SECTOR NEWS CRIME PREVENTION WEBSITE

Department of Justice and Regulation's Community Crime Prevention Unit have launched a new-

look, streamlined website to make it easier to find information on the grants programs and

community crime prevention resources.

The website redevelopment began in 2016 and included an online survey to help create a website

that offered a better service. Through the survey, feedback was received from council staff and

community stakeholders, police and key government agencies which helped inform the website

design. Many thanks to those who took part in the survey.

While the website address remains the same, any links you may have bookmarked will have

changed.

MACKILLOP EDUCATION SERVICES: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - PROMOTING

TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICE IN SCHOOLS The impact of trauma on a child’s ability to learn has been highlighted by recent research. This

research challenges us to consider trauma on a continuum and to recognise that a significant

proportion of children and young people in our classrooms are impacted by trauma, to varying

degrees.

MacKillop Education Services supports children and young people who are disengaged from

learning, or who are at risk of disengaging, or being excluded. These students have often

experienced, or continue to experience, trauma which impacts on their capacity to successfully

access education.

MacKillop Education Services is organising a Professional Development Day:

Promoting Trauma-Informed Practice in Schools

Equity and Access for ALL Students

The Professional Development day will be held in both Melbourne and Geelong:

Melbourne: Wed 16th August 2017

Geelong: Thu 17th August 2017

This Professional Development aims to deepen understanding and challenge pre-conceptions about

trauma. Drawing on MacKillop’s Sanctuary in Schools model of practice, trauma-informed strategies

and approaches will be shared to enhance the capacity of staff to support all students in the

classroom.

The Professional Development will be relevant to those working in education departments, school

leaders, teaching and wellbeing staff and those who work in the health and community service

sectors.
