Day 2

ASEAN’s Largest International Exhibition and Conference on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Environmental Technology

Renewable Energy and Environmental Science & Technology have been designed to meet one of the major challenges facing our world: How to increase the percentage of renewable energies in the global energy mix. Use of renewable resources and application of renewable energy technologies is destined to play a major role in future energy supply.

Thailand is facing a number of challenges in procuring energy security and is responding positively to energy pricing and affordability issues. In addition, the country is also dealing intelligently with contributions to carbon emissions in line with the government’s ambitious greenhouse gas emission program.

Along with many countries around the world, Thailand is experiencing environmental problems. This is due to population increase, economic development and industrial expansion. Economic development does not go hand in hand with environmental development. There is strong need for science and technology to continue contributing to global development and enhances the competitiveness of our country.

The Ministry fully supports the events like ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2017 (ASE 2017) which features the latest innovative energy sources and technology along with cutting-edge equipment that enhances overall business performance and overall competitiveness. This is in keeping with the Ministry’s use of science, technology and innovation - all part of using knowledge as a basis for enhancing the development of multiple industries and schools across the country.

On behalf of the Ministry of Science and Technology, I am proud to take this opportunity to congratulate UBM Asia (Thailand) - the show organizer - on the success of the show and our thanks go to all participants for their ongoing support and commitment.

Day 3

ASEAN’s Largest International Exhibition and Conference on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Environmental Technology

2017 is a very important year. To further support the development of the country’s transport sector, the Ministry of Transport will introduce a 20 year strategy for the development of Thailand’s transport sector. The strategy is the key to better business in the Kingdom and will continue for 19 years until 2036. The strategy will be used as a framework for Thailand’s development of a modern transportation system which is key to the country’s on-going success.

The system is being designed to utilize three main concepts, all of which comprise Green Transport. One of the goals is to concentrate on reducing the use of fossil energy sources and shift to clean or alternative energy while promoting environmentally friendly transportation technology. The second part of the Strategy will be Transport Efficiency - which will increase transport and logistic expertise by reducing costs via an extensive rail network that uses water as one of the main transport systems, in conjunction with road transport. The third concept includes upgrades to our Road Transport System and a Network that will enable all users, including the elderly, those with disabilities and children, to gain easier access to public transportation at a lower cost. The Ministry of Transport fully supports Energy Efficiency Expo 2017 - a part of ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2017 (ASE 2017). The 2017 will undoubtedly play a major role in contribution to the success of Thailand’s policy to promote the use of energy efficiency today and in the years to come.

On behalf of the Ministry of Transport, I would like to take this opportunity to thank UBM Asia (Thailand) - the show organizer for their expertise in organizing this exciting event.

Climate change is a major environmental challenge of the 21st century, and it affect all of us. Thailand and ASEAN countries are highly vulnerable to the climate change as a large proportion of the population and economic activity is heavily dependent on agriculture and natural resources. The national energy security is also at risk as the country’s heavy reliance on fossil is no longer economically and ecologically unsustainable. This crisis can only be effectively addressed through a comprehensive, cleaner, safer and environment-friendly energy management both in local and international levels.

Thailand has embraced the idea of clean energy and environment in the formulation of “Thailand 4.0,” a roadmap for socio-economic transformation towards an innovation-driven economy and society. All government initiatives thus far, those of the an Ministry of industry in particular, have been developed with regard to the concept of greener Thailand. For example, the target S-Curve initiative has identified the next-generation automotive industry as a key industry which the government supports rapid transition from Corridor project, we are building new green and clean cities with world-class, water and waste management to support the nation’s new special economic zone.

I am delighted that UBM Asia (Thailand) hosts the ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2017 (“ASE2017”). This timely event is very much in line with the government agenda and it truly can contribute to “Thailand 4.0” transformation. As ASEAN also needs to work closely together for cleaner and safer energy, ASE2017 provides much needed platform for people to connect, explore opportunities, and create new partnerships and collaborations in various areas including, clean and renewable energy, environmental -friendly machinery, low-pollution engine, waste-to-energy converter and water-management technology and innovation.

I would like to thank UBM Asia (Thailand), the exhibitors, related governments and private agencies, and everyone involved in organizing this event. I wish everyone great success.
