Stonebridge Oast“My husband, Mike, and I moved to Stonebridge Oast in 2005 with three of our six children, just before we got married,” says Alison. “At the time we were starry eyed and when we initially viewed the house we were obviously wearing the proverbial rose-tinted spectacles, so it’s difficult to remember just how much work we have done, but there are plenty of photographs to remind us if necessary. The children loved the pool, I loved the beams as soon as I stepped into the hallway and Mike is very good at DIY, so it was a done deal. Lunch at the pub was followed by a trip to the estate agents, and the rest is history.”

“We’ve done so much to the house that it would almost be easier to list what hasn’t been updated or changed,” says Mike. The original kitchen is now the utility room, the dining room is now the kitchen and the once huge lounge has been split into a still very spacious lounge and a good size dining room.” “I’d say that our favourite room in the house has to be the kitchen,” adds Alison. “It’s a fabulous space for all occasions and it flows straight out to the pool area where the newly installed cover has proved to be invaluable. It not only means that we have a seamless extension to the house, but during good weather it can be pushed back allowing free access to the garden, and when necessary it provides swimmers with protection from the elements – the foolhardy have been known to swim even when it’s snowing outside.”

“The gardens are my delight,” says Alison, “and have evolved like any good garden should, with love, patience and knowledge of the soil and aspect. We built a sun deck across the pond which, being south facing, allows us to take advantage of the sunshine, and a large paved patio offers us a place to sit and relax at almost any time of the day, or year, come to that. The front has a cottage garden feel, and the boundary to the road is open and therefore promotes conversation with passers by and lots of useful gardening tips!”

“Woodchurch has been a wonderful place to live,” says Mike, “and has a really good community spirit. During the summer the village green plays host to cricket matches, fetes and a myriad of other events. There are exercise machines for the adults and a play area for the children.” “We also have a couple of shops for everyday needs, a post office, two lovely pubs and a museum,” adds Alison.

“We’re very proud of what we have done to the house,” concludes Alison. “It has been a wonderful family home, but we’re rattling around the place these days. After a lot of procrastination we feel the time is right to move on, hard though it will be.”*

MAIN DESCRIPTIONStonebridge Oast is situated at the southern end of the pretty village of Woodchurch which is perhaps one of the most popular in the area with its picturesque village cricket green, parish church and inns. There are village shops, a primary school and a doctor’s surgery whilst there are wider facilities in the surrounding area. The historic town of Tenterden with its busy shopping High Street offers supermarkets, schools and leisure amenities. The thriving market town of Ashford provides further retail opportunities, access to the M20 motorway and the International Station (Eurostar) along with 37 minute high speed trains to London St. Pancras. There are a number of schools in the area both in the state and independent sectors.

The house is believed to date back to the 19th Century and was converted in 1978 and over the past 10 years has been lovingly refurbished to create a fabulous family home. The current owners have undertaken a comprehensive programme of improvement and refurbishment, using high quality materials and the result is a wonderfully appointed home. The Oast is full of character with ragstone walls, exposed timbers, oak floors, an open fireplace, stained glass and latch doors.

Upon entrance you are greeted with a fabulous entrance hall with solid oak staircase. The sitting room is a beautiful space with an inglenook fireplace at one end. The dining room beyond has ample space for a large dining table.

The kitchen has been fitted with a range of solid wood units under a marble work surface. There is plenty of space for a breakfast table and French doors open to the swimming pool and gardens.

To the rear of the Oast is the large utility room and there is a contemporary shower room. Upstairs, the main bedroom suite has a huge amount of fitted wardrobe space and a lovely bathroom en suite with distinctive Catchpole & Rye sanitary ware.

There are four additional double bedrooms and a family bathroom. The whole is a bright and spacious home.
