GENERAL REMARKS CONCERNING THE METHOD OF ASSEMBLING STAIRS

The following instructions provide help in proper selection of all stairs parameters and tools and is a guidebook

describing step-by-step a self-assembly of modular stairs ASTA of TLC company (pages 2 - 12). You will find here

also guidelines concerning safety of assembly and operating conditions as well as technical parameters (pages 14

    and 15).

BEFORE THE ASSEMBLYGo through the entire instructions and become acquainted with every stage of the assembly and manufacturer’s

recommendations. It will allow you to prepare all necessary tools before you start the assembly. Make sure that

you have obtained all elements. The easiest way is to compare the obtained packages with tables containing the

list of elements depending on the number of stairs. Everything was packed and described in order to facilitate you

    finding right element.

Before you start the assembly, make sure that you are well rested and in good health. People under the influence of

alcohol are not allowed to perform the assembly. During the assembly you should strictly observe manufacturer’s

recommendations as well as health and safety regulations (page 14).

INTENDED USE AND EXPLOITATION OF MODULAR STAIRS

Modular stairs ASTA are intended both for living (living room, staircases) ant utility spaces (garages, cellars,

workshops). ASTA stairs may be used also as external stairs in gardens, access to the higher floor or terrace

being at higher level. Stairs are not adapted for use in rooms where the presence of big groups of children without

supervision is expected and in buildings intended for people with disabilities.

Modular stairs ASTA should be used in accordance with their intended use as the element of a building or the shape

of the land, which allows communication between different levels.

    GENERAL MANUFACTURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS

Modular stairs ASTA should be installed in accordance with assembly instructions and only with the use of original

parts provided individually for every module. Only this kind of assembly allows long and safe utilisation and gives

    the manufacturer’s warranty.

Manufacturer of modular stairs ASTA is not responsible for:

    • use of elements of ASTA stairs in other structures• stairs assembled with the use of other elements than those provided and recommended by the Manufacturer• stairs assembles not in accordance with the Manufacturer’s Instructions.

    ATTENTION!

    • In the case of the assembly of stairs with parallel run towards the wall, there should be provided an appropriate space between the railing and this wall. Due to safety reasons, it is recommended that the space between the

railing and the wall was 50 mm wide.

    • Stairs must be installed with railings (on both sides). Except the cases where the stairs are installed against the wall. It is allowed then to install only one railing, but in order to ensure the appropriate rigidity and strength of

the structure, the stairs should anchored to the wall. You can find more information on page 11.

    • Railings of the stairs are mounted on the stairs of more than three steps.• Number of steps in one run of stairs should not be higher than 14.

ASSEMBLING BEAMS BEDDING ANCHORS IN A WALL AND FIXING LEFT BEAM

Main elements of the stairs consist of two side beams composed of modules 3, 5, 7 (left beam) and 4, 6, 8 (right beam). You should assembly the beams together on flat surface, in order to ensure right placing of the elements. At this stage you should use fasteners D, J, M and G, and while assembling comply with dimension S from the previously determined height of the stairs.Drawing presents the manner of installation of the left beam. Installation of the right beam should be done in an analogous manner.

To both assembled beams you should screw

feet 1 and 2 (left and right). At this stage, for

    all connections use fasteners C, I, L and F.

Drawing presents the manner of installation

of the left foot. Installation of the right foot

should be done in an analogous manner.

ark on a wall the points where left and right beam will be fixed according to the presented diagram. After bedding anchors, anchor the assembled beam in the target place (detail A). While screwing make sure that beams modules are placed vertically. You can verify the right position of the beam using a level.

ATTENTIONWalls and floor may be made of various types of materials, which requires using appropriate fixing materials

    - mechanic and chemical. You can obtain assistance concerning the selection of anchors in a technical specialty

    store.

Stairs manufacturer ASTA recommends using anchors M12 of anchorage depth of 130mm. Anchors should

be bedded in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. In the case where stairs are assembled to steel

elements, you should use screws M12 in class 8.8 and spring washer.

