PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As a parish community united in Jesus and dedicated to Mary,

We are called to discipleship through worship and service.

Fifth Sunday of Easter—April 29, 2018 Father Mike’s Musings

I congratulate our young parishioners who have been fully initiated as Catholics by Confirmation on April 15th. I am confident you might all consider my invitation about being a nursery helper (Sr. Diane will rejoice!) or an altar server (Deacon Eric will rejoice!) I congratulate our First Communicants who are so enthusiastic about their receiving Jesus for the first time. I count on you to teach your parents and our parishioners how special Holy Communion is all the time! I share my related thought “on the heels” of my last column about the “nones” whom I think about and feel for often. In April 19ths reading from the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 8:26-40), the Apostle Philip encountered an Ethiopian eunuch whom he baptized. This account showed three simple steps which Philip took which engaged the new Christian. Philip CARED enough to converse with the eunuch; he then ASKED him a question concerning his understanding of a passage from Isaiah. Philip then LISTENED to the eunuch and helped him to better know the passage as referring to Jesus. Philip then proclaimed Jesus to him and the eunuch asked to be baptized. For our reflection, could our imitating Philip be helpful to others who, in knowing Jesus, may choose to recommit as a Christian or be baptized? Peace and love, Father Mike

A Tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary

All parishioners are cordially invited to Assumption BVM tribute to our patroness, the Blessed Virgin Mary on Mother's Day, May 13th. As in the past years, we will start promptly at 10:30 AM with songs of praise by some of our very own talented members, i.e. Fr. Mike, Fr. Kelly, and Deacon Eric just to mention a few. Followed by a procession and her crowning, Mass will be at the regular time of 11 AM. One additional note: If you arrive after 10:30 in order to not disrupt the ceremony in her honor, the ushers will direct you to enter through the side doors only, and as quietly as possible. In our Blessed Mother’s name, thank you for your cooperation.

Attention all Extraordinary Ministers, Lectors, & Altar Servers….

Preference Forms for the next few months are now due. Please check your email for the form or pick one up in the Sunday Sacristy. They are due back no later than June 4th. Thank you.

Poor Box Donations

Father Joe Devlin, Father William Murphy, and Sister Ann Raymond, IHM, who direct the Mother of Mercy House, thank our parish for the $548.00 donation from the March 2018 Poor Box collection.

Family Promise of Lower Bucks

Just as spring is a time for rebirth, Family Promise of Lower Bucks (a non-profit 501©3 is closer to once again fulfilling its mission of bringing the local faith-based community together to assist homeless families with children to regain their housing and their independence. At a recent “town hall” meeting, it was announced that funding has been stabilized and candidates for Executive Director are being interviewed. The final area of need is volunteers. Before FPLB went on hiatus in 2017, many Assumption parishioners had expressed support for us becoming a “host congregation.” As such, we would provide the children and their families (up to 14 people) overnight lodging and meals for one week several times during the summer months when the ABVM school building is not being used. Although God’s timing for this project was not the same as ours, we hope to re-energize our parish to move forward. As we begin the next part of this journey, please visit www.fplb.org for information (including links to getting free volunteer clearances) and check the bulletin and Facebook for additional details. We have scheduled a FPLB volunteer training session at ABVM on Sunday, May 6th at 2 PM in the school. More details will be shared when they become available. All are welcome. If you are not already on our email list from last year or would like more infor-mation, please contact Rose Jacobs at 215-364-8131 or [email protected]

Re-Imagining Your Life for Women (50+) An overnight retreat is being held on Thursday, May 3, from 5 PM to Friday, May 4th, 5 PM at the Cranaleith Spiritual Center in Philadelphia.
