Study must be full-time in a course registered for international students on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)

Visa Application Fee

The DIAC visa application fee is Rs.18,500/-

Students can either choose to lodge student visas applications via E-visa system ( with agents) or paper lodgment at VFS office in their city

Visa Requirements

Schedule 5A of Migration Regulations requires that all students have funds from an acceptable source that are sufficient to meet the following expenses : (i) course fees; (ii) living costs; medical insurance(iii) travel costs

Period for which these funds must be shown: Subclass 571/574 - the entire period of study Subclasses 570, 573, 575 - the first 36 months of study Subclass 572 - the entire course or the first 36 months of study

The Migration Regulations require applicants to have these funds in their possession from the past 6 months.

Financial Capacity

AUD$12,000 per 12 month period

Living Costs

If an applicant is accompanied by spouse and/or dependents :

Spouse - add AUD$4200 for each 12 month period.

1st child - add further AUD$2400 (living costs) + AUD$8000 (schooling) for any child turning 5years of age for each 12 month period.

Additional children – AUD$1800 (living costs)+ AUD$8000 (schooling) for each 12 month period

These costs apply even if spouse/children are not accompanying the student to Australia

Financial Capacity

Acceptable Individual The Schedule 5A definition of ‘Acceptable source of funds’ for

Assessment Level 4 states that funds must be from an ‘acceptable individual’.

‘Acceptable individuals’ are limited to one or more of the following:

(a) the applicant;(b) the applicant’s spouse;(c) the applicant’s parents;(d) the applicant’s grandparents;(e) the applicant’s brothers and sisters.(f) an uncle or an aunt who is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent

resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen and is usually resident in Australia.

Acceptable Evidence of FundsEvidence of funds for the entire period of study; and

Must be fully sanctioned; granted ‘in-principle’ letters are not acceptable.

Details of guarantor, collateral security and owner thereof should appear on the loan letter. These must be acceptable individuals/declared financial supporters.

For a loan other than an education loan, letter from the bank to be provided stating the name of the applicant and that loan can be used for his/her education purpose.

If loan is secured against a recently created Financial Deposit (FD)- source of FD is required.

If a loan is not fully disbursed then we will assess the capacity of the financial supporter(s)( should be a acceptable individual) to repay the loan.

Joint accounts are acceptable if account holders are ‘acceptable individuals’.

Each account holder must agree in writing to the use of the funds by way of affidavits

Family tree should be provided, including details of account holders to be shown.

Evidence of relationship to the applicant should be provided (eg. passport, birth, marriage or education certificates).

Provident Funds: GPF acceptable IF annual statement is provided with letter from

employer stating permissible withdrawal for education purposes. GPF/CPF/ PF of only applicant’s parents is acceptable

Withdrawal limits for Public Provident Funds: Loan up to 25% of balance at the end of the first financial year from

3rd to 6th year. If held 6+ years, 50% of balance held at the end of the 4th year

preceding the year in which the amount is withdrawn. If held 15+ years, current balance amount Letter from bank stating amount that can be withdrawn.

Unacceptable Funds

Kisan and Krishi Credit Cards – The visa office DO NOT accept.

These are issued for agricultural purposes, not international education.

Credit cards are not an acceptable source of funds.

LIC / Mutual Bonds / Tax Saving Bonds not acceptable

Loans or Deposits from NABARD / Agricultural Sector Banks not accepted

Processing - Visa Office

Applications should be lodged at the AHC at least 12 weeks prior to course commencement date

The commencement of the course is the date orientation starts. Applications should not be lodged after course has commenced, with extension letters from the University.

We require 8-12 weeks to process an application

Make sure the application is complete - do not rely on the visa office to advise you of missing documentation - you risk Refusal.

Current processing times E-visas - Adelaide 7 weeks; New Delhi 8 weeks
