Appalachian State fans are used to seeing a player with the surname “Hillary” at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

They were used to seeing CoCo Hillary, a quarterback-turned-receiver, who played at Appalachian State from 2007-10. He is sixth in ASU receiving history with 140 career receptions. He also has 1,906 career receiving yards and is Appalachian State’s all-time career leader with 97 kickoff re-turns and 2,301 kickoff-return yards.

There is a new Hillary playing college football, CoCo’s brother Aramis Hillary. He is the Coastal Carolina quarterback, who will lead the Chanticleers into Kidd Brewer Stadium today. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.

Aramis Hillary averages 302.5 yards in total offense, which is fi rst in the Big South and ninth in the FCS. He passes for an aver-age of 281.8 yards per game and is third behind Tyler Thigpen and Zach MacDowell in career total yards at Coastal Carolina.

Coastal Carolina’s passing game is ranked 15th in the nation at 288.8 yards per game.

“He’s a terrifi c quarterback with a great arm and he’s a good runner,” Mountaineers coach Jerry Moore said. “He and CoCo are tough football players who everybody likes to coach.”

Hillary transferred to Coastal Carolina from South Carolina in 2008.

PRICE WAS RIGHTAppalachian State receiver Sean Price

caught 10 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns in the Mountaineers’ 34-17 vic-tory over Chattanooga last Saturday.

Price caught touchdown passes of 36 and 14 yards, both in the fourth quarter. He said that the Chattanooga crowd helped motivate him.

“Their fans were talking a lot of junk,” Price said following the game. “They were saying that I (stunk) and all of which you can imagine fans saying. My favorite job is to upset opposing fans. My home fans are always going to be happy. If I beat some-body away, fans are going to have a sad night.”

SERIES HISTORYAppalachian State beat Coastal Carolina

in both games the teams played. The Moun-taineers took a 30-0 halftime lead in the fi rst meeting before winning 30-3 in 2005. Appalachian State followed with a 45-28 victory in the rematch, which was in the 2006 FCS playoffs.

Appalachian State took a 31-0 halftime lead, meaning in the two games, the Moun-taineers have outscored Coastal Carolina 61-0 in the fi rst halves of both games.

Both games were played at The Rock.

ASU RESULTSThe Mountaineers (2-2) shrugged off a

52-28 home loss to The Citadel the week-end before (Sept. 22) beating the Mocs. Ap-palachian State went into the fourth quarter

of its game with the Mocs tied 10-10 before scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter.

The Mountaineers also lost 35-13 to East Carolina on Sept. 1, and beat Montana 35-27 at Kidd Brewer on Sept. 8

COASTAL RESULTSCoastal Carolina comes into Kidd Brewer

Stadium with a 2-2 record, but with a two-game losing streak.

The Chanticleers led FBS program Toledo 21-17 in the third quarter, and trailed 31-28 late in the fourth quarter before Coastal Carolina fell 38-28. A week earlier, Coastal lost 35-17 to then-No. 20 Eastern Kentucky.

Coastal Carolina opened its season with a 29-13 victory over North Carolina A&T, and followed with a 47-45 triple-overtime win over Furman.

ASU VS. BIG SOUTHAppalachian State has won its last 15

games over Big South teams, including the two over Coastal Carolina. The Mountain-eers’ last game over a Big South team was a 48-14 win over Presbyterian on Sept. 27, 2008 at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

The Mountaineers’ last loss to a Big South team was a 25-19 setback to Liberty in 1997.

AVOIDING 2003Should Coastal Carolina beat ASU, it

would leave the Mountaineers with a 2-3 record. It would be the fi rst time ASU would slip below the .500 mark this late in the sea-son since 2003.

It would also be the fi rst time that the Mountaineers would lose two straight home games since 1996.

Appalachian State’s Sean Price (14) caught 10 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns in the Mountaineer’s 34-17 win over UTC. STEVE BEHR | WATAUGA DEMOCRAT
