Andrew Bewes writes…Welcome to our 2017 wine tasting.
As a wine specialist, we are proud to have more than 700 wines on show. While we don’t expect you to taste everything, we have ensured there really is something for everyone: from the classic regions of the old and new world, to some exciting esoteric alternatives.
Our tasting is designed to help you prepare an unbeatable wine list for the coming year and to establish a point of difference from your competitors. We have assembled our teams, producers and winemakers from across the globe to guide you through each table’s unique offering and to ensure you taste the wines that are best suited to your business.
We look forward to sharing our passion and expertise with you today to help you shape your wine offering for the year ahead.

Steve Daniel writes…We are always looking for interesting new wines and producers to enhance our extensive range and have been busy over the past year looking for even more awesome producers to work with.
To complement our extensive Greek range and help fulfil the increasing demand for Greek wines, we have added three Cretan wines from Idaia Winery made from the island’s indigenous grape varieties. The wines are mineral, saline and intense and truly expressive of the terroir of Crete.
Southern Italy, in particular Sicily, is an area we have been looking at developing to provide our customers with a greater choice at a wider range of price points. We have taken on the boutique winery on Etna, Santa Maria La Nave and leading organic producer, Colomba Bianca, which do just that.
For some time we had been looking to extend our Australian offering to better showcase the regionality of the country and we have been lucky to find exactly what we were looking for in a group of premium Australian producers. Amelia Jukes (of the former Hallowed Ground) is here today showcasing the wines from clos Clare, Eden Road, Fox Gordon, Laissez Faire, Lake Breeze, Ocean Eight, Paringa Estate, Ravenswood Lane, Teusner and Ulithorne.
With the continuing buzz surrounding Argentina, we are really excited to start working with the Michelini brothers. Zorzal Wines from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley, is one of Argentina's most outstanding vine growing valleys with the talented Michelini brothers at the helm.
Boasting over 42 years’ experience, Olivier Ravier is one of the most iconic and respected winemakers in Beaujolais and we’re thrilled to be bringing his wines to the table today.

The Main Event:More than 700 wines on show from over 100 sensational producers, there really is something for everyone.
Wines by the Glass:Often the ‘go-to’ wines on a restaurant list, these have been selected for their purity of fruit, expressiveness and character. Taste our extensive range on the tables to your left as you enter the hall.
Wine Trails:Navigating your way through a fine collection of wines is no mean feat and it can be very easy to lose your way. For this reason, we have compiled a selection of thought-provoking wine trails to help you find your way around the room and taste wines that excite you.1. Natural WinesNatural, organic, biodynamic and sustainability are the current buzz words in the wine industry and are set to become front of mind for the consumer in 2017. This trail will open your eyes to the wines that are leading the way in natural wine production.2. Family EstatesThere is nothing more important than family, not just in life, but also in wine. These wines are produced by whole families, siblings, children and sometimes winemakers who can date their estate back generations. 3. Mediterranean WinesOur wines take you from the old world, to the new world, and even to the ancient world. The Mediterranean comprises some of the world’s oldest vines, growing some of the most unforgettable (and hardest to pronounce) grape varieties. This trail will guide you through öküzgözü, to agiorgitiko, to zibibbo. 4. New WinesSince our last Annual Portfolio Tasting we have added 100 new wines to our portfolio, with producers joining our list from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley, the slopes of Mount Etna and every corner of Australia. This trail will show you a handful of those you shouldn’t miss out on.
On the Mezzanine:Enjoy a coffee from Ristretto and take the weight off in the informal meeting space.
Lunch:Will be served in the North Annexe between 12.30 and 14.30.

Goring Estate 3
Dermot SugrueThe Goring Brut is made exclusively for us by Dermot Sugrue. It comes from the chalky soils of the South Downs in West Sussex which are not dissimilar to the vineyards of the Côtes de Blancs in Champagne. Previously at Nyetimber, he moved to Wiston Estate in 2006 to work with the Goring of West Sussex and we have been working with him since then on his own projects.

Sugrue Pierre 3
Dermot SugrueSugrue-Pierre is the personal project of celebrated English sparkling winemaker Dermot Sugrue. Sugrue has been the winemaker behind many of England’s best sparkling wines over the last 10 years. Previously the winemaker at Nyetimber, he left in 2006 to establish the Wiston Estate Winery with the Gorings of West Sussex.

Giorgio PancieraAntonio Carpené founded his winery in 1868. A qualified chemist, in contact with Pasteur and Koch, he was convinced that a wine as good as Champagne could be produced in Italy. He applied his knowledge to the Prosecco grape (now known as Glera), the majestic variety of the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene zone. Over 130 years of history are testament to Carpené Malvolti’s dedication to quality.

Pascal BatotThe Dopff family has been wine growers since 1574 and today two generations manage the 70 hectare estate near Riquewihr. The vineyards are more than 300 metres above sea level, nestled in the foothills of the lower-Vosges, well sheltered from the northerly winds and the rain from the west. The southerly exposure and favourable microclimate lend themsleves to the art of producing excellent wine.

Bernard ChereauChéreau-Carré is one of the leading Muscadet producers with substantial family owned vineyards in some of the best locations in the region. Their vineyard area totals 108 hectares of the highest quality soil, making them one of the largest producers of Muscadet. The vineyards contain different types of soils —pebble and clay— at widely varying altitudes, which, together with intensive sun exposure and low rainfall, define the vineyards of Aldeanueva, offering great potential for quality grapes, characterized by their intense colour, medium-high alcohol and great health. The growers of this area produce the Hugonell Joven. The Ondarre winery, 10km from Logrono, the Riojas capital, is the specialist division of The Bodegas Olarra Group for producing Crianza and Reserva wines. The Bodegas Olarra Group has worked for years at the forefront of wine producing initiatives. We work with Olarra/Ondarre on Hugonell Crianza and Reserva.
