A Dependant pass is not issued automatically with the principal pass—either Entrepreneur or Employment. It must be applied with the Ministry of Manpower separately.

Foreigners who hold any of the working visas including the S and PEP holders can apply for a Dependant pass even for their legally adopted children who are not yet of legal age.

“If a new baby is born in Singapore to an Employment pass holder, the hospital will send a letter to the baby’s parents and which shall be submitted to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority for an issuance of a Social pass for the baby,” adds Asiabizservices.

The Social pass is valid for 42 days and within such time the Employment pass holder should apply for a Dependant pass for the baby. The validity of a Dependant pass is similar to the principal labor pass—1 to 2 years. During renewal time, renewal forms for the principal labor pass and Dependant pass are sent to the principal labor pass employer as both passes can be renewed simultaneously.

Except on the premise of holding an S pass as the principal labor pass, the Dependant pass holder is eligible to work in Singapore and as long as the employer shall apply for a Letter of Consent with the authorities. The Letter of Consent bears the same validity period as the Dependant pass and will take 2 to 3 weeks for its approval.

“Dependant pass holders seeking for education may enroll in any of the local and international K-12 schools in Singapore,” Asiabizservices continued the elaboration, “nonetheless, should a Dependant pass holder seeks for higher learning, he or she must apply for a student visa.”

If the Dependant pass is applied together with the principal labor pass, the results are determined at the same time as well. Nevertheless, if it is applied later, the process will take between 2 and 3 weeks.
