Assignments 12 MEC1011

AutoCAD 2D-Modeling

You will be assigned (2) isometric drawings from the handout.

1. Use the scales on the sheets to determine general sizes.

2. Work in either metric or imperial units. You will want to commit to the units when you start the drawing as there are a series of attributes preset for each standard.

3. The goal is to have the 3 orthographic views of each isometric part.

4. The commands and structures you will have to deal with in AutoCAD are:

1. Layers

You will have to create the following layers

NAMELINETYPECOLOR

1. Object

Continuous Red

2. HiddenHiddenGreen

3. Centerline CenterlineMagenta

4. DimensionContinuous Blue

5. ConstructionContinuous White

2. OSnaps (Object Snaps)

1. Settings and use

3. Polar Snaps

1. Settings and use

4. Direct distance entry

5. OTrack (Object Snap Tracking)

METHOD OF APPROACH

1. Begin by creating a yourname folder on V:/MEC/Assignment 12/TXA.

2. Use the fold method of laying out the 3 views. (See example) This requires that you preset the polar snap to 45°. Use OTrack to project your geometry where possible. You will be working in all three views as you input your information.

3. Each linetype will occupy its own layer. You may draw all on 1 layer and move the lines to the appropriate layer or you may change layers on the fly.

4. Nothing should remain on the “0” layer when you are done.

5. In Assignment 13 you will make a complete working drawing of the object.

Make the 3 orthographic views of one of these

Scale isn’t critical but make the proportions close.
