ATA SUBSCRIPTION FEES FOR 2011

ATA has increased membership fees by 8.5% as

an average. Unfortunately our abroad members

will need to pay a little extra. This is mainly due to postal cost increases.

The 2011 membership fees for all subscription

members are as follows:-

1. Adult South African members increase

from R160-00 to R170-00 PA. 2. Adult Non S A member increase from

R200-00 to R220-00 PA. 3. Junior Members – increase from R40-00 to

R45-00.

This is an important notice:-

The onus is on “you” the member to pay your subscriptions within the period allowed. ATA will not run after members reminding them of their outstanding subs. The following guidelines have been set by

Excom. Subs for 2011 must be paid in full by 31 March 2011.

Should you fail to do this you will no longer

receive a Newsletter, but you will still have a further month to pay (end April).

Should you still want to remain a member and

pay after April but before June 30th with an administrative fee penalty of R50-00, you will

still remain a member.

Should you pay after June 30th, you will be

regarded as a new member and will pay the admin fee and be recognized as a new club

member w.e.f. July 2011.

For your convenience you can deposit your subs into ATA’s banking account. The details are as

follows:-

Standard Bank, Menlyn Branch, Branch code 01-23-45, Cheque account, number 012161640.

Please use your Name followed by subs 2011 as

reference. EG:-A.N.Other-subs-2011.

TAT COMPETITION 2011

2010 TAT competition continued where 2009 left off and continued to be a huge success.

- 6 -

There are two trophies up for grabs each year;

The African Telatelist floating trophy and the Josef Zelenka floating trophy.

At the November 2010 club meeting it was

decided by members to continue with both the competition in its current format.

The African Telatelist Trophy 2011:

This trophy will still have an African connotation and will be based on the criteria of Mobile

Telco’s in SA operating in Africa. ie: MTN and Vodacom. This means that a member should

collect all type of phonecards (chip and recharge

vouchers) from all the African Countries, who have MTN and Vodacom related cards.

The Josef Zelenka Trophy 2011: The competition for this trophy will be for a

member who has the best percentage rating at

the end of December 2010. A member may enter up to three topics for this competition. You

choose your theme/s which you register with Derik Ras as at 1 January 2010 by naming your

theme and declaring your opening balance i.t.o.

number of phonecards of the particular theme.

The onus is upon the member to then supply his/her increasing total per theme at the end of

each month to Derik Ras. The competition is run on a trust basis and no audit will be done unless

necessary.

The competition is based on a formula, which has a weighting factor i.t.o. the declaration

number and then the monthly accumulative

totals. Thus a person with the most cards may not necessarily be the ultimate winner.

Excom encourages members to continue

participating and keep the hobby alive.

PRESIDENT’S SHIELD 2010

The recipient for the President’s shield 2010 was awarded to Anton de Klerk for his continuous

contribution to ATA i.t.o. Newsletter articles,

catalogue updates and general administration. Anton continue to pull the preverbal “rabbit out

the hat” when it comes to a Newsletter topic. Well done Anton. ATA appreciates your

contributions and dedication.

SMARTEX TROPHY 2010

The end year competition for 2010 will be carried over to January 2011, due to the fact that the December meeting will only be a buffet lunch. All members wanting to participate need to put together a maximum of a 4 page exhibit of their choice. The judging will be done on the day by a selected panel. Hans will arrange all the check lists etc. Due to this the January meeting will start 30 minutes earlier at 12h30.

ATA’s TROPHY COUNT INCREASES BY ONE – VERNON MITCHELL FLOATING TROPHY

During Telately 2009, Vernon Mitchell approached ATA and said that he would like to contribute towards the fostering of phonecard exhibits. He saw a gap in the recognition of “first time” exhibits. In order to encourage and ensure members participate he has donated a trophy, which will be used to recognise “first time exhibitors” efforts during our bi-annual Telately function. ATA wishes to express their appreciation to Vernon for his effort and consideration to our hobby.

Ed: Vernon, Thank you so much. You are a true club man.

TELKOM SA Ltd RELAUNCHES IT’S RECHARGE WORLDCALL CARD

by: Andries Roets

The WorldCall Re-Chargeable card is a Prepaid International Calling Card which now allows customers to recharge airtime online or at any TelkomDirect Store.

Telkom has now implemented a new 3D Secure system that enables secure on-line purchasing of airtime on the WorldCall Re-Chargeable Card.

The system aims to stop hackers from attempting fraudulent transactions, thereby minimizing risk. Customers can now do secure online purchasing of airtime using their credit cards from the convenience of their home and office.

Customers are requested to first register & log into the website and follow the registration process.

The Re-Charge product features and accessibility remains unchanged. Only a separate leg, consisting of Banking Registration is included.

The Re-charge Card will enable you to perform WorldCall airtime recharges on the card without the need to buy physical or electronic vouchers. The card has the look and feel of a credit card with a 12 digit card number. You will now have your own ‘’permanent’’ calling card and account number that can be recharged over and over again.

The card will allow you to keep your Rechargeable Prepaid Calling card and number forever and top-up by visiting a Telkom Direct Shop, or using your credit card by accessing the web site at www.telkom.co.za. The recharge amount will immediately applied to your card and be available for making calls. The process remains the same as the prepaid voucher, by dialing 10136 and following the voice prompts. The starterpack includes your permanent Rechargeable Card and a user manual with instructions. The card will be sold for R9.95 with R10.00 airtime on the card, when activated.

Pricing, Ordering, Contact details

The Starterpack is being sold for R9.95 and can only be purchased at TelkomDirect Stores.

14 OCTOBER 2010 - MAIL FROM KOOS VAN RENSBURG – RE: TELATELTY 2011

1. Your communiqué ATA insert – N/L 149

Nov 2010 has reference. 2. As discussed before, interest in all

aspect is “dwindling”, but still the prospects of a Telately for 2011 are considered by the “die hards”. I am referring to you, Anton, Cedric, Derik, Hans, Brian, etc.

3. My answer to the question, if we should continue with a biannual Telately, is a definite yes. It is a pity about the Impala Park Hall, but on the other hand, it might just be a chance that is needed at this time. Serious “phonecard business” only with the “horse trading” in the second class coaches. (Like the last item on the mandate, spell it out).

4. For us country/rural members, it is a cost effective effort for just one day, but is the price to pay for the choice we made.

5. I support the effort in its whole and will help to make it a roaring success. Please inform me on anything with which I can help.

6. Te drastic decrease in participation and spending is an outflow of the financial recession. Hobbies are moving down on the priority list, the management of this situation is the challenge of today. The proposed changes suggested by the Excom of ATA are a sure sign that our case is in good hands. Keep up the good work.

MTN R30 VOUCHER – SOCCER BALL ALSO

JOINS THE ZAKUMI STYLE

With reference to N/L 132 pg4: During November 2010 the second variation on the R30 MTN Recharge voucher (Soccer Ball) was found. Its obverse is similar to the recent Zakumi V5 vouchers, a 1 alpha / 11 digit code in a grey box area at bottom left. The Bottom bar code length is 42mm x 3.5 mm. It will be catalogued as V20.2

TRADITIONAL CELL C “RED” SIM CARDS GOES “BLACK” Continued

With reference to N/L 148 page 3 and N/L 150

pages 4 & 5, it appears as if the 3rd

variation SIM card is in the market. Totally different Chip compared to Version 1 & 2
