Atascosa County Council will be holding a canned food drive at the Awards Banquet. We ask that you please bring at least one canned food item to help stock the pantry at local food banks. Atascosa County 4-H Awards Banquet

August 2, 2019 at 6:00 PM

Pleasanton Jr. High Cafeteria

We are excited to announce the 2019 awards banquet is just

around the corner. Tickets are $7.00 for parents, non-4-Hers and

guest, and 4-H Member price is $5.00. Due to limited seating, we

cannot guarantee tickets will be available at the door. Please pur-

chase your tickets in advance at the Atascosa County Extension Of-

fice or by mailing in a check by July 23rd.

This years guest speaker will be

Jimmy Meyer Receives Salute to Excellence Award

at Texas 4-H Roundup

Each year, the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program provides awards and recognition for

4-H Volunteers and Leaders that provide support to the 4-H program. The Texas 4-H Sa-

lute to Excellence Award recognizes 2 volunteers from each district for their outstand lead-

ership and role they play in the 4-H program. Jimmy Meyer was presented with the Salute

to Excellence award on Wednesday June 12, 2019 at a luncheon during the Roundup compe-

tition. Pictured along side him are, from left to right, Dr. Parr Rosson, III; Jimmy Meyer;

Dale Rankin; and Dr. Courtney Dodd.

Jam Making Class

On June 12, 2019 the ladies of the Brush Country

Study Group held a Jelly Making Class for any 4-H

Member that was interested in attending. Abigail

Kumuas was in attendance to learn the ins and out

of making Strawberry Jam. In addition to leaning

how to make the jam she was able to take home a

few jars of the delicious jam for herself. The

Brush Country Study Group looks to hold more

classes at later dates so pay attention to the

monthly 4-H Newsletter for more chances to learn

other great crafts.

Atascosa County 4-H At Texas Roundup

Members of the Atascosa County 4-H traveled to College Station, Texas to participate

at the Texas 4-H Roundup at Texas A&M University. Senior Teams participated in Ag

Product ID, Consumer Decision Making, and Livestock Judging. Junior 4-H Member

Tucker Fair participated in Entomology. Both the Consumer Decision Making and

Livestock Judging Teams had to qualify by winning the District 12 Contest in both

events. The Consumer Decision Making team won 5th place at Roundup; the Live-

stock Judging Team won 10th place at Roundup; and Tucker Fair won 3rd with his En-

tomology collection. Great job to all of those 4-H Members that Participated.

The Cowboy of the Year Open Rodeo and Festival will be held Au-

gust 15—17, 2019.

Atascosa County 4-H has sent volunteers to help out in the Conces-

sion Stand and they have provided a part of the proceeds back to

4-H. We need help to fill spots.

We have multiple shifts available each day. If you would like to

help out please contact Ashlie at the Atascosa County AgriLife Extension

office at [email protected] or 830-569-0034 and she can schedule

you for a shift that works best for you.

Club Officer and Manager Training

The annual officer and manager training workshop will be held on Monday July 15,

2019 at 6 PM.

The training will be at the Atascosa County Extension Office.

Fun Activities are planned for the officers so come excited for a new 4-H year!

This training is for any elected officer for all of the clubs in Atascosa County and club

managers.

Interviews will be held on Monday July 8, 2019 at

the Atascosa County Extension Office if you

applied and did not receive an email with your in-

terview time please contact the Extension Office.

Watch your email to get the exact time of your in-

terview. Every applicant must interview at their

scheduled time.

Camps will run from 9AM—2 PM. Early drop off can be arranged by

contacting the Atascosa County AgriLife Extension Office. More

information about topics being covered each day will be coming out soon so

Race Day Classic Steer Show, July 21, 2019

Judge: Dr. Scott Schaake

Barn opens Friday July 19, at 8 AM. Registration begins Friday at 4 PM. All cattle must be

in barn and checked in by 9 AM Saturday July 20. Classifying will begin at 10 AM on Satur-

day. Show time July 21, 8 AM.

Entry Fee: July 15, 2019 or before $40 per head. Late fee at registration only $60 per head.

4-H is a “learn by doing” youth education program for children grades 3—12. It promotes

positive values, social responsibility, and lifelong learning. An af iliated program, Clover

Kids, is available in some areas for children 5 to 7 (K to 2). Through 4-H and the opportuni-

ties it provides, 4-H members have the ability to participate in many events and activities, as

well as apply for scholarships, travel the country, and meet new friends. Enrollment begins in

August.
