Campaign Purpose and Objective

Purpose• To promote awareness amongst our investors and other stakeholders on the basic fire prevention and protection

at workplaces.

• To provide all workers and the public with information and guidelines that will assist them in recognizing, reporting, and controlling fire hazards that could lead to significant business loss (directly or indirectly)

Objective• To reduce or eliminate the number of incidents caused by Fire, particularly at Manateq premises.

• To continually improve investor’s Fire Safety practices for effective and efficient operations and sustainable business outcomes.

Fire PreventionFire prevention is all about eliminating the sources that may cause fire to occur. This requires inspection,

testing, and maintenance of all machines, equipment and other fire potential systems during operations to eliminate any causes that may lead to fire. This also includes adequate execution of processes associated with handling and controlling hazardous substances that have elements completing the Fire Triangle: Oxygen, Heat, and Fuel.

By default, Fire Fighting Systems need to be periodically inspected for mechanical deficiencies, proper function, valve actuation, water flow, sprinkler clearances, etc.

Overall Fire Prevention Basics:

Perform site and/or activity specific risk assessments and communicate with the relevant workers and parties. This also includes HAZOP as early as in the design stage (where applicable).

Management to allocate resources to effectively implement all the controls defined as a result of the Risk Assessment and/or HAZOP (where applicable).

Identify and resolve deficiencies sources within the facility that emit heat or are combustible, flammable, or make the building more susceptible to fire.

Adhere to Qatar Fire Regulations and NFPA standards.

Test your Fire Emergency Plan through conducting fire drills at defined frequency. Engage and ensure that all the building owners and occupants, plant operators, and emergency personnel are aware of the fire protection systems and can react accordingly.

Regularly train staff on fire prevention practices.

FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION“All fires, whether big or small, must be considered dangerous and acted upon immediately”!

Fire Protection

Investors must understand that having all the fire protection system installed at their facilities does NOT

guarantee a fire free workplace. Fire Protection within an area or facility relies on the well-maintained system

components to ensure that the effectiveness of the functionalities to detect and prevent fires and mitigate their

consequences. It also requires Investors to obtain licensed and reputable fire safety providers to install the appropriate

devices in compliance with QCS 2014, QCDD, NFPA and other applicable International Standards to make sure the

building, facility or equipment is in the best possible position to fight a blaze should a fire break out. Results of site-

specific Risk Assessment and/or HAZOP must be taken into account in the design and installation stages.

Monitored fire alarm systems signal the alarm monitoring center in the event of fire and provide early detection for a

quick action. Fire suppression devices, such as sprinkler systems and extinguishers, stop the spread of fire.

Fire Suppression Sprinkler Systems

(wet, dry, pre-action system, deluge,

antifreeze, and fire pumps).

Mass notification (notification

appliances, pull stations/call box

points).

Special Hazards Fire Suppression Systems

(foam-, low- and high-pressure CO2,

as well as clean agent systems).

Fire alarm detection system (control panel, flame detectors, heat

detectors, smoke detectors, carbon

monoxide detectors).

Fire alarm monitoring.

Integrated security, access control, and video surveillance

systems for appropriate actions from each system.

Fire extinguisher, fire hydrants, and

backflows.

In general, a full-fledged fire protection system includes:

• No facility is absolutely fireproof. Nearly everything can burn, by given ignition, adequate fuel, and sufficient Oxygen.

• Whether big or small, ALL FIRES are dangerous and must be taken seriously! There is NO EXEMPTION!

• Early detection of a Fire is absolutely essential! Fire and flame will spread in a building both vertically and horizontally.
