Agriculture, wanted to improve program design and projects for Mexico’s agricultural development – with a special focus on the MasAgro (Sustainable Modernization of Traditional Agriculture) program. They believed the best strategy to accomplish these improvements would be to integrate, correlate, and analyze the diverse information sources being collected from each project.

The main challenge they faced was that the information related to these programs was dispersed across different agencies and departments, in multiple information systems and disparate formats. These complexities made it very difficult to use traditional technology to generate the reports and indicators required to pinpoint the agricultural producers that needed support, and the amount of resources and benefits that should be allocated to them.

The “Sistema de Explotacion de Padrones (SIP)” or Registry Access System powered by the DSAengine and AIE delivers a deep understanding of the current situation by integrating information about programs, registries, producers, infrastructure investments, technologies and research studies.
