Paintings by Keith Murrayof Sulphur will be on displayduring July at the Artists of theArbuckles’ Jean Carr Gallery.

Murray, a native ofHealdton, graduated fromSouthwestern OklahomaState University with a degreein art and attended graduateschool at West Texas StateUniversity in Canyon, Texas.

Despite these years of studyin the field of art, Murray at-tributes the fruition of his questfor creating “life beyond theimage” to his study with clas-sical realist, Kirk Richards, inAmarillo.

“I spent the next six yearsunlearning much of what Ihad been taught in the sys-tem. Technical ability isvery important to me,” hesaid. “But even more impor-tant is that special some-thing that has to be seen, feltand held in the heart that theartist hopes to channel ontothe canvas.”

He attributes the real blos-soming of his work to this rig-orous training, and the resultsseem to prove his point fromthe wide array of galleries, shows and exhibits that haveincluded his work over thepast years.

Grease, with a story abouthigh school memories forthe class of 1959, is a com-ing-of-age classic that pro-vides a “... fun flashback tothe music, dance, clothingand lifestyes of the late50’s,” according to theshow’s director, Brian Gun-ter, a former Lone Groveeducator.

Though the play openedin New York in 1972, it re-

mains a popular standard forcommunity theatres andschool productions. Themovie based on the play stillreigns as the highest gross-ing live-action film musicalin the U.S. Both stage andscreen versions won multipleawards, and the play has re-turned for revival Broadwayruns and national road tours.

Buy or CryThe last few months my

family has moved into newterritory – budgeting. I canjust see Dave Ramsey smil-ing now.

I know, I know. NO ONEWANTS TO TALK BUD-GET. The word “budget”ranks high on my list of“words that make mesweat.” Heck, it’s right upthere with “TSA” or “IRS.”

However, budgeting is anecessary evil for families inthis day and age.

I went into a total flopsweat when hubby said itwas time to iron out our bud-get. When it comes tomoney, he’s wound tighterthan the poster child forType A personality. Moneyis his kryptonite. I know thisall too well, so I expected usto argue. Sad, huh?

The problem we’ve al-ways had was “justifying thepurchase.” He’s totally con-tent with saving and makingone big purchase. I tend tolean more toward the side of“if I like it, I’ll buy it.” Op-posites attract, right?

Well, this time, our talkwas painless. We agreed onthe structure of our budget, amazingly. That hour and ahalf we sat talking has savedus from a lot of heartacheand frustration. I feel like thesaving grace of our budgetwas the fact that we eachhave a certain amount of“discretionary funds.”

Money I can spend onmyself? What? This is goingto be FUN!

I have fallen victim to the“when I lose weight” men-tality that plagues mostmoms. Because of this, mywardrobe has suffered. Ihave a handful of outfits thatI feel comfortable in when Ihave to leave the house. But, every time I get dressedI see the “when I lose 10pounds wardrobe” that takesup most of my closet.

Sadly, it’s taken me quitesome time to realize thatwhen you look good, youfeel good. Not to mention ifyou take care of thoseclothes when you shedthose “lbs.” there are magi-cal places called CONSIGN-

MENT STORES you cantake those clothes and resellthem. Can I get an AMEN forconsignment stores?

Well, I have had my eyeson this super cute maxidress. Black and coral. Re-ally pretty and forgiving inall the right places. It was alittle more than I wanted topay but I LOVE THISDRESS.

So, I ordered the dressknowing that this companyships really fast, and I’dhave it in just a few days.

A few days came and wentwith no dress. So, I checkedthe email, tracked the pack-age and saw “PACKAGESTATUS: DELIVERED.”Normally, that would makeme very happy but I nevergot that package. I called thePost Office and the nice mantold me he’d look for thepackage and asked me tocall back on Monday if Ididn’t see the package inMonday’s mail delivery.

Now What? It’s ironic that I buy some-

thing for myself and (as ofright now) I’m not sure if I’mgoing to get what I wanted. This has happened to me alot lately.

The dress was a “buy orcry” item. Meaning buy itnow or cry later. I wantedthat dress. I ordered thatdress in record time.

Funny thing was, buyer’sremorse set in quickly. Thecost of the dress was half of“my money” for the month.
