General Information About Asia

Asia is the largest of the 7 continents. There are 48 countries in Asia. Most people of Asia are Chinese, Japanese,

Indian, or Arab. The main religions include Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Jainism, Christianity, and Shintoism. The

largest cities of Asia are Tokyo, Seoul, Jakarta, Dehli, Mumbai, Manila, and Shanghai. Asia is surrounded on three sides

by oceans. The Pacific, Artic, and Indian oceans all surround Asia. The land of Asia is divided into six regions. These six

regions are North Asia, Central Asia, Southwest Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. Each region has

something unique to offer.

Geography of Asia

North Asia is also known as Siberia. It's extremely cold year round with below freezing temperatures. Snow and ice

cover Siberia for most of the year. Siberia is the largest land area of Asia.

East Asia is the region with the most people. China is the largest country in East Asia. China has the most people of any

country in the world. To control the population, most families are only allowed to have one child. There are many

different languages spoken in China. The main languages spoken are Mandarin, Yue, Wu, Minbei, Minnan, Xiang, Gan,

and Hakka. The fourth longest river in the world runs through China. It is the Yangtze River. The Giant Panda lives near

the Yangtze River. China is most known for The Great Wall of China.

Central Asia is where the countries of the former Soviet Republic were located. Central Asia is made up of deserts,

mountains, and plateaus. Many people of Central Asia earn their living by raising animals such as sheep or goats.

Southwest Asia is also called The Middle East. The Middle East is known as the “Crossroads of the World” because it is

where the three continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe come together. Most of Southwest Asia is desert. One of the

most fascinating places to visit is the Dead Sea. It's located at the lowest point on earth. The Dead Sea is 417 meters

below sea level. It's the world's saltiest body of water.

It's so salty that most living things cannot survive in it. Only bacteria and fungi can survive the salty waters of the Dead

Sea. People actually stay afloat in the Dead Sea! Even the rocks along the seashore are salt-covered. Shepherds

walking along the shoreline made history when they discovered ancient biblical writings rolled inside of glass bottles.

These became known as the Dead Sea Scrolls.

South Asia is made up of many mountain chains including The Himalaya Mountains. The tallest mountain in this area is

Mount Everest. It's part of the Himalaya Mountains chain. Thousands of people have climbed Mount Everest. This is a

dangerous climb at 29,029 feet! The first person to climb to the top of Mount Everest was Edmund Hillary from New

Zealand.

Southeast Asia has thousands of islands surrounding a strip of mainland. Japan and Indonesia are located here and are

made up of many smaller islands. These countries along with China lead the world in manufacturing goods. Southeast

Asia has large rice farms. This region gets a lot of rain which is needed for growing rice.

We had to make bigger our image and goodwill more coherent and to communicate

through it our whole set of values. We re-evaluated most of the things: our new name,

new logo, office design, the exterior design of transportation, the brochures, billboards

and launch a campaign to promote new company and image of the company. It was also

now that we assumed the new slogan: "We just don't say the best, We do the best”

National Tourism Award winner - No venture can be successful without a vision and

determination to excel. Behind our steady growth is the focused and well-planned

business strategy of its dynamic leader. Our directors with their exceptional vision,

foresight & strategic planning have ensured the commendations of all in the travel

related field.

Bhutan, Tibet, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, as well as other selected countries around

Asia.

WE ENDEAVOR TO BE RESPONSIBLE tour operator and respect nature and the

environment we work in. Tourism is a key element in the global economy, but it also has

its downside. Environmental protection is nothing new to us, which has been

committing itself to environmental activities since 2000. Since then, we have regularly

taken part in cleaning projects on various mountain paths that have been affected by

intensive tourism.

We operate our own environmental cleaning projects to keep the environment neat,

clean and green. We also organize ecology training and attract volunteers to participate

in our environmental projects. Moreover, we aim to bring awareness to our employees

on the necessity to care for nature and the environment.

We encourage activities such as reducing the use of paper, plastic and electric energy in

office activities, re-use and recycling.

Dreams Wishes&Sanyog Gupta Foundation

For us charity begins at home. We would soon launch a charitable organisation name

“Sanyog Gupta Foundation”. The foundation will help out all waifs and stray

children, needy people for living and other health related financial aid.

We made an announcement of this foundation in an interview to the newspaper here in

New Delhi, India. I have been thinking of opening a foundation like this for long and

when I am settled mentally and financially I decided it's the right prospect to announce

our foundation, because for us charity begins at home.

The charitable sector is an imperative and captivating one, economically socially and

culturally. Every one of the world's great religions emphasises the moral imperative of

charitable living. There is no code of ethics, whether religiously based or secular, that

does not mandate the strong to look after the week, shares Sanyog.

