The 1st Greek guards unit was formed 1867 and ever since it has par-ticipated in all wars till ww2. Today is an honorable military unit at-tached to the head of the state. It is manned by carefully selected soldiers. Require high standards personality and fitness ! Evzones are trained very hard to full l their service (minimum height to join 1,86). The etymology means the well-girt men. They belong to the “Proedriki Froura”, the guards of the President of Democracy. It is a high honor for every Greek soldier to be chosen as an Evzone- TSOLIAS

Changing of the guardsEvery Sunday at 11:00, tourists gather in front of the Parliament building on Syntagma Square to watch the ceremonial changing of the guard with parade in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier located under the Greek Parliament building. The changing of the guard ceremony takes place every hour on the hour, 24 hours a day. Every solder guards for an hour. Throughout these 60 minutes, they have to stand perfectly still until it is time to switch with another guard. During the changing, they work in pairs so they can perfectly coordinate their moves.

Foustanella (the skirt)This unique uniform of the Presidential Guard has a historical mean-ing. It refers to the uniform of the Kleftes and Armatoloi, two groups of Greek warriors during the War of Independence (1821) against the Ottomans. In fact, the white skirt of the uniform has 400 folds to represent the 400 years of Ottoman occupation over the Greeks. However archaeological evidence painted on vases from the Byzan-tine period show the Foustanella was in use in Greek territories in the 12th century AD whilst kilt like garments were represented in sculp-tures found in the Attica region dating back to the 5th century BC.

Tsarouchia (the shoes)This shoes over three kilograms and feature at least 60 nails on the base of the shoe which simulate the sound of battle during the move-ment of the Evzone. The toe of the Tsarouchia is pointed upwards and covered by a black silk pom pom which is hand cut to shape.

PARTHENON MARBLES...also known as The Elgin marbles are a collection of Classical Greek marble sculptures, inscriptions, and architectural pieces that were originally part of the temple of the Parthenon and other buildings on the Acropolis of Athens.Lord Elgin British ambassador to the Ottoman Em-pire obtained in 1801 a controversial permit to re-move the marbles. From 1801 to 1812, Elgin’s agents removed about half of the surviving sculptures of the Parthenon, as well as sculptures from the Propylaea and Erech-theum. The Marbles were transported by sea to Britain. In Britain, the acquisition of the collection was supported by some people, whereas others, such as Lord Byron linked Elgin’s actions to vandalism.Later Greece began major projects for the restoration of the country’s monuments, and has expressed its disapproval of El-gin’s removal of the Marbles from the Acropolis and the Parthenon, which is regarded as one of the world’s greatest cultural monuments. Greece disputes the subsequent purchase of the Mar-bles by the British Government and urges the return of the marbles to Greece for their unification.

A contemporary museum unveils its story

THE OTE Group Telecommunications Museum opened up to the public in 1990 and is ranked under the technological museums. Museum collections. It is our legacy towards future generations, which is accomplished through the scientific recording of the telecommunications history in our country.

Our HeritageTHE OTE Group Telecommunications Museum is one of a kind and among the few technological museums in Greece. OTE has created this unique museum, with the objective to responsibly manage its corporate heritage, as a pioneer in Hellenic telecommunications. It is a substantial company investment, aiming at the conservation, maintenance, record-ing, research, study, digitisation of documents and data pertaining to the evolution of Hellenic telecommu-

nications, as well as showcasing this wide range of telecom artefacts to the general public.

Open to SocietyThe Museum has, in recent years, adopted a more open approach to present-day Greek society, aspiring to become an integral part of it. Through its activities, partnerships, educational programmes, travelling exhibitions and respective events, the Museum is "open" to society, establishing a powerful relationship with it. Graffition Athens

Graffiti on Athens’ city walls, buildings, stat-ues, almost everywhere possible, is usually about political slogans, symbols and crew tags. Still, there are many creative graffiti artists who spray their city walls in their own colourful way.Graffiti in Athens is as old as the city itself. In ancient times graffiti was carved into build-ings, in fact the word comes from the Greek graphi which means to write.During the Nazi occupation, the Civil War and the 1967 graffiti was common in Ath-ens and served a political reason.Today it is mostly the work of frustrated kids whose signatures all over the city seem like a cry for help to a world that does not notice that they exist or artists they want to express and expose their work in open spaces for every-body.

