Good Afternoon everyone

Welcome to the Robert Parker Stadium for our SSE Women's FA Cup, 2nd qualifying

round match against Ascot United. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our

visitors and match officials.

Today is also a special day as we remember the late chairman, Dave Baker, who sadly

passed away in June this year. Dave, was always extremely passionate about all things

Ashford and was always very supportive of the ladies teams. He was a regular attendee at

our home games as well cup games, even coming to our last cup final in May this year

when we defeated Godalming in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy. The men's game

yesterday was dedicated to him, in which many of us from ladies section were present.

On the pitch, The first team has got off to a fantastic start to the league campaign defeat-

ing Colne Valley at home and Tottenham Hotspur Development away. In the process scor-

ing 17 goals and only conceding 2. Not only has the results been pleasing but the manner

of our performances has also been impressive for this early part in the season. However

we know that there is so much potential still to be revealed from both individuals and the

team as a collective which is very exciting going forward.

Today also see’s the B Team make the trip to Clapham Common where they take on Wan-

derers FC. After their tough opening game to the season, they have bounced back tre-

mendously to claim back to back victories against Westside and Sport London E Benfica

retrospectively. We are pleased with the way the players have approached the different

challenges that the opposition posed. The first team management have kept a keen eye

on the development of our young players in both training and games and the signs bode

very well for the future.

Finally I’d like to take this time to say thank you for your continued support of the ladies

team now and over the years.

Enjoy the Game, Will,

Dave Baker (1946-2018) Today’s match is in memory of our chairman Dave Baker (Pictured

Right) who sadly passed away in June this year. Dave has been

associated with Ashford for more than 30 years, with his first role

being the reserve team manager. After a stint at Feltham FC as

first team manager, he returned to Ashford to be part of the com-

mittee.

When the opportunity to become chairman arose, Dave was nomi-

nated but lost out in a narrow majority to Phil Marshall. Neverthe-

less he offered his full support to Phil, which demonstrated the

character that we all loved about him. However when Phil needed

to resign, Dave won the next vote and took on the role as chair-

man.

He worked tirelessly for the club and we can all agree that the club

is in a fantastic position thanks to him. He supported all things

Ashford, including our ladies team, and we felt the support. We

had endless conversations with him and were fascinated by his

anecdotes from his experiences in the past.

Dave was also a long serving referee on the Allied Counties

League and the West Middlesex Sunday League with some more

never ending tales. He also played for Ashford Veterans’ team for

a number of years.

Away from Ashford, he was a family-orientated man, and an avid

Fulham supporter. He was unfortunately diagnosed with asbestos

related cancer, which he fought with great determination right to

the end with the support of his family, including raising money for

HASAG (charity supporting people with asbestos related illness-

es).

He is sorely missed, and never forgotten. RIP DAVE

Ashford Town (Middx) Ladies Football Club — History

Overview

Starting in the summer of 2015 by Will Boye, the club began in humble beginnings in the GLWFL Division 3 (South). The 2015/16 season saw us crowned champions of the league on-ly losing one match and reach the final of the Capital Women's Cup, having defeated teams from 2 leagues above. The final was an entertaining affair finishing 4-4 after extra time only to come up short in the penalty shoot out. This was still a successful return for a team in their debut season.

The 2016/17 season saw us promoted to the GLWFL Division 2 (South) where we were champions again, this time going unde-feated throughout the season. Further success was to be achieved as we went on to win the Capital Women's Cup defeating Why-teleafe Ladies 5-1 and also winning the GLWFL Trophy, defeating Battersea & Hammersmith Ladies 3-2 after coming back from 2-0 down. This capped of a famous season being crowned treble win-ners. We also started a development camp, which offered football playing opportunities to girls aged 5-16 years old.

The 2017/18 season in GLWFL Division 1 saw us finish third but still gain promotion to the GLWFL Premier Division for the 2018/19 season. We also entered the SSE Women's FA Cup for the first time in our history, reaching the first round proper only to be knocked out by the Women's Premier League (South East) eventu-al champions MK Dons, three divisions above. The club still won silverware by defeating Godalming Ladies 8-4 to win the final of the GLWFL John Greenacre Memorial Trophy (League Cup). This sea-son saw us expand the youth setup with an Under 12s team com-peting in the capital girls league and providing coaching to older age groups up to 16.

Tottenham Hotspur Development 2-7 First Team

Back to back victories see Ashford continue their strong start to the season....

Ashford Ladies made it two league wins in their last two games after beating Spurs at the Frederick Knight Sports Ground on Sunday morning.

The Tangerines made the early trip to North London knowing a tricky game await-ed them with the home side having recorded a resounding victory over Hackney Womens the prior weekend.

Harriet Freeman, a summer signing for The Tangerines has been ever present in the backline preventing goals but this time she grabbed one of her own with less than two minutes gone on the clock. Alissa Down swung in a corner for Freeman to arrive at the back post and volley in a thunderbolt.

Within two minutes of the re-start Ashley Cheatley scored a real poachers goal by latching onto a failed clearance in the box, to turn and calmly slot into the bottom corner.

Ashford appeared to be cruising so early on in this game and after half an hour on the clock Neufville had scored two well taken goals of her own, lifting both over the goalkeeper from close range.

Captain, Charmaine Benham got herself on the score shoot also by heading in an-other Down corner.

Tottenham Hotspur Development got one of their own just before the break after good combination play in their attacking third which was confidently finished.

H/T: 1-5

The home side came racing out of the traps in the second half. After most of the game being a one-sided affair Sophie Burgess, Laura Huse and Freeman were called upon quite often. But it was Ashford who added to their lead in the 64th minute after Down made a late run into the box, was played in by Neufville in which Down finished effort-lessly by calmly lifting her strike over the goalkeeper. Nadia Peters came on at the half time break and used her speed to drive the visi-tors forward and created opportunities for Cheatley and Neufville to finish, only to be denied by the Spurs goalkeeper. Tottenham got another goal in which their second half performance warranted before Huse smartly headed in a Down free kick. Lineup: Burgess, Huse, Freeman, Sheehan (Baker), French (Peters), Pearson, Benham (C), Down (Fisher), Isaacs, Neufville, Cheatley. Subs Used: Baker, Fisher, Peters Goal(s): Freeman 1, Cheatley 2, Neufville 23, 25, Benham 31, Down 65 Huse 88 Player Of The Match: Huse

B Team 2-0 Sport London E Benfica

The B team also recorded back to back victories as they defeated newly formed Sport London E Benfica. Ashford took an early lead when Bahra Keeping headed a cross past the goalkeeper in the 6th minute of the game. Ashford had continued their dominance having many chances and eventually got the second goal their play deserved when Milly Adock slotted past the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situ-ation.

Unfortunately there wasn't anymore goals for the home side which their domi-nance deserved, however it was extremely pleasing that we kept another clean sheet which all players contributed to.

Lineup: Restel, Clark, Dodd, Cullen, Boyd, McBrinn (C), Novakovic, Berthier, Keeping (Mustafa), Kriebel, Adock (Prendergast, (T Waters) ),

Ascot United Ladies FC

Ascot United Ladies Football Club are a team that is based in the county

of Berkshire. They currently play in the Southern Regional Women’s

Football League Division, (SRWFL) premier division since their promotion

in 2017. Before that they were in the SRWFL, First Division for 4 years,

when they gained promotion in the 2016/17 season after finishing 2nd

to New Milton Town in a close battle that only meant 2 points separated

first and second. Last season they consolidated their place in that divi-

sion and this season will look to improve on their position and challenge

for promotion.
