It serves as a means for organised civil society to express its concerns and provides its members with a framework in which to reflect and work together on matters of common interest to the Atlantic area and its regions which are brought before European, national and regional authorities. In recent years Irish Lights has transformed services are delivered, putting the emphasis on efficiency, cost-effectiveness and sustainability, while exploiting new technology and new opportunities wherever possible. Irish Lights is responsible for providing marine aids to navigation (AtoN) under the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention. Provides and maintains over 300 general aids to navigation; Manages about 4,000 local aids to navigation; and Marks or removes dangerous wrecks outside harbour areas around

Ireland.

Conference of Atlantic Arc Cities (CAAC) www.atlanticcities.eu CAAC is a network of territorial cooperation, based on the particular identity and challenges of the Atlantic Cities. Since 2000, the Conference of the Atlantic Arc Cities has asserted its position as an Atlantic Urban Forum, facilitating both the cooperation among its members and with other actors, creating awareness in the European institutions about issues concerning the Atlantic Cities.

Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) www.cpmr.org CPMR brings together some 160 Regions from 24 States from the European Union and beyond. European Regions Network for the Application of Communications Technology (ERNACT) www.ernact.eu ERNACT is a network of European regions and cities that work together to transfer and apply the latest digital technologies to assist the development of their regions. Five of the ERNACT members are located on the Atlantic Ocean, including the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. The others are Region of Cantabria and City of San Sebastian (Spain) and County of Donegal (Ireland) and City of Derry (Northern Ireland). The ERNACT regions have an inherent interest in the Atlantic Action Plan and have developed concrete plans and proposals for the development of Atlantic-wide projects in the innovation and tourism sectors utilising

submarine communications, sensors, seabed mapping, and big data. Over the years ERNACT have successfully delivered over 25 international digital technology projects with governments, universities and research centres in more than 130 European regions and cities, with a combined population of 50 million, across 20 countries.

European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) & EMODnet Atlantic checkpoint www.emodnet.eu & www.emodnet-atlantic.eu EMODnet is a network of organisations supported by DG MARE to provide a gateway to marine data in Europe through seven thematic portals, which are continuously widening their scope and geographic coverage. In addition to this, six EMODnet Checkpoints have been established to assess the status of marine monitoring in European sea-basins. This is done around 11 challenges with concrete, societal interest, such as windfarm siting, oil platform leaks or marine protected areas. The EMODnet Atlantic Checkpoint analyses the availability, quality and accessibility of marine data provided by the current observing systems to address those challenges.

European MSP Platform www.msp-platform.eu The European MSP Platform provides a service for Member States to share relevant knowledge and information on Maritime Spatial Planning. The Platform provides a single interface to draw together information and expertise from across Europe and make it available in a readily accessible, implementation-oriented format. A dedicated team of experts specialised in MSP as well as communication and project design are situated in each of the European sea-basins, acting as personal contacts and liaison offices, keeping track of new developments in MSP. The Platform provides a diverse range of information on MSP in different countries and sea basins, practical information relevant for MSP, an overview on previous and ongoing MSP projects, EU-wide and national funding opportunities, a question and answer service and technical studies to enhance MSP implementation.

Galicia, a Blue Smart Region - Xunta de Galicia (ES) www.gain.xunta.es & www.xunta.es Xunta de Galicia (Spanish Regional Government) is committed to the implementation of the Innovation Strategy linked to Blue Growth within Atlantic Area. The Region’s representation at ASPC2016 has three objectives: To disseminate Galicia Blue Growth capabilities and good practices

implemented in the region in this regard, with special focus on the contribution of these practices and capabilities to the Atlantic Action Plan, and to the enhancement of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Geological Survey of Ireland (IE) www.gsi.ie A division of Ireland’s Department of Communications Climate Action and Environment, the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) is Ireland’s national geoscience agency. As such it acquires baseline geological datasets, provides geological information and advice. In order to generate information that uncovers knowledge for our marine territory; the GSI instigated large scale marine mapping on forming the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS) in 1996. On completion of deep water mapping, INSS was succeeded by the INFOMAR Programme. Jointly managed by the GSI and the Marine Institute, INFOMAR continues to provide pivotal seabed mapping datasets and geological data products that support Ireland’s Integrated Marine Plan. INFOMAR’s free data policy supports Marine Knowledge and furthers the maritime economy by promoting easy access to seabed mapping datasets that underpin; maritime safety, security and surveillance, governance, business development, research and technology innovation and infrastructure. Internationally, the GSI are partners in marine research and data collation projects such as the EC funded EMODnet Bathymetry and EMODnet Geology that strive to collate fragmented data across Europe and make these data openly available as standardised data products.

Supporting Implementation of Maritime Spatial Planning in the Celtic Seas (SIMCelt) The Supporting Implementation of Maritime Spatial Planning in the Celtic Seas (SIMCelt) project has secured funding from the European Commission to run a Marine Spatial Planning project in the Celtic Seas. The project brings together a number of partners – research organisations, marine planning authorities and marine management bodies – who have extensive experience with regard to marine planning, policy and management. The SimCelt stand will introduce participants to the project and give them an opportunity to engage with its aims.

The Celtic Seas Partnership

www.celticseaspartnership.eu The EC LIFE+ funded Celtic Seas Partnership project’s aim is to support the implementation of MSFD and delivery of Good Environmental Status in the Celtic Seas through applying an ecosystem approach. Effective stakeholder engagement is an essential, but commonly overlooked, component of the ecosystem approach. The Celtic Seas Partnership, which is led by WWF-UK, facilitates engagement between sectors and across borders to ensure the long term future of the environment, while safeguarding people’s livelihoods and the communities that have a relationship with the sea. The Celtic Seas Partnership project has engaged with over 950 marine stakeholders, from 6 countries and 14 broad sectors, including policy makers, scientists, fisheries, energy, environmental NGOs, aquaculture and shipping.

The Entrepreneur Ship is delivered by the IMERC partnership of the Cork Institute of Technology, the Irish Naval Service and the University College Corke.

University of Cádiz (ES) www.uca.es The University of Cádiz’s representation at ASPC2016 will promote its maritime Entrepreneurship project idea, other projects, as well as the capacities of the University of Cádiz in the marine and maritime field.

Vertigo Lab (FR) www.vertigolab.eu Vertigo Lab a research office and study, a think-and-do tank specialised in economics and environmental management is a young innovative company, which operates from the local level to the European policies in support of private and public actors. Its thematic areas include biodiversity principally, but also water management, agro ecology and urban agriculture, the challenges of climate change and new forms of economy.