DRINK COFFEE....THE GREEK WAY...

FRAPPE

ELLINIKOS (GREEK BLEND COFFEE)

Frappe coffee is an iced coffee beverage made from instant coffee originally from Greece. Never mind if you’re a coffee lover or not. When you’re in Athens, make sure you try a frappé. It’s a drink with coffee, water, ice cubes, and they usually add sugar and milk.

It’s the MOST popular drink in Greece. You’ll see Greeks sipping their frappé everywhere: on the beach, at work or on the streets. But keep in mind: if you want a sweetened frappé, you need to specify how sweet you want your bev-erage. The sugar is always mixed with the drink be-fore it is served!

* Sketo: plain, without sugar* Metrio: medium, with a bit of sugar (1-2 spoon)* Glyko: sweet, with about 2-4 spoons of sugar

Frappés are best with milk. So make sure to add some.

Don’t like cold drinks? Then you might want to order a hot Greek coffee. Just like the Turkish cof-fee, the Greek coffee has a thick layer of sediment grounds at the bottom of the cup. And you don’t drink the ground. So you’ll have to sip your coffee slowly. Oriental flavor and excellent taste.

Try to combine Ellinikos with typical Greek spoon sweets (Gliko tou koutal-iou). Spoon sweets are made with fruit and sugar to create a smooth syrup. They are served by the spoonful, hence the name.

It is one of the oldest confectioneries in the area that still offers traditional sweet and salt products. The methods used are the same with those used 60 years ago. All our products are produced from start to end in our workshop and are served exclusively from our shop. We use mostly hand made methods of production and our first quality raw materials are fresh and prepared by us. It seems that time has stopped in an era where confectioners were called “craftsmen”.All our products are produced daily and the famous “negros” (named by the founder “Tasos” after the name of the footballer Negri) as well as the brioche or the “samali” and the custard filled pastry. Every twenty minutes products come our directly from our oven and the customers have the feeling they themselves have produced the product at home. Therefore it is not by pure chance that somedoby can taste the most delicious cheesepie even in his life. There is a large variety of events we celebrate in Greece.....

Before and after wedding, baby christening, birthdays, corporate events or just a party with friends. We like to organize events with kefi (κέφι): A word well known to Greeks without exact translation to another language. It’s rather a feeling which may be translated as being in high mood.Saying kefi, we are also referring to: joy, spirit, passion, happiness, excitement, feeling good, hav-ing fun, or loving life. So how you cannot succeed planning an event with these ingredients.Today in Greece we have the best event planners to help you transform a simple event to an unforgettable memory. From wedding to friends gathering, you will have the best time of your life. And when you return back home you will have fantastic images by choosing Greece’s beauty as your memories background.

The Marina is a small elegant town next to the medieval city of Rhodes. It is one of the most beautiful spots all around the year. The innovative environment, technically speaking, for docking co-exists in harmony with the recreational areas and walkways that offer moments of escape not only to the Rhodians but also to the tourists.

So far during its second year of operation the Marina has become a traction, a point of gathering and reference because it hosts important athletic events as well as it consists a significant meeting point for the locals and the visitors of the island too.

There are 400 docking places available for yachts varying from 12m to 100m but most important the Marina consists a safe base for the visitor during the whole period of his stay. From there he can travel anywhere to the Aegean sea or further in the Mediterranean sea. Our vision and aim is the development of naval tourism and the provision of high quality services regarding safety and protection of the yachts in such way that believe we can create the absolute destination at the Meditteranean sea.
