Associate Fellows are one of the opportunities to recognize your peers for:
“Persons who have accomplished or been in charge of important engineering or scientific work, or who have done work of outstanding merit or have
otherwise made outstanding contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology or aeronautics or astronautics”
Purpose and Eligibility
· Member of AIAA· Senior Member > 12 Months· Professional experience > 12 years

· Nomination by any member in good standing – no self-nominations

Nomination Criteria
Nominations are due by April 15th
· Three references are required of Associate Fellow or higher

· Value Judgment (How good is the nominee and how well do you know them)· Contribution Ranking (How much has the nominee contributed to the field)· Specific accomplishments· Where does the nominee stand relative to recognized leaders in the field· Nominee's impact on the field of engineering, science or society· If contributions have been a team effort, what are specific nominee contributions

References are due by May 15th
Scoring Criteria
Scores > 60 may be considered for associate fellow.

· Nominations are open from December 15 – April 15· Nominations are due - April 15th

· AIAA receives nominations and removes unqualified and incomplete nominations
· Nominations are split and sent to Regional Review Committees· Review Committees are five AIAA members
Associate Fellow and higher· All five members score the application· High and low scores are thrown out and other
three averaged· AIAA reviews scoring and makes final
selections
Nomination Evaluation
· Technical: Describe accomplishments.· Leadership: Technical Leadership, Project
Management, Program Management, Corporate, Political
· AIAA Participation· Involvement can be at section, region or national
level. Includes conference participation.· AIAA Participation improves chances of a
nomination approval.· Professional Society Participation
Elements
· Do’s· If you don’t know the nominee well, get to know the nominee,
be able to give insight to the nominee’s accomplishments.· Speak highly of the nominee.· Speak of the nominee, not yourself· Be able to rate nominees high· Be consistent
· Don’ts· Don’t agree to be a reference if not willing to put in the work
to be a good one· Do not start reference letter, “I don’t know the nominee,
but…”· Do not copy references verbatim.
