ATEX for Offshore OperationsIndustries that hold high-risk rates in relation to danger from fire, explosive atmospheres and exothermic reactions etc need to comply withDSEAR/ATEX regulations.

The Offshore Sector requires equipment that is capable of operating in a potentially hazardous environment. For electrical equipment this is largelycovered under existing equipment certification for Zone 1 and Zone 2 equipment. However there are applications, such as the use of internalcombustion engines, that are not covered, and there is no clear solution to these types of application.

The following areas will be addressed:

• HSE overview of the requirements of the Offshore Regulations • Certifying authority – offshore safety case • Industry expert – introduction to DSEAR/ATEX • Consultant – definition of explosive atmospheres • Manufacturer – ATEX implications for rotating equipment • Design contractor – the importance of area classification and the requirement of DSEAR• Manufacturer – offshore explosion protection systems • Manufacturer – implementation of ATEX on mechanical equipment • Consultant – ATEX/DSEAR assessment – difficulties with compliance• Case studies from operators and suppliers on their experience with ATEX

Benefits of AttendanceAttending this seminar will help delegates:

• Prevent the formation of explosive atmospheres in a workplace OR avoid the ignition of explosive atmospheres• Conduct a risk assessment including the likelihood of explosive atmospheres and the source of ignition• Select ATEX 94/9/EC-compliant equipment in accordance with the intended zones• Question sessions and time for networking will enable delegates to seek specific help from the assembled gathering of experts

Who Should AttendThe seminar is for engineers, managers, offshore operators, designers and colleagues associated with the offshore oil and gas industry, whowish to broaden their awareness of new DSEAR/ATEX regulations.
