From its home base at the University of Adelaide, Elder Conservatorium of Music, the ASQ delivers a vibrant annual artistic program encompassing performances, workshops, commissions and education projects across Australia and abroad.

Violist Stephen King and cellist Sharon Draper are the current members and Artistic Directors of the ASQ. In 2015, they are joined by invited guest violinists to present the Quartets performance season, whilst working behind-the-scenes to recruit two permanent violinists to the Quartet.

A U S T R A L I A N

S T R I N G

Q U A R T E T

The Quartets performance calendar for 2015 comprises its National Season featuring three unique concert programs presented in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney; its own flagship festivals in the Southern Grampians and Margaret River; regional touring and an international tour to Italy in May.

The members of the ASQ are privileged to perform on a matched set of Guadagnini instruments. Hand crafted by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini between c.17431784 in Turin and Piacenza, Italy, these exquisite instruments were brought together through the vision of Ulrike Klein. The instruments are on loan to the Australian String Quartet for their exclusive use through the generosity of Ulrike Klein, Maria Myers and a group of donors who have supported Ngeringa Arts to acquire the viola.

DAY ONE

8.00pmOpening concert Myers Gallery

DAY TWO

11.30amMorning concert Myers Gallery

1.00pm Picnic lunch

Mt Sturgeon Woolshed

2.30pmAfternoon concert

Mt Sturgeon Woolshed

5.45pmDrinks and canaps

Myers Garden

6.30pmEvening ConcertMyers Gallery

8.00pmGala dinner

Royal Mail Hotel

DAY THREE

10.00am Morning tea and finale concert

Mt Sturgeon Woolshed

D U N K E L D

F E S T I VA L O F M U S I C

A T A G L A N C E

D U N K E L D

F E S T I VA L O F M U S I C

C O N C E R T P R O G R A M

DAY ONE

8.00pmOpening concert Myers Gallery

Debussy / String Quartet in G minor, op 10Zo Black, Paul Wright, Stephen King, Sharon Draper

Boccherini / Quintet in C, op 30 no 6 Paul Wright, Zo Black, Stephen King, Pieter Wispelwey, Sharon Draper

DAY TWO

11.30amMorning concert Myers Gallery

F Septimus Kelly / 24 Monographs for piano (1915) (selection) Anthony Romaniuk

Chopin / Cello Sonata, op 65Pieter Wispelwey and Anthony Romaniuk

Mendelssohn / Cello Sonata no 2, op 58 Pieter Wispelwey and Anthony Romaniuk

1.00pm Picnic lunch

Mt Sturgeon Woolshed

2.30pmAfternoon concert

Mt Sturgeon Woolshed

Max Reger / Solo Cello Suite no 1 Pieter Wispelwey

Graeme Koehne / String Quartet no 1, Divertissement: trois pices bourgeoises Zo Black, Paul Wright, Stephen King, Sharon Draper

Haydn / String Quartet in C Major op 33 no 3, The Birds Paul Wright, Zo Black, Stephen King, Sharon Draper

5.45pmDrinks and canaps

Myers Garden

6.30pmEvening ConcertMyers Gallery

Arensky / String Quartet no 2 in A minor op 35 with two cellosZo Black, Stephen King, Pieter Wispelwey, Sharon Draper

Schumann / Piano Quartet in Eb Major, op 47Paul Wright, Stephen King, Sharon Draper, Anthony Romaniuk

8.00pmGala dinner

Royal Mail Hotel

DAY THREE

10.00am Morning tea and finale concert

Mt Sturgeon Woolshed

Ross Edwards / Gallipoli*Zo Black, Paul Wright, Stephen King, Sharon Draper

Schubert / Cello Quintet in C major D956 Zo Black, Paul Wright, Stephen King, Sharon Draper, Pieter Wispelwey

*Commissioned by the Ian Potter Cultural Trust to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC

A U S T R A L I A N

S T R I N G

Q U A R T E T

Stephen King played violin while growing up in Canberra and turned to the dark side (viola) after all but completing an architecture degree in Brisbane.
