Welcome to Ateneo

Everyone has their own list of emotional and psychological problems. In fact, a lot of people have asked the question, how can the org’s members help others when we, as human beings, have problems of our own? Put it in a cheesier way, how can you love someone truly if you don’t even love yourself? Our answer: We have each other. We have our family composed of a diverse set of individuals with different personalities, interests, backgrounds who are helping one another grow as individuals, at the same time unlocking each and everyone’s potential as PEER Coaches. Everybody has issues, I mean who doesn’t? Even members of PEERS aren’t excluded from that. It’s all just a matter of putting things into perspective. I’m not going to tell you the story of how I joined PEERS and how I became to love this organization. But I am going tell you this: being a PEER Coach isn’t easy, however we believe in PEERS that everyone can become one – anyone can be a suPEERhero. Extend yourself and open yourself to the experiences of others and their extensive backgrounds. Learn new things, discover traits and odd quirks about yourself. Meet people who understand and care about your emotional and psychological well-being, no matter how petty [or serious] you think they are. We will listen and talk you through it. Inspire others to do the same through making a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others . And of course, help others help themselves.

We envision ourselves to be a family of peer coaches dedicated to helping others help themselves in

terms of discovering, understanding, and addressing their emotional and psychological

needs.

Training/ teaching the person-centered technique.

Realize their own potential as PEER coaches.

Equipped with skills to facilitate and offer emotional and psychological support and guidance.

After a year of serving as the mascot for Ateneo PEERS, Mang Pepe saw that the organization has grown much and decided that it was time for him to go and be the ultimate PEER coach wherever he would be needed. He did not completely leave PEERS however. In his stead, he left five of his most trusted companions to guard the Loyola Schools community. They are…Ren the Rabbit of Effective Listening, Beni the Bird of Openness, Fufu the Bear of Warmth, Pipo the Penguin of Respect, and Dino the Dog of Empathy. Together, they represent the organization's core values as the organization's new mascots.

A building is only as strong as its foundations, and a good, working organization is only as good as the people who work behind the scenes to ensure that all systems are accounted for. The Finance and Logistics department is a vital part of Ateneo PEERS because it makes certain that all its projects, programs and events run smoothly and efficiently, through the reservation of facilities, handling of food and other matters, and the formulation of fundraising ideas. Help Ateneo PEERS create successful fund-raising projects for better, fancier food and venues (with swimming pools), while improving your practical PR and math skills! Got any ideas? Suggestions? Ways of making-kiliti and hatak people? Join the FinLog Fundraising Team! Help us in deciding effective strategies for our fundraisers. Let’s make our org rich [in love]!

Just some of our fund-raising activities lined up:

RC aims to foster exploration on relevant topics across various fields to incite awareness and discussion. They also conceptualize different ways of “getting messages out there” as well as outsource creative talent to get people involved.

DP is all about making graphics and videos that represent the organization. Be they promotions for events or independent creative endeavors, DP simply aims to develop creativity through visual media.

WR makes sure the org is able to communicate with others with both mastery over languages and creativity. WR also aims to promote the org’s advocacies through writing pieces in hopes of sparking discussions.

SM provides the org with an online presence to further promote the org’s services and advocacies. SM aims to spark awareness, discussions, and actions, as part of fulfilling the org’s mission.

The Externals Department of PEERS is in charge of all negotiations and transactions with organizations or entities outside of PEERS. The ED aims to promote the organization beyond its own bounds, forming

and fostering relationships with other organizations within and outside the Ateneo. The department aims to partner with these organizations

in promoting the vision and mission of PEERS. On its first year, the ED proudly presents and brings you our very own Ateneo PEERS Membership Card, complete with sponsors and benefits

or perks (PEERks; see full list of priveleges at the last page).

Find an Ohana in

Ateneo PEERs is an organization that caters to the more personal aspects of an Ateneans psychological well-being, and thus it, like the guidance office, places the safety and comfort of its constituents and clients as its priority one; but first and foremost this organization is a family of like minded individuals who all believe in the power to make a difference through even the simple acts of listening to a person rant about their day or even lend a shoulder to cry on. Just as Stitch (from Lilo and Stitch the movie) said: "Ohana means family and that family means no one gets left behind or forgotten" so too does the Ateneo PEERS dare to say that you will always find Ohana in us. Again, welcome (to the new members) and welcome back (to the old members) to another year of PEERs, of duty, and of family.
