“Expect only the best” Friday 3rd November 2017 Welcome back, I hope you all had a good half term. Despite only be- ing here for four days we have certainly been busy ;with cross coun- try, swimming, forest school and today our Music Day. Also we have had our track fitted around the edge of our field so that we will be able to use it to keep fit and healthy during the winter months when we can’t use the field. We will have an official opening which we will let you know about in due course. Have a fun and safe Fireworks Night if you are celebrating this weekend. Ashton First School News Acorn For Forest school this week we all went out to the wood and toasted marshmallows, we looked at the beautiful au- tumn colours of the leaves and enjoyed walking through the leaves on the ground. Mrs Shiels told us all about safety around the fire., when we came back to school some of our clothes smelt of the bonfire. Willow Willow had a lovely afternoon just before half term practising their cave painting skills. The chil- dren collected natural materials from the school ground and mixed this with water to create “paint”. We then used sticks and fingers to draw pictures on the side of Mrs Thornton’s shed (it was ok, we put paper up first!). The children created a lovely mural, examples of which will be going on display in our classroom. Hawthorn This week the class have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We have been looking at different sources of evidence to find out about the past.

Today has been Music Day and the children have been working in their house groups to investi-gate sound and make music. We have been us-ing drums, Boom Whackers, hand Chimes and other percussion instruments as well as listening to music from BBC’s Ten Pieces and using this as inspiration for art. Thank you to all of the staff for being so flexible and especially to Mrs Stephenson for bringing the whole day together.

We are all looking forward to Skipping Day on Wednesday.

Don’t forget to bring in your forms on that day. We hope to

raise a lot of money for such a worthwhile cause.
