The following eligibility requirements apply:
You must own a single familydwelling in need of repair.
You lack personal resources whichcan be utilized to pay for neededrepairs.
Your household income cannotexceed 50% of the median countyincome.
You must be a US citizen or a non-citizen legally admitted forpermanent residence or on anindefinite parole.
You must possess legal capacity toincur the loan obligation.
You must be 62 years of age orolder to qualify for a grant orcombination loan and grant.
You must live in a rural area or acommunity with a population of20,000 or less.
You must demonstrate a positivecredit history.
Highlights of the program: Applications are filed with local
Rural Development offices. Loans will bear a 1% interest
rate for a term of up to 20years.
A mortgage will be required forloans in excess of $7,500.
Maximum home improvementloan may be made up to 100%of market value.
Loan/grant funds may beutilized with funds from otherprivate or public fundingsources.
Grants are available to removehealth and safety concerns to ahome and are limited toapplicants that are 62 years ofage or older.
