The Golden Fellowship Dinner is the League's largest annual fundraiser and one of Chicago's premier fundraising events. Each year, the dinner draws more than 1,700 of the city's best-known business leaders, human rights advocates, philanthropist and elected leaders. This year's theme, Building On Our Legacy, pays homage to the community-based, economic empowerment organization's founding 100 years ago to assist southern Blacks who migrated north to find housing and employment. 45 CollegeBoundStudents fromthe ChicagoUrban Leaguerecognizedduring a "TrunkParty" Earlier this week, 45college boundstudents from theChicago UrbanLeague (CUL) wererecognized during a"Trunk Party" hostedand sponsored bySkadden, Arps,Slate, Meagher &Flom. The event tookplace at Skadden offices located in downtown Chicago at 155 N. Wacker Drive Chicago, IL 60606.The event included opening remarks and introductions by CUL President & CEO Shari Runner andSkadden representatives.

"If you think you are going to stumble, we will be there to pick you up. There is absolutely no chancethat we will not make sure that you succeed. We want to see you succeed," said Runner as sheaddressed the youth.

Following breakfast, a financial literacy workshop for the students was facilitated by Bank of America.There was also a panel discussion about the college experience which included current and recentcollege graduates and representatives from the Chicago Urban League and Skadden. The TrunkParty concluded with the presentation of the trunks filled with college supplies for college.

July Unemployment Numbers Unchanged at 4.9%; Voter Participation Will Help Determine Future Stats Says CUL Workforce Head

The Chicago Urban League's Workforce Development Director AndrewWells today issued the following statement in response to the Bureau ofLabor Statistics (BLS) July 2016 jobs report: " Th e July national unemployment rate remained at 4.9 percent.Unfortunately, the s tory for Chicago's African American community isalso the same with a heightened unemployment rate of more than 18percent coupled with scarce opportunities for upward movement in theworkplace. Twenty-sixteen is a critical year. We are witnessing one of the mosthistoric, unprecedented and unpredictable Presidential elections onrecord. 'We, the people' get to decide what type of futurewe want and who best can lead us to where we want to be, particularlyas it relates to the job market." Read more