We have made a start by planning, organising, directing, staffing and controlling and

soon the project will hit the ground. We would be glad to be given any help from the

corporate world to raise funds for the foundation.

Highlights: Mountain temple Phnom Bok - Pre Rup - Eastern Mebon - Sra Srang - Prasat Kravan - Small sanctuary Banteay

Day 01: Arrive Siem ReapArrive Siem Reap, meet assist and transfer to hotel.

Depending on your arrival time, after you have settled - in and freshened-up we will take you on your first journey into the kingdom of Angkor.

With your private guide and driver we will first visit the spectacular temple from which all other temples get their name, Angor Wat. Angkor Wat is particularly fantastic in the late afternoon light after the crowds have subsided.

Day 02: Siem Reap (B+D)After breakfast, proceed to less known temples on a path through the jungle until we reach the old Angkor road. We continue in northern direction to another mountain temple Phnom Bok. There are two towers, on whose tips a Frangipani tree grows. Our route next brings us to the temple of Banteay Samre. Finally, we start our way back towards Siem Reap with the option to visit other temples on the go: Pre Rup, Eastern Mebon, Sra Srang, Prasat Kravan or Ta Phrom.

you will leave Siem Reap to visit the Merchrey floating village. Once you have arrived at the port you will board the boat that will take you down the river through the local village communities. You will arrive at the Tonle Sap meaning ''Great Lake''.

Day 03: Siem Reap – Banteay Chhmar – Siem Reap (B+D)

After breakfast, little rest, for city tour You will be picked up at your hotel around mid-day. Upon arrival proceed to explore the temple ruins of Banteay Chhmar on foot. The massive restoration task is being undertaken by The Global Heritage Fund. Banteay Chhmar is one of the most decrepit of the Angkor era temples.

Later you will settle in to your room for the night – a luxury tented camp. The custom-designed tents are high quality Gore-Tex and allow substantial comfort including toilet facilities.

Day 04: Siem Reap – Phnom Penh (B+D)After breakfast, go for a walk to the local market. You will then take your vehicle, and travel to Banteay Top through typical rural Cambodian landscape with oxcarts, buffalo and local villagers working the fields.

Visit the small sanctuary Banteay. This temple is 9km south of Banteay Chhmar. The temple consists of three soaring and precarious looking towers teetering on the verge of collapse. The nearby pagoda has some truly beautiful wall paintings.

Later return to Banteay Chhmar. On the way back we will stop and visit the locally named 'Pol Pot Baray' - This baray was constructed during the brutal Pol Pot regime under, as you can imagine, horrific conditions.

Today, ironically the baray is an important water source for the villagers in the area. The baray is about 3km north of Banteay Chhmar and can be difficult to reach in the rainy season.

We will then start the drive back towards Siem Reap where you will catch your short afternoon flight to Phnom Penh where your private guide and driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel.

Day 05: Phnom Penh (B+D)Today's tour is walking and in a local tuk-tuk to truly get a feel for the city. Bring an empty stomach and an open mind on a tour through Cambodia's unique and diverse cuisine.

Wandering past stalls selling fresh meat and vegetables, your guide talks about traditional Khmer food. If you are feeling adventurous you will have a chance to try aping (fried spiders). Strolling further, fill your taste buds with snacks as mi char (fried noodle), sach kor ang (BBQ beef) with papaya salad, and nom krok.

We also try nom bort, sticky rice wrapped in a banana leaf. Walking past some of the capitals stunning colonial buildings, we reach the Old Market and Kandal Market.

Next we will venture into the darker side of Cambodian history by visiting the harrowing Toul Sleig Museum, left as a reminder of the atrocities of the Cambodian genocide.

In afternoon you have the option to explore the bustling area in front of the Royal Palace where you'll see monks relaxing, family's enjoyed the open public space and have an opportunity to join in a local aerobics class.

Day 01: Arrive Hong Kong Macau–Arrive Hong Kong, meet assist and transfer to hotel.

Macau is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Located across the Pearl River estuary from Hong Kong, until 1999 Macau was an overseas territory of Portugal.

One of the world's most densely populated spots, Macau generates more revenue from gambling than anywhere else on the planet, including more than seven times the revenue generated by "The Strip" in Las Vegas.

Day 02: Macau (B+D)After breakfast, Half day Macau City Tour and visit Ruins of St. Paul's, Fisherman's Wharf, Na Cha Temple, the City of Walls, A-ma Temple, casino & souvenir shop. Dinner at local Indian restaurant with transfer.