Stairs should be anchored to a stable ground allowing the use of the anchor 130mm long. In the place of

anchoring in a wall, you should ensure a firm support for the end module. It is not permitted to screw an end

module directly to the elevation made of insulation materials such as Styrofoam, wool etc.

If you decide to install stairs to the wall covered with elevation, cut out a fragment of insulation and use an

intermediary installation element (channel, closed profile) of dimensions corresponding to insulation layers. In

case of any doubts ask an expert.

FIXING RIGHT BEAM AND INSTALLING STEPS

Right beam should be screwed to the wall with screws left slightly loose, in order to allow adjustment (detail B). After the installation of left and right beam, install steps, remembering to screw them with one screw (detail C). At this stage you should use fasteners B, H, K and E. Start with the installation of three steps: at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of stairs (as in the drawing below), which will allow you to make the structure more rigid and will facilitate the installation of remaining steps. Because the stairs will be later anchored at the base, first step should be installed only after screwing the stairs to the ground. After installation of the stairs (apart from the first step), tighten screws fixing the right beam to the wall, while verifying and making adjustments in the position of stairs. Make sure that the steps are placed horizontally, and feet of both beams stand firmly on the ground. You can verify the levelling of the steps with a level.

FIXING STAIRS TO THE GROUND AND INSTALLATION OF THE BEAMS

Sliding a drill through oblong holes in stairs feet, drill holes for anchors in the ground. Before you decide where drill the holes, make sure that the beams of the stairs are placed perpendicularly towards the wall. Then bed the anchors in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and screw the feet. If there is 10 or more steps, you must install additionally grips for cables 14 and 15 (detail D). You will find the following manner of cables installation on the next page.

Screw railings (9 and 10) to every step, except from the first one. Upper railing screw is also second screw fixing a step. For the installation of the railing use fasteners A, H, K and E and saddle washers 13 (detail E). While installing the railing on the subsequent steps, screw them together using fasteners 12 (detail F). Try not to move tightened fasteners, because it may result in the damage to the paint coating.

ATTENTIONUnder no circumstances enter the stairs before the completion of the installation. Only after screwing all

elements and proper anchoring of the stairs, the structure guarantees the safety of use. Entering the stairs

during the installation may result in the occurrence of serious accident, and may permanently damage the

    structure.

ATTENTIONIt is allowed to install the stairs next to the wall with one railing. In such case you should additionally anchor the stairs using holes destined to the installation of the railing. The stairs should be anchored: in third module from the bottom and in third module from the top, and, depending on the number of steps, in every third module. For anchoring we recommend anchors M8 100mm long. While installation and assembling the railings, make sure that they are placed in one line. Railings are carrying element of the ASTA stairs and their proper installation has a considerable impact on the rigidity of the structure.

INSTALLATION OF FIRST STEP AND STIFFENING BRACINGS

In the case where there is 10 or more steps, it is necessary to install bracings in the form of cables 14 and 15. At the previous stage, you screwed lower grips for the cables to the feet of the stairs. Cross the cables below the stairs and fix upper grips to the seventh modules under screw D and washer J (detail G). Stretch the cables evenly with Roman screws. The installation of bracings is necessary and improves the rigidity and stability of the stairs.

The last stage is the installation of the first step. For the installation use fasteners B, H, K and E (detail H).

ATTENTIONAfter finishing the correct installation of stairs you should perform an inspection of the structure. You should

    check:

    • tightening of all screw connections

    • correctness of the installation of anchors to the existing structure

    • correctness of the installation of fasteners 12 to the posts (railings)

It’s high time to admire your new stairs and yourself as well. In the end, the self-assembly of ASTA stairs allowed you

to save some money. With proper servicing and regular inspections, your new stairs will be there for you for many

    years.

Before you start using the stairs vacuum them with a soft vacuum attachment and wipe with a damp cloth remaining

dust. Wooden elements of the stairs should be preserved only with substances intended for this purpose. Before

using a preserving substance, make a test on a small, hidden surface. Do not use any diluents, removers, rinse aid and

strong detergents etc. It is forbidden to leave on stairs excessive amount of water or other substances, because it may

    permanently damage the structure.
