How do you tie together all of IBM's new, cloud-based cognitive services? In this action-

packed live demonstration session, you will see how the IBM Digital Experience allows

companies to create customized digital experiences using cloud-based services that

reinvent the way they engage with their most important audiences: customers and

employees. The demonstrations highlight how the IBM Digital Experience can be the

integration point for all your company's needs. You'll see how to use IBM's Commerce,

Watson, Bluemix, Cloud Cognitive Services, IBM Forms, Mobile and Collaboration

Software solutions to make better decisions and build customer loyalty, through different

live industry demonstrations for healthcare, insurance, retail and more.

Integration Using a Hybrid Cloud Data Lake

Sessions Architecture solutions and patterns

Breakout Session

,  09:00 AM – 09:45 AM

This session will demonstrate heterogeneous data integration using a hybrid cloud data

lake. The live demo use case is to support a bank’s marketing group. The marketing

group is trying to target customers who are good candidates for refinancing and home

loans. This session will illustrate and discuss best practices on the following topics:

hybrid cloud implementation; heterogeneous data reservoirs; metadata management

and governance; profiling/data quality; security and privacy; data integration topologies;

Data Citizen self-service provisioning; visualization and predictive analysis; advanced

analytics and modeling; and reporting dashboards.

ASP–1235: Successfully Architecting CognitiveCapabilities into the Fabric of a Cognitive Business

This presentation will describe a realized solution framework and architecture that

provides the flexibility and agility to incorporate both on-premise and cloud-based

cognitive capabilities into the fabric of insurance and financial services business

processes, including sales and marketing, from various distribution channels or systems

of engagement. The discussion will include methods to adopt and embrace new analytic

ASP–1283: Big Data and Analytics in a Cognitive Era

Sessions Architecture solutions and patterns

Breakout Session

,  10:00 AM – 10:45 AM

Building a cognitive enterprise is a journey. This talk will first explain how analytics and

cognitive are related to and different from each other. Next, it will discuss the three steps

to achieve the ultimate Cognitive Enterprise: 1) Expand the aperture of data and access

to data. Acquire all data (enterprise, third-party and public open data). Build data lake(s).

Break data silos. Provide management and governance and hence access to data for all

users; 2) Build a strong analytics and cognitive foundation. IBM has full capabilities to

support our clients; and 3) Empower all personas with analytics and cognitive

capabilities. Enable self-service and collaboration. Embed cognitive in the lifecycle of

analytics.

Telematics is so yesterday. Today we can not only sensor-enable vehicles, but also

homes, buildings and, yes, people! This session will describe a use case and the

proposed architectural ecosystem that allows an insurer to leverage real-time sensor

data collection and analytics in the cloud to provide insight and notifications to help

proactively manage human safety; i.e. protecting people. The services and capabilities

provided are to be delivered in real-time, while feeding a hybrid cloud data lake to drive

analytics, reporting and deeper insight across the sensor and customer data.

ASP–1419: Data Lake at ING: The Real Story Behind the"Marchitecture" and the Rollout

Sessions Architecture solutions and patterns

Breakout Session

,  01:00 PM – 01:45 PM

For the last three years, a small team within ING has been active in creating a data lake

architecture together with IBM: creating awareness in the organization, selling the dream,

pleading for money, and convincing 40+ countries that we need a data lake, and data

governance, and that we need to do it together. Now, three years down the road, we have

one build, rolled out to multiple countries, and have our first end-to-end processes live.

But it has not been an easy road. This presentation will go into the day-to-day

challenges of building a data lake, setting up data governance, struggling with

technology, and selling the story many times over to get the money to take on this

massive task.

ASP–1622: Overcome the Barriers of Cross-PlatformAnalysis for High Impact

Sessions Architecture solutions and patterns

Breakout Session

,  01:00 PM – 01:45 PM

This presentation shows how IBM and open source components can work together to

create a sophisticated big data analytical platform. Big data is being stored in many

locations, not just single data warehouses. Certain technologies are better at storing and

analyzing certain types of data: text in some, structured data in others. These storage

technologies are not directly compatible, creating barriers to cross-platform analysis.

The presentation will cover Hadoop, Fluid Query, Spark, the R programming language,

and other technologies for deep analytics and how to integrate them.

As more organizations build out their data lake infrastructure, it is becoming clear that

one key challenge that must be addressed is how to ensure maximum engagement with

the data lake assets by the various business users. This session will focus on the

practical approaches and considerations around building a glossary that provides the

basis for self-service access to the data lake by business users. What are the benefits of

a standard, business-meaningful glossary? What is the appropriate level of detail to

include in such a glossary? How best to accommodate the often conflicting

requirements of keeping the glossary truly business-meaningful, and also provide the

basis for enterprise-wide understanding, governance and data security?

Voice transmissions can operate on different frequencies based on a smartphone’s

attached network. Megahertz is a key contributor to voice transmission quality, whether

in a studio, an office, a car, or out in the open. Other quality impacts can include the

microphone and the individual's proximity to the equipment. When using speech-to-text

as part of a mission-critical system, the need to address variability of quality and

intelligibility of what is transmitted cannot be overstated. To address erratic quality

issues, Mer adopted a baseline comparative tooling algorithm with a blend of Bluemix

and Watson APIs along with open source APIs. It then created an advanced, mission-

critical system to help improve the quality of transcribed data.

scientists expect—and need—the ability to turn around new models, ideas and data

feeds faster and faster. But amidst this, intensifying regulation and publicity means that

risk tolerance is increasingly squeezed. So how can data technology groups meet these

seemingly conflicting demands of faster, cheaper change cycles while creating less risk?

The answer lies in replacing handoffs with integration, once-offs with repeatable

processes, and error-manual tasks with DevOps automation.