Macau was one of the earliest European colonies in Asia and the last to be relinquished (1999) and thus has a more visible colonial history than Hong Kong. Walking through the old city you could convince yourself you were in Europe - if the streets were devoid of people and signs in Chinese, that is. The Portuguese and Macanese populations continue to maintain a presence but, as expected, most of the population is native Chinese.

Day 03: Macau Hong Kong– (B+D)After breakfast, transfer 1way ferry to HKG Pier (Ticket included), arrival Hong Kong, meet and transfer, dinner at the local Indian Restaurant.

Besides the city itself, Macau includes the islands of Taipa and Coloane, which are connected to Macau by bridges and to each other by a causeway, now built up into the Cotai Strip. The Chinese city of Zhuhai borders Macau to the north, and the border crossing carries heavy two-way vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The Zhuhai Special Economic Zone extends south to Hengqin Island, an area west of Taipa, Cotai and Coloane; the Lotus Bridge from Cotai connects to that area. There is significant movement by the local population of both Zhuhai and Macau across the border, making the two feel like twin cities.

Day 04: Hong Kong (B+D)After breakfast, half day Hong Kong city tour, visit Kowloon Waterfront, Souvenir Shop, Jewellery Workshop, Victoria Peak by Coach. Dinner at local Indian Restaurant.

Hong Kong is renowned for its deep natural harbour, which enables ready access by international cargo ships, and its impressive skyline, with a very high density of skyscrapers; the territory boasts the second largest number of high rises of any city in the world. It has a very high Human Development Index ranking and the world's longest life expectancy.

Over 90% of the population makes use of well-developed public transportation. Seasonal air pollution with origins from neighbouring industrial areas of Mainland China, which adopts loose emissions standards, has resulted in a high level of atmospheric particulates.

Day 05: Hong Kong (B+D)After breakfast, Hong Kong Tour with 1day pass Disneyland Ticket. Dinner at local Indian Restaurant.

The source of the romanised name "Hong Kong" is not known, but it is generally believed to be an early imprecise phonetic rendering of the pronunciation in spoken Cantonese or Hakka, which means "Fragrant Harbour" or "Incense Harbour. Before 1842, the name referred to a small inlet—now Aberdeen Harbour between Aberdeen Island and the southern coast of Hong Kong Island.

Aberdeen was an initial point of contact between British sailors and local fishermen. Hong Kong was officially recorded in the 1842 Treaty of Nanking to encompass the entirety of the island.

The name had often been written as the single word Hongkong until the government adopted the current form in 1926. Nevertheless, a number of centuries-old institutions still retain the single-word form, such as the Hongkong Post, Hongkong Electric and the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.

Will I have trouble with the language barrier in Asia? You'll find some degree of English available in most tourist areas, or at least a friendly, English-speaking local willing to help out when you order food or purchase tickets. The language difference is rarely an issue and will not affect your enjoyment of Asia.

You'll encounter more language difficulties in remote places off the beaten path for sure. Even in places with little or no English, you'll be able to point or charade your way through with a little patience.

Are bed bugs a serious problem in Asia? The recent resurgence of bed bugs affected North America far worse than it has Asia. Ironically, Westerner travelers are bringing bed bugs to Asia from home, rather than the other way around.

Once considered only a problem for backpackers staying in the most budget of places, bed bugs are a serious and costly problem found even in four-star hotels. With a little vigilance on your part, you can avoid coming into contact with them and ultimately avoid spreading the pests.

Is Asia really crowded? For the most part, yes. A majority of the world's population calls Asia home, and most residents are squeezed into urban areas. You will notice a much higher density of people in public transport hubs, shopping malls, and even on busy sidewalks.

Don't be surprised if someone stands too closely while speaking to you. Or if trains and buses are consistently oversold beyond capacity. Have patience and keep in mind that the general considerations of privacy and personal buffer space may be different than that which you are used to at home.

Will I have to use squat toilets while in Asia? While Western-style sit-down toilets are more and more common, you will probably still encounter the odd squat toilet or two. Even modern shopping malls may still have squat toilets, mainly for sanitary reasons.

Do tourists pay double prices? If you're lucky! Tourists are often quoted prices for goods as much as five times what locals pay. Sadly, many tourists are viewed as being “rich” and only a select few honest proprietors will give you the local price when shopping.

Is Asia safe for children?Absolutely! Even more so than in the West, a large emphasis is placed on family and kids in Asia. Asian people generally adore both children and parents alike; kids are a great way to break the ice when meeting people.

While some destinations may be rougher and more chaotic for children, you'll find plenty of family-friendly beaches, towns, and areas throughout Asia. Use discretion; perhaps Thailand's anything-goes Full Moon Party isn't the right place to bring young children!

