What I learnt from this film:

• Teenagers killed off one by one

• Villain is ghost of past friend who committed suicide

• Entirely shot through screen capture software (made to look like POV)

Highly immersive POV shots make viewer feel like they are in the skype call.

Tension builds up through the use of anonymous messages. All characters die in gruesome ways.

Cabin in the woods

What I learnt form this film:

• Typical Scooby doo like cast with typical characters

• Typical horror movie setting

• Characters being hunted by a lot of different villains

Typical group, Jock, Cheerleader, Loner, virgin, nerd.

Gory deaths with multiple villains and monsters.

Monsters being controlled by a secret underground organisation.

The grudge

What I learnt from watching this film:

• Set in a creepy house in the middle of urban Japan

• Creepy children who embody a curse

• People who encounter the ghost of the house are forced to kill themselves because of curse

Typical creepy haunted location that is associated with housing the curse

Naïve American takes up job of looking after woman who lives in the house despite being warned that house is cursed

Creepy children who where murdered by their father embody the curse

Fright night (2011)

What I learnt from watching this film:

• Usually a creepy nerd kid who knows a lot about vampires

• Main vampire tends to be all powerful, servants only somewhat

• Focuses a lot around religious imagery

Vampire is the embodiment of an alpha male. Shows strength

Religious imagery reinforces idea of vampires being satanic

Vampire all dressed in black, represents evil and darkness

Satanic

What I learnt from this film:

• A lot of satanic and religious imagery

• Group are purposefully trying to summon demons

• A lot of rituals and cult activity

Typical use of a Ouija board, use of ritual activity trying to summon a demon.

Cult activity further enforces idea Of satanic ritualism being evil and Anti Christian.

Pentagram heavily religious symbol, relates to Satanism.
