TRENTON Gov. Chris Christie says he wants to bring casino gambling to NorthJersey, a project that could provide a lifeline for Monmouth Park even if the land-mark Oceanport racetrack isnt selected to add blackjack tables and slot machines toits win-place-show bets.

Hard Rock International says it will roll out plans for a casino at the Meadowlandsnext week, with projections of $500 million in tax revenue for New Jersey, and ven-ture capitalist Paul Fireman has sketched out a $4.6 billion Jersey City casino devel-opment.

Key state lawmakers say they envision a piece of the action from a new upstatecasino being set aside to help sustain the struggling horse racing industry at Mon-mouth Park and nearby Freehold Raceway, as well as the Meadowlands, which hasthe states third racetrack.

For the second time in two weeks, a former Lake-wood police officer was arrested and accused of a her-oin-related charge.

Matthew Moore, 32, was arrested within the pastweek as part of operation Broken Rule, a crackdownon heroin distribution by the Ocean County Prosecu-tors Office, according to spokesman Al Della Fave.Moore is accused of conspiracy to possess, with the in-tent to distribute, more than five ounces of heroin, ac-cording to a release from the Prosecutors Office. Hisbail was set at $75,000 with no 10 percent option.

Della Fave confirmed this is the same former copwho was arrested May 17.
