There are lovely walking trails along the tranquil Seend Locks on the Kennet & Avon Canal, par t of a waterway joining London to Bristol and famed for its flight of twenty-nine locks, an engineering and aesthetic marvel and a paradise for canoeists, barges and anglers.
Days out can be spent at Lacock, a quintessentially English village located four miles from Merrett Cour t. Lacock is well known for its picturesque streets and historic cottages, and is one of the shooting locations for film and TV dramas including Downton Abbey, Pride and Prejudice, and Harry Potter. Access to the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a shor t drive away and the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath is approximately 10 miles to the west of Melksham. Bath offers a wonderful array of chain and independent retail outlets, many fine restaurants, cafés and wine bars. Bath offers a number of well-respected cultural activities which include a world famous music and literary festival, the Roman Baths and Pump Rooms along with many museums and ar t galleries.
Situated only 12 miles south of the M4 motorway, Melksham has excellent transpor t links. The train station is located two miles from Merrett Cour t with access to Bath, Chippenham, Swindon and a commute to London possible in circa 90 mins. The closest airpor t is Bristol which can be reached in just over an hour by car.
There are several nearby primary and secondary schools nearby including Forest and Sandridge CE Primary, Aloeric Primary School and Melksham Oak Community School. The neighbouring town of Trowbridge is home to St Augustine’s Catholic College, a secondary school with Sixth Form rated ‘Outstanding’ by Oftsed.
