If you are looking at a section of a narrative, what function does this section have for the narrative? (Think about the whole)

18 yr. old Jamal, former street child from the slums, entered the Indian version of Who wants to be a millionaire, One more question to answer till the grand price

Jamal was suspected of cheating and is detained and interrogated

Jamal tells, through flashbacks, the incidents in life that help answers the questions

Jamal had a difficult childhood, his mother killed in front of him in a raid.

Jamal and his brother Salim supported each other.

He met a girl, Latika whom he fell in love with, but lost. He only entered the game show because she might be watching it, in hoping of being reunited with her.

Jamal correctly answers each of the questions.Despite being given the wrong answer by the host.

Salim tell Latika to run away, so she did with his car keys and phone.

Jamal is on his final question, he calls his brother but Salim doesn’t pick up.

Latika realises that Jamal was calling Salim so she runs to answer it.

Jamal answers the question right, so he wins the games show and he is also reunited with Latika.