Do I have to worry about offending people accidentally?Part of the magic of visiting Asia is experiencing a culture very different than your own. While there are a handful of ways that you could unintentionally cause offense and not realize, Asian people are forgiving and know that you may not understand local customs.

Consider if a foreign visitor at home was pointing with their middle finger and had no idea the gesture was rude. While you would probably notice, you hopefully wouldn't take offense and become angry.

Will my cell phone work in Asia? That depends -- both on your phone and the way you wish to use it. In general, American phones will not work in Asia without some help. You can opt for international roaming with certain phones, but using it for anything aside from emergency contact will be very expensive.

Will my electronic devices be safe in Asia?More and more travelers are bringing smartphones, tablets, and laptops to Asia. Depending upon where you travel, the environment could be a little rough on sensitive devices. Sand, rain, insects, and bad power could cause trouble later.

Violent crime is less a problem in Asia than in the US or Europe, however, you should take precautions. Be vigilant with expensive devices; lockboxes are available in many hotels. Chargers are just as much a target for petty thieves; keep all electronics and accessories secure when using public transportation.

Do I need to book a tour to enjoy Asia?Absolutely not. While booking a tour may be a way to alleviate concerns for a first-time visitor, Asia can easily be traveled independently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Page 75: Asia - sanyog.travel › Images › hotel_img › brochure_file › Asia.… · where the three continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe come together. Most of Southwest Asia is desert

How many people travel in a group? The majority of our hop-on hop-off tour groups consist of between 10 and 15 people, with a maximum of 24 (including driver and Tour Guides). Having a small group size not only means we can offer a more personalised service, but it also gives us access to more destinations, activity and accommodation options.

Absolutely, that's the beauty of small group travel. You will make friends quickly and your Tour Guide will become a good source of support to you along the way too!

What does the Tour Leader do?Each hop-on hop-off tour group is accompanied by a Western or Local Tour Leader (or both!) to inform, enthral and entertain you with facts, stories and unbelievable insight into the local culture.

They will also book your accommodation and recommend top notch things to do every step of the way. Our guides are consistently one of the most highly-rated features of our trips - just ask any traveller of ours! They will become a good friend and source of support to you.

What will I eat whilst in Southeast Asia?Western food is sparse outside the main centres so come open-minded about eating local food. At our stops we will recommend tasty restaurants but when you get into local villages and homestays be prepared to eat simple local fare, with maybe the odd wild-card ingredient (which is part of the fun!).

Supermarkets are not the norm but we will point out places where you can stock up on food for the day. Depending what you eat, you can spend US$5 - 15 a day on food.

How do I get a visa? Can I get one upon arrival?Since visa requirements vary depending on where you're coming from and where you going, we recommend that you contact the appropriate embassy in your country of origin. For a general overview, you can find information on passports, visas and immigration in the Travel Guides.

What should I bring?Light clothes for the wet season (May – Oct) and something warm for the dry season (Nov – Mar), especially for the north of Laos and Thailand; a good travel medical kit supplied by a doctor (for any inconveniences).

Which style of trip is right for me?Our three styles of travel – Basix, Original and Comfort – cover a whole gamut of travel experiences. To find out which one has 'You' written all over it, visit our trip styles page.

Are trips physically demanding?Want to lie in a hammock and not move until cocktail hour? We've got a trip for that. Want to power up the side of mountain at high altitude? We've also got a trip for that. To determine what type of trip suits you best, each of our trips comes with a Physical Rating to let you know how physically demanding it is… or isn't. Find out more about ratings.

Does SGV have family trips? SGV offers a wide range of Family Adventures around the globe. The minimum age (for Family trips) varies depending on destination, and SGV has set minimum ages to ensure that the included activities suit each age range. Additionally, you'll notice that some of the more adventurous destinations have a higher minimum age.

How many people will be on my trip? Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we're small enough to remain flexible as we thread our way through communities without intimidating the locals.

On most of our trips you'll be part of an intimate group of 12-16 people, though our group sizes are on average 10 people. Our Overland trips are in purpose-built vehicles that can carry up to 24 travellers. Group sizes are displayed on each trip's overview page on our website.

Are there age restrictions on your trips? For the majority of our trips the minimum age is 15. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18. Our Overland Adventures have a minimum age of 18. Younger children can join us on our Family trips and Short Break Adventures, but check each trip for its minimum age, which is located

On the trip's overview page on the website. Most of our trips don't have a maximum age limit, but a Self-Assessment Form is required for all passengers 70 years and over.
