Associate Pastor for Adult Faith Formation Job Description

Reports to: Pastor Supervises: Interns Relates to: Board of Christian Education & Spiritual Formation, Board of Missions Job Summary: This minister is responsible in planning, implementing, and supporting the

church’s ministries to adults. She or he will oversee these ministries by creating a planned, documented approach that nurtures adult formation of faith and understanding of God’s mission in the world and integrates these ministries within the church such that all persons see themselves as beloved of God and River Road Church, Baptist.

Primary Duties:

• Encourage faith formation in adults through personal devotion (study, spiritual practices, etc.), small group opportunities, retreats, and regular involvement in the faith community.

• Build relationships with adults and prospective members of the church through communication, Bible study, recreation, outings, etc.

• In partnership with the Board of Christian Education & Spiritual Formation (BCE&SF), oversee Sunday morning and Wednesday evening educational programs for adults, including selection of educational materials.

• Identify and enlist Sunday School teachers in partnership with BCE&SF and Nominating Committee.

• Provide for teacher training, either through retreats, workshops, or guest speakers. • Facilitate worship planning meetings, in collaboration with Pastor and Minister of Music,

to create reverent and creative worship experiences according to the liturgical year. • Alongside other pastoral staff, assist Pastor and Minister of Pastoral Care with care

ministries, including occasional hospital visits, visitation, and/or workshops to address stages of life issues.

• In partnership with the Board of Missions, provide coordination (communication, recruitment, support) to our robust missions ministry at RRCB in order to encourage involvement in local and global mission partnerships. This shall help parishioners understand the role of mission in faith formation.

• Serve as staff liaison to church boards and committees as assigned. Qualifications:

• Minimum M.Div degree (or equivalent). • Commitment to collaborative and creative ministry and a flexible work environment. • Relevant experience in a church or ministry setting. • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. • Computer proficiency skills (including use of social media).
