Search Minerals, by way of its wholly owned subsidiary Alterra Resources Inc., owns 41 claims within

license 17997M, located along St. Lewis Bay, approximately 21 kilometres southeast of Port Hope

Simpson. This license was staked in October 2010 for Rare Earth Element (REE) exploration. This report

documents the work conducted on license 17997M in the 2012 exploration season.

-5- 78'9%8+:&;'<"+='*&"*>&?<<%,,&

The claims are located in southeastern Labrador, approximately 21 km southeast of the community of Port

Hope Simpson (Figure 1). Highway 510, an all-season gravel roadway linking Port Hope Simpson with

larger communities such as Happy Valley-Goose Bay, is near license 17997M, lying about 2 km away from

the western boundary of the license. The town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is located approximately 300

km west-northwest and has helicopter services. Walking along the shore of the St. Lewis Inlet provides the

easiest access to the claims, however the far eastern boundary of the license is 9 km away, and reaching this

location is more efficient by boat. The entirety of this property can be covered on foot. The property is

located on NTS map sheet 03D/05 and 13A/08.

'

-5@&7A:,='B8"9A:&

Low-lying hills, broad river valleys, abundant mid-boreal forests, and minor to moderate exposed outcrop

characterize the St. Lewis area. Most of license 17997M covers the St. Lewis Inlet, with about 65% of the

property consisting of water, with the remaining 35% covering both the northern and southern shoreline.

There are a variety of streams and bogs that empty into the St. Lewis Inlet. Elevation on this license ranges

from sea level to 170 m, with the higher areas found in the steep, southern portion. Except for the rocky

shoreline, most of the property is heavily forested with thick spruce and balsam, and lesser alders, poplar,

tamarack, and aspen. Visible outcrop is minimal due to the woods, however adequate exposure is found

along the shoreline.

No previous work was completed directly on this license. Exploration work in the surrounding area has been

primarily focused on development of the sapphire showing called “Rockhopper 8” (MODS

013A/08/Gem001). Gower (1987) originally discovered Rockhopper 8 during a regional mapping program.

Labrador geology is comprised of five Precambrian provinces: the Archean Nain and Superior

Provinces, the Paleoproterozoic Churchill and Makkovik Provinces, and the Mesoproterozoic to

Neoproterozoic Grenville Province (Wardle et al., 1997 and references therein). The provinces are divided

on the basis of structural trends, metamorphic criteria, and geochronologic data (Gower et al., 1980 and

references therein).

65-&1%B='*"$&L%'$'B:&

The Grenville Province comprises the majority of Labrador, stretching from the southern coast and

extending northwards past Groswater Bay, where the Grenville front truncates the other provinces and

marks the northern limit of Grenvillian deformation (Gower, 1996; Greene, 1974). The Port Hope Simpson-

Mary’s Harbour area occupies a geologically complex position within the Grenville Province, with

associations linked to three lithotectonic blocks: from north to south, the Lake Melville, Mealy Mountains,

and Pinware terranes (Gower, 1996, 2005). Differing geology, structural history, and levels of

metamorphism distinguish the terranes. Each terrane is separated from another by a major fault zone

(Gower et al., 1987, 1988).

The Lake Melville terrane is up to 60 km wide, but as one moves SE, towards the claim area, it

becomes much narrower and more strongly deformed (Gower, 1996). The most characteristic lithology in

the Lake Melville terrane is K-feldspar megacrystic granitoids associated with metasedimentary gneisses;

also present are granitoid gneisses and layered mafic to anorthositic rocks (Gower, 1996; Gower et al.,

1987, 1988, 1994). The boundary between the Lake Melville terrane and the southern-lying Mealy

Mountains terrane is quite sharp, and is termed the Fox Harbor fault zone (Gower, 2005). This fault zone is

marked by abundant high-grade mylonites, changes in lineations north and south of the fault, and a contrast

!!

in garnet abundances of rocks of similar composition north and south of the fault (Gower, 1996, 2005).

