October 2008-Date. Associate Professor in Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine, Ajman University.

Duties Include:

• Lecturing and clinical teaching Undergraduates in Oral Surgery and Oral • Medicine and General Surgery.

• Leading Research Projects for Undergraduates and junior GDPs.

• Treating Oral Surgical/ Implantology patients in the Consultant clinic.

• Cases treated at Ajman: third molar removal, surgical coronectomy, impacted canine exposure-bonding and removal, insertion of implants, bone grafting, enucleation of cysts, excision or oral, facial and skin lesions, FNA, biopsies, TMJ-Facial-arthromylagia, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Root apicectomies and repair of resorption and perforation defects, Closure of oro-antral and Oro-nasal fistulas, uvuloplatoplasty for sleep-apnea cases, surgically assisted maxillary expansion and treatment of patients with various oral mucosal diseases.

• Writing up publications and research grant applications.

• Director of Staff Development scheme in the faculty of Dentistry.

• Lecture and Clinical Teaching of Oral Surgery to undergraduate students in years 3,4 and 5.

• Teaching Local anesthesia and sedation to year 3 and 4 students.

• The lead Oral Surgery teacher for the final year students.

• Clinical examiner for final year BDS students.

• Supervision the SHOs and junior dentists and leader for the clinical service in the Acute Dental Care department.

college Hospital (A&Es, Maxillofacial trauma, Orthognathic Surgery, Oral Surgery).

• February 2006-August 2006.SHO in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital (A&Es, Head and Neck Oncology, Salivary Gland Surgery, Oral Surgery).

• January 2005- February 2006.Clinical Assistant/ Clinical Teacher in Acute Dental Care, King’s College Hospital My duties included supervision and teaching undergraduates, providing treatment for patients and managing the clinical service in the department.

• January 2005 – September 2005, As a part of my PhD project, I was doing

three soft tissue surgery sessions a week. Cases include various oral biopsies and surgical excision of potentially-malignant oral lesions at King’s college Hospital.

• September 1998–November 2001, Registrar in Oral and

Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Garyounis University, Benghazi, Libya. I was performing minor surgical procedures including most of the Dento-alveolar surgeries under local and general anesthesia such as impacted wisdom teeth, endodontic, preprosthetic surgery and biopsies.-I was also involved in the clinical teaching of undergraduates and supervision of dental interns in the department. Ward duties included Clerking assisting and operating in major surgical cases that include maxillofacial trauma, odontogenic tumours and cysts cases, Tempromandibular joint ankylosis and few cases of cancer, orthognathic surgery and maxillofacial Distraction Osteogenesis. On Call duties 1 in 2. At Aljalla Hospital (the main Emergency, Accidents and Surgery hospital in Benghazi and eastern part of Libya).

• August 2000-October 2000 and August 2001-October 2001: joined to the oral

and maxillofacial surgery unit at Nasser Institute- Cairo (one of the major referral centers in Egypt-about 900 beds,20 operation theatres). I worked as a registrar to Prof.Hatem El-Mekkawi where I was involved in on calls, assessment and preparation of patients for surgery, assisting in many trauma cases, orthognathic surgery, and distraction osteogenesis. I was allowed to perform some surgical procedures under supervision such as facial trauma, various osteotomies, insertion and activation of various distractors (uniaxial, biaxial, bone transport) as well as bimaxillay distraction. I was also involved in many day surgery lists including various dentoalveolar surgery.

• October 1995 - September 1998. Senior house officer from at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty of Dentistry,

Garyounis University, Benghazi, Libya. I was involved in the Extraction clinic and minor oral surgery under LA. I was also attending and assisting at some operations under general anesthesia, as well as in the on call duties at the same hospital.

• December 1994 - October 1995. I was employed as a General

dental practitioner in the Main Disabled Center in Benghazi. My duties were to deliver dental services under local anesthesia mainly dental extraction,

conservative dentistry, and periodontal treatment and also to assess and refer those handicapped patients that require oral surgery under general anesthesia.

• October 1993 - October 1994. This period was an internship rotational

program held at the Faculty of Dentistry, Garyounis University Benghazi including the following departments: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, in Removable Prosthodontics, Fixed Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, Endodontic, Periodontology, Peadodontics, Orthodontics, Oral Medicine, Radiology and Preventive & Community Dentistry.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

During the period between 2003 and 2006 I was extensively involved in a research project leading to a PhD degree of the University of London. The project consists from three main sections:

1. Isolation and growth of oral dysplastic cells in different conditions and establishment of three dimensional preclinical models of oral cancer and precancer.

2. Testing of gene therapy for selective destruction of oral precancer. 3. Testing a novel anti-angiogenesis agent to eliminate residual oral cancer

lesions.

Research skills:

a. Tissue culture techniques including enzymatic and explant methods for isolation of oral keratinocytes and fibroblasts.

b. Engineering in vitro models for oral mucosa (normal, dysplastic and neoplastic).

c. Manual processing of tissues. d. Freezing and cutting of cryostat sections. e. Immunohistochemistry f. The use of Conditionally Replicating Adenovirus for selective destruction of

Completed IT courses at King’s College London on information retrieval, poster design, handling of long documents, statistical and data handling soft wares. Working with colleagues to establish a society linking Libyan doctors working in Europe and North America with their local colleagues and authorities at home.
