Summer training at the Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata (2007-2011)
I have supervised 14 postgraduate summer trainee from leading Universities and Institutes of
India like Indian Institute of Technology, Indian School of Mines and Calcutta University since
2007. I taught them basic principles of field sedimentology, sedimentary facies analysis,
experimental sedimentology and conducted several field schools of 3-4 days duration in the
coastal tracts of the Bay of Bengal and Precambrian terrain of Singhbhum to teach and
demonstrate the process-product relationship in Sedimentary geology and stratigraphy. Details
of such training are available in the Dean’s office, Indian Statistical Institute Calcutta. Some of
the students are well placed in industries (Coal India Limited, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation
India, Geological Survey of India), involved in doctoral research in leading Indian Institutes in
India (Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Statistical Institute) and abroad (Pennsylvania State
University, University of Alberta, University of Sussex, UK).
