There has been shock and outrage at the new Conservative government’s threats to the Human Rights Act. 22% of under-16s live in poverty in Bolton

In Bolton 22 per cent of under-16s live in poverty, although the figures have dropped in recent years its still a total of 12,770 youngsters across the borough living in poverty. More than 100 under-17s were admitted to hospital as a result of mental health conditions in 2013 and 2014. 283 10-24 year olds in the borough were taken to hospital because of self harm in the same period. At any one time, roughly one in six of us is experiencing a mental health problem. Issues like these are typical in a society

where there is a vast gulf between rich and poor. Crime levels are associated with both illness and poverty. 12billion in cuts to the welfare and benfits budget are only going to make issues like mental health worse. There is a commissioning and planning group meeting 10th September which is aimed at preventing suicide in young adults, additionally Im working with All Souls Bolton to set up a dementia reminiscing society, if you would like to help us set up the society or attend the meeting please contact me on [email protected] or 01204 846 792.