Rock types within the Mealy Mountains terrane consist mainly of anorthosite, lecuogabbro,

leucotroctolite, pelitic gneisses, and granitoids (Gower, 1996; Gower et al., 1987, 1988). Further south in

the Pinware terrane, there exist supracrustal quartzofeldspathic rocks, foliated to gneissic granitoids, layered

mafic intrusions, and mafic dykes (Gower, 1996). The quartzofeldspathic rocks are interpreted to be of a

felsic volcanic origin, based on an inhomogeneous texture that likely indicates pyroclastic origin (Gower,

1996). The boundary between the Mealy Mountains and southern-lying Pinware terrane is marked by

gneissic rocks and mylonites of the Long Harbour fault zone, a structural feature that strikes primarily

beneath the waters of the St. Lewis Inlet (Gower, 1996, 2005). Farther west, near the area where the St.

Lewis River empties into the St. Lewis Inlet, several thrusts are interpreted to mark the surface along which

the Mealy Mountains terrane overthrust the Pinware terrane in a southeasterly direction (Gower, 2005).

The Pinware terrane is the southernmost tectonic terrane in the Grenville Province. Abundant,

variably foliated granitoid rocks dominate the lithology of the Pinware terrane, with minor mafic plutonic

rocks and metasedimentary gneisses (Tucker & Gower, 1994). Coastal regions have outcrops of muscovite

schist interleaved with fine- to medium-grained, foliated, recrystallized quartzofeldspathic rocks whose

origins are believed to be from clastic and/or felsic volcanic protoliths (Gower et al., 1988). These

supracrustal quartzofeldspathic rocks are closely associated with alkali-rich granitoids and texturally

variable amphibolitic rocks (Gower et al., 1994). All lithologies within this terrane were thoroughly

deformed and experienced high-grade metamorphosis, with late emplacement of mafic dykes (Gower et al.,

1994).

Rocks to the north of the St. Lewis Inlet on license 17997M consist of granites, diorites, and

pegmatites. To the south of the Inlet, there are outcrops of the same granitic rocks, as well as amphibolite

and monzonites that are not present on the northern shore. Foliations in the area trend northwest-southeast,

with units dipping around 75° to the northeast.

Prospecting on license 17997M was conducted on June 30 2012. One traverse was run on foot, using the

Trans-Labrador Highway as a starting point. Prospecting was aided by handheld spectrometers. A hand-held

GPS was used for precise location control. A total of two lithogeochemical samples (459213 and 459247)

were collected by company personnel, bagged, and described. Sample locations are shown on Figure 4;

sample descriptions are found in Appendix B. The samples were transported and delivered by Alterra

Resources personnel to Activation Laboratories Ltd., located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, where

they were crushed to 80% - mesh and riffled to produce a representative sample. The samples were then

pulverized to 95% - 200 mesh with the pulverizing mills being cleaned after every sample with cleaning

sand. Next, samples were transported by means of courier to the ActLabs analytical facility in Ancaster,

Ontario where they were analysed for REE, major elements, and an extensive suite of trace elements. A

representative sample was treated by a lithium metaborate/tetraborate fusion and then analyzed by ICP and

ICP/MS techniques. Mass balance is required as an additional quality control technique and elemental totals

of the oxides should be between 98% and 101%.

For QA/QC purposes Alterra requires duplicates every 25 samples and two Alterra reproducibility standards

every 50 samples. ActLabs analyses duplicates and splits approximately every 15 samples and also analyses

29 measured standards for QA/QC. To further enhance our QA/QC procedures Alterra intends to establish a

program of checking analytical results with other labs to confirm the ActLabs results. ActLabs is an

ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory.

Definite conclusions regarding the REE potential of this property cannot be determined until the

geochemistry is received. However, this license could be reduced based on the fact that most of the property

contained within the claim is water. The northern and southern portions could be annexed to the adjacent

licenses. An addendum containing the geochemical results, assay certificates, and an updated conclusion

and recommendations will be submitted once the necessary material has been received.
