Following is a selection of some frequently asked questions within the cleaning and hygiene sector that may be of use going forward.

Q: How do I get rid of limescale in toilets?

A: Limescale build-up in toilets is reduced through regular cleaning using a bristle brush and general toilet cleaner and descaler, paying particular attention to cleaning under the rim of the toilet. Once limescale

has built up to an excessive amount it can be very difficult to remove, however if you use a specially designed cleaning product liek Lifegruard Limescale Remover or Evans E-Phos, this should remove the problem

Q: What could I use to effectively remove urine smells and stains from upholstery?

A: Prochem has a specific product called Clensan which is a deodoriser and multi-surface sanitiser which has been specially formulated to tackle odourse caused by urine in upholstery and carpets.

Q: How can I stop getting smears and streaks from glass panels?

A: Use a dry micro-fibre cloth on the smear or streak and gently rub it away. Microfibres are able to attach themselves to even the smallest, most microscopic dirt particles, ones that normal cloth fibres would

brush past.

Q: I cleaned a wool carpet in the normal way and now brown patches have appeared. What should I do?

A: The brown marks may have one of three causes;1. soil wicking back up2. a previous spillage (probably tea or coffee).3. brown caused by lignin which is released from the jute of a woven carpet when over wet.

Test a small area of the stain with a pre-spray. If it is soil, it will transfer to a pad of absorbent tissue. Tannin stains will not transfer. If the stain is soil, reclean the area and hasten drying to prevent re-wicking. If the stains are likely to be tea or coffee (near a coffee machine), the carpet is NOT woven - use a coffee stain remover.

IMPROVING THE WAY WE WASH /DRY OUR HANDS MAY HELP TO COMBAT INFECTIONS. A STUDY FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF WINCHESTER REVEALED THAT JET HAND DRYERS

SPREAD BACTERIA 1,300 TIMES MORE THAN THE AVERAGE PAPER TOWEL

Wrong cleaning product causes mayhem!

A precision equipment manufacturing company moved into a new office that had linoleum floors, immediately slipping accidents started to happen on one floor at an alarmingly high rate. After puzzling over the problem, the health and safety advisor contacted the cleaning product supplier for advice, but the supplier couldn’t figure out what was happening either, as their product was not known to cause such problems. Eventually the advisor spoke with the cleaner and discovered that she was using regular washing up liquid to clean the floors with as the substance she was supposed to use was stored downstairs and it was “inconvenient” for her to go down and get it!

The offending floor was immediately cleaned using the right product and the slip resistance of the floor improved instantly. Needless to say, the floor cleaning substance is now stored on each floor in the building so the cleaner never resorts to using washing up liquid again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Every time I clean stainless steel, I just can’t get rid of the streaks left behind. What can I do?

A: The art of ensuring you have a streak free end result lies with the cleaning cloth. I would suggest that you use a multifbre cloth, such as the Chicopee® Dura-Dry. This cloth has Food Contact Clearance useful

if you are cleaning a fryer or kitchen worktop and will not transfer contaminants even when in direct contact with food, it provides excellent streak free cleaning for stainless steel so should give you the end result you are looking for plus it is food safe.

Q: I seem to be faced with an ever increasing number of cleaning products. Is this really necessary?

A: The number of products within your cleaning cupboard, will depend upon the tasks required, however there are products on the market that can eliminate or reduce cleaning product purchases. Before

recommending multi-use substitutes, you will need to speak with one of our experienced Sales Team.

Q: Why are my floors so sticky after I’ve cleaned them?

A: The chances are your are using too much chemical. More does not always mean better.
