ABOUT THE BOOK

The book is a narration of the experiences in building the largest retail chain of India in a span of mere 8-10 years.

Its success brought various international awards, but more than that it created a whole new culture in India. A reader would be tempted to keep reading about the various innovations, bad or good, that were undertaken and the thoughts behind them.

SUMMARY

The book projects the ideologies behind setting up a business from scratch that nobody else dared to dream of. The book is not just an autobiography of a man to be idolised but the story of an ordinary man who made extraordinary things happen.

It dares the younger generation to dream, and courage to aspire that we can create and change things.

He re- iterated the fact that it is essential to keep business simple whilst breaking the family mould and conventional methods of conducting business.

His crucial learning from ‘Made in America’ was the necessity to be merchandise-driven, rather than operations-driven

REVIEW

The book oversimplifies the whole business a bit too much for the reader to grasp the complexities of the business environment, that too, in a sector which is otherwise dominated by the unorganized players.

. It misses that investigative journalistic touch and the business details. Perhaps if an independent author had written a book instead of Kishore Biyani himself, assisted by a writer, he might have done a better job.

Having said that, the book does give glimpses of the Indian Retail scenario. And even the brief insights are quite a delight to read.
