potentially benefit from participating in the selected value
chains of ASLP2 (Sandra)

modalities and technologies for collaboration and value
chain enhancement (Rob)

A three pronged focus to work within an
assets based approach to youth development
• Recognising young people as an asset to their societies;
• Building on young people’s capacities and agency to overcome
poverty;
• Engaging young people in decision-making, as partners in
democracy and development
The Commonwealth Plan of Action for Youth Empowerment (PAYE) 2007-2015

• Aim to enhance the lives of youth in the
selected cluster villages by allowing them to
voice their concerns and future aspirations.

Questions are broad to explore issues young
people themselves may raise
• What is good about life in your village?
• What are your dreams, hopes, aspirations for the future?
• What are the main challenges for you?
• What have you done (or tried) to overcome these challenges?
• What would assist you to overcome these challenges?
Community Service Centre Model
“A conveniently located public place that is recognised and valued in the local
community as a gathering place for people and an access point for a wide
range of community activities, programs, services and events” (Rossiter 2007)
•A community meeting place
•Development of an ICT skills and resource centre
•A focus for community sports
– artificial cricket pitch
– indoor sports for girls
– ICT & sport - “Kinect Sports” that could include team-based and
individual sports
