In general, the vast majority of Montenegrin citizens are informed about the coronavirus, while

almost three-fifths of citizens claim that they are very well informed.

Over one-half of the surveyed citizens express concern that they and people close to them could

contract coronavirus. On the other hand, more than two-fifths of citizens are not concerned,

while one-fifth of them are not worried at all.

A quarter of the citizens who have a chronic disease pointed out that they were very worried that

they or their loved ones could be infected with coronavirus. Compared to the total number of

citizens, a very high level of concern is significantly more prevalent among citizens with chronic

diseases (specifically, 18% compared to 26%).

Overall, over three-fifths of citizens believe that coronavirus does not pose a threat to either

them personally, to the place where they live, or to their family, while one-half of the citizens

perceive that it does not represent a threat to Montenegro. However, over two-fifths of them

point out that the coronavirus poses a threat to the world.

Almost all citizens support frequent handwashing and disinfection as a prevention measure

against coronavirus. In addition, the majority of citizens support the application of measures

related to maintaining physical distance and wearing facemasks indoors.

The biggest support has been recorded for adherence to two of the measures related to more frequent

handwashing and disinfection and physical distancing – supported by over four-fifths of citizens. In

addition to this, seven out of 10 citizens support measures related to maintaining hand hygiene and

wearing face masks indoors, while over two-thirds of citizens support maintaining physical distance and

wearing face masks indoors. Adherence to all three measures is supported by two-thirds of Montenegrin

citizens.

Eight out of 10 citizens of Montenegro who support the measure of wearing face masks indoors,

apply the measure of wearing face masks themselves, as well as the measure that involves

keeping a distance of 1 to 3 metres while talking to others. In addition to this, close to three-

quarters of citizens are adhering to the measure of more frequent handwashing.

Overall, most citizens are adhering to various measures to protect themselves from coronavirus,

primarily measures related to maintaining hygiene of the hands and face, avoiding home visits,

wearing face masks, more frequent use of disinfectants, and avoiding handshakes. On the other

hand, nearly one-half of citizens state that they do not wear gloves and that they are not

avoiding physical contact with their loved ones.

Most citizens are adhering to only two of the measures – more frequent handwashing and wearing of

masks (80%), which indicates that keeping a distance of 1–3m from one’s interlocutor is a measure that is

the greatest challenge for citizens out of the three measures recommended during recent weeks. Almost

one-quarter of citizens say that they are not keeping their distance when talking to others. All three

recommended measures are being adhered to by one-third of citizens.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, over half of Montenegrin citizens and members of

their households have eaten fresh fruit and vegetables every day, while over one-third of adult

citizens have consumed tobacco products. At the same time, about two-thirds of citizens report

that they have not consumed fast food, such as hamburgers, pizza and French fries or have had

alcoholic beverages.

significantly more often stated that they had not once drunk alcohol during this period. On the

other hand, almost one-third of these citizens consumed tobacco products every day, while one-

quarter of them drank carbonated drinks one to three times a week.

The frequency of consuming beverages and tobacco products during a pandemic appears to be

similar among citizens of Montenegro and citizens who have felt lonely since the pandemic

began. Four out of 10 citizens who experienced the feeling of loneliness consumed tobacco

products every day, while more than one-fifth of them drank carbonated drinks one to three

times a week.

Over two-fifths (44%) of adult citizens who have felt bored since the pandemic was declared

report that they have consumed tobacco products on a daily basis, which is significantly more

often than all citizens of Montenegro. Three out of 10 such citizens reported that they drank

Nearly half of citizens plan to start regular walks in the next week, over two-fifths plan to start

Over two-fifths of Montenegrin citizens state that since the beginning of the pandemic, they have

very often felt calm and happy, and one-third of citizens felt content. At the same time, citizens

have rarely experienced feelings of loneliness, sadness, fear and anger. On the other hand,

boredom has occurred in almost one-third of citizens.
