Summary

The City of Sydney’s social sustainability policy and action plan, A City for All: Towards a socially just and resilient Sydney (A City for All) sets out the City’s vision and agenda to sustain a socially just and resilient Sydney over the next decade. The public exhibition for the plan ran from 23 April 2018 to 25 May 2018. The consultation was an opportunity for all levels of government, the private and not-for-profit sectors and the City’s wider community to provide feedback on the action plan. The consultation included online engagement and the dissemination of public notices. The Sydney Your Say page attracted strong interest, and the City received 17 formal submissions. Key findings:

Overall, the community was supportive of the action plan.

Respondents from the industry welcomed the opportunity to engage with the City to work together to facilitate actions towards a socially sustainable Sydney.

A summary of key findings from stakeholder feedback is included in Appendix A.

This report summarises the community engagement activities that were implemented to support the consultation and the key results from the consultation.

Background

The City’s draft Social Sustainability Policy and Discussion Paper were publicly exhibited from 29 March to 12 May 2016. During the exhibition period, the City undertook an extensive program of consultation. Engagement activities included a formal briefing and a sector forum for key stakeholders. A people’s summit of 200 community representatives was convened to explore the outcomes of the public exhibition period, and to guide next steps.

More than 2,400 people participated in the consultation. The City received more than 470 responses through surveys and written submissions. Analysis of this feedback enabled the City to finalise the policy and develop this action plan.
