FROM THE SUPERVISOR’S DESK
Come spring into spring with us! March is a time for many celebrations at the Senior Center: Women’s History Month, St. Patrick’s Day and the Senior Center’s 46th Anniversary!
Calling All Caregivers… The Town of Huntington in partnership with NAIPC (National Aging in Place Council) will be presenting Thriving Along the Care Continuum - “Choices” Workshop Monday, March 9 from 10 am - Noon at the Cinema Arts Centre.
March is Women’s History Month, which honors the extraordinary achievements of American women. On Tuesday, March 24, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. There will be a screening of the film, Iron Jawed Angels, at the Cinema Arts Centre at 2 pm. Complimentary tickets will be available beginning Monday, March 9th (see flyer within).
In our Adult Day Care Program, there will be several Women’s History Programs including: Who Am I? Famous Women In History, International Women’s Day, Famous Women - Wheel of Fortune, and Biography of Dolly Parton.
We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Huntington’s 86th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 8. The Centerport Senior Beach House will be serving complimentary Irish Soda Bread on Sunday, March 15. On Tuesday, March 17, there will be a St. Patrick’s Day special Corned Beef and Cabbage meal at the Senior Center and an Irish Soda Bread contest in Adult Day Care.
Stay healthy by signing up for Cardio-Pulmonary Health Workshops Part 1 & Part 2 at the Senior Center on Wednesday, March 4 and March 11. In addition, there will be a Walking Safely Again: Fall Prevention presentation on Wednesday, March 18.
To celebrate the arrival of spring, join us for our Spring Fling Party with music and dance at the Senior Center on Friday, March 20. Don’t miss it!
I hope you enjoy the many celebrations over the next month.

HUDSON THEATRE TOUR W/ CARMINE’S
Tuesday – April 7, 2020 $125 Per Person
Bus departs at 8:00 am Sharp! (Includes: bus transportation, theatre tour, lunch, tour escorts, snacks & bottled water)
Journey back in time to 1903 and get a rare behind-the-scenes look at Broadway’s oldest
theater: The Hudson. This interior tour offers an exclusive view of the nooks and crannies of
this historic building, restored in 2017 to its original glory after decades of narrowly
avoiding demolition. Beginning in Times Square, you will be transported back to 1903 before
stepping inside Hudson Theatre. For over 100 years the theater's walls have
witnessed tragedy, gangsters, and legends who created iconic moments amid the glow
of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s original lighting. For an hour and forty-five minutes (with 1/3 of it
being seated) you will bask in stories told in the theatrical silence of an empty Broadway
theater – a rare, one-of-a-kind experience to peek behind the curtain on Broadway! Utilizing
iPads full of rarely seen photos and videos, you will witness Hudson Theatre's past and present
merge before your eyes.
Lunch follows the tour, at the original Carmine's Restaurant, opened in 1990. Carmine’s
features Southern Italian cuisine, served family style. Platters of pasta, entrees, and desserts
are all staples at Carmine's, meant for sharing amongst friends and family. Lunch includes
unlimited Soda & Iced Tea; House Salad; Garlic Bread; Rigatoni & Broccoli in Garlic & Olive Oil;
Penne ala Vodka; Chicken Parmigiana, followed by Chocolate Torta, Coffee, or Hot Tea. Rest
assured… No one leaves hungry! Bus returns to Huntington at approximately 5:30 pm.
BUS LEAVES FROM: Huntington Station Railroad parking lot at corner of Church Street and
New York Ave. You will be leaving your vehicles parked here, NOT at the Senior Center. You do
not need a Railroad parking permit on this day. Must arrive 7:30 am for roll call.

Bus departs at 9:00 am Sharp! (Includes bus transportation, house & property tours, lunch, tour escorts, snacks & bottled water)

Bayard Cutting Arboretum was donated to the Long Island State Park Region by Mrs. William
Bayard Cutting and her daughter, Mrs. Olivia James, in memory of William Bayard Cutting, “to
provide an oasis of beauty and quiet for the pleasure, rest and refreshment of those who
delight in outdoor beauty; and to bring about a greater appreciation and understanding of the
value and importance of informal planting.”
We begin with a 90-minute tour of the Manor House, including the second floor which is not
open to the public. Inside the former Cutting residence, you’ll find magnificent fireplaces,
woodwork and stained glass. Lunch is served onsite, featuring Victorian Tea (with 17
varieties), assorted Finger Sandwiches, Fresh Scones with Cream and Jam, Dessert and coffee,
if so desired.
After lunch, we continue with a 60-minute walking tour on the grounds of the Arboretum.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Local public transportation is available Monday through Saturday. The Town of Huntington’s HART system (631) 427-8287 and Suffolk County Transit (631) 852-5200 operate a network of regularly scheduled bus routes that serve many of the places seniors might want to travel, including the Senior Center. Buses are handicap accessible. Senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and Medicare cardholders are eligible to pay reduced fares.
Minibus service is also provided, at somewhat higher fares to persons who are prevented from using the regular buses because of a disability. This paratransit service is operated on a shared-ride, advance-request, curb-to-curb basis by HART (for rides entirely within the Town of Huntington) and Suffolk County’s SCAT program (for rides within Suffolk but not entirely within the Town). Both agencies require prior enrollment by application. Personal travel assistance is limited. HART also extends paratransit service, with reduced priority, to non-disabled senior citizen residents who do not drive and do not have access to regular buses. Paratransit is not offered as a more convenient alternative to regularly scheduled buses. For information, call HART at (631) 427-8287 (TTY: 800-662-1220) and SCAT at (631) 853-8337 (TTY:853-5658). Bus schedules are available at the Senior Center.
