Unlike the United States, you'll find wineries within easy access wherever you call home while vacationing in Italy. Among the most popular,

It was conceived in 1993 to encourage winemakers to open their wine cellars and vineyards to visitors and to welcome them as

family. MTV's initiatives have not only increased Italy's stature in the global marketplace, but have also opened a whole new

Cantine Aperte Since 1993, the last Sunday in May each year, most of the MTV wineries

open their doors to visitors. Cantine Aperte is a huge, nationwide event,

well worth taking part in. 2015 event's 800+ "open wine cellars"

enthusiastically received more than a million visitors for the festivities.

Benvenuta VendemmiaOnce again, at the end of September, participating MTV wineries throw their doors open to the public on a Sunday—this time in celebration of the grape harvest. Benvenuta Vendemmia follows up on the

Calici di StelleEach August 10th, in honour of San Lorenzo, MTV

sponsors a wine tasting festival held in the finest piazzas throughout Italy, showcasing the finest Italian

wines. If you happen to find yourself in Italy in August, find your way to the closest participating square and soak up the wine, the music, and the

Vinitaly Vinitally is an annual wine trade exposition taking place in Verona each April. Although this is a trade-oriented

event, it is an interesting place to be for all wine lovers.

“Pigro, cantautori in vigna”.

E’ essa stessa spazio espositivo con una collezione che comprende opere di Pietro Cascella, Gino Sabatini Odoarsi,

Mauro Berrettini, Dino Colalongo, David Bade, Bizhan Bassiri, Mimmo Palladino e Franco Summa.

Dall’Abruzzo alla Toscana, un viaggio alla scoperta delle aziende vinicole che uniscono all’amore per il vino quello per l’arte.

Settembre, tempo di vendemmia. Alla visita in cantina oggi si unisce l'interesse per l'arte.

Sempre più numerose sono, infatti, le cantine che promuovono progetti d'arte

contemporanea ed espongono le opere appositamente commissionate all'artista per il

luogo. Ecco alcuni esempi per un tour alla scoperta del vino e dell'arte contemporanea.

Castello di AmaDal 2000 Castello di Ama – produttore di un esemplare Chianti

Classico Riserva – ha inaugurato un progetto di arte contemporanea, in collaborazione con Galleria Continua di San Gimignano, una delle più prestigiose gallerie private in

Italia, con sedi a Parigi e Pechino e un programma veramente globale.

Ogni anno un artista è invitato a realizzare progetti nell'azienda vinicola: il primo è stato di Michelangelo Pistoletto mentre il

secondo è stato affidato al fotografo giapponese Hiroshi Sugimoto.

Cantine AntinoriAnche qui l'arte è di casa. Il progetto architettonico è stato realizzato da Marco Casamonti, cofondatore dello studio Archea, ma anche figlio del famoso

gallerista fiorentino Roberto Casamonti, fondatore della galleria Tornabuoni con sedi in Italia e a Parigi. Ma il legame con l'arte non si esaurisce qui: i Marchesi Antinori hanno commissionato la realizzazione di diverse opere ad artisti come Yona Friedman e Rosa Barba. L'ultimo progetto è firmato da

Tomás Saraceno: tre biosfere sospese nello spazio.

Tenuta Castelbuono

In questo caso è la stessa cantina ad essere un'opera d'arte: il cosiddetto "Carapace" è una "scultura" del

famoso Arnaldo Pomodoroall'interno della quale si vive e si lavora. La famiglia Lunelli, da tre generazioni alla

guida delle Cantine Ferrari, ha commissionato la realizzazione all'artista in virtù dell'amicizia che li lega e

questi ha accolto la sfida di superare i confini tra scultura e architettura. Il nome deriva dalla forma della struttura

che si ispira alla tartaruga, simbolo di stabilità e longevità.

Cantina Ceretto

Dal 1999 la famiglia Ceretto ha dato vita ad una serie di iniziative artistiche e architettoniche nelle Langhe tra cui la ristrutturazione di una piccola cappella mai consacrata ad opera di Sol LeWitt e David Tremlett, la

realizzazione di un cubo panoramico a Bricco Rocche, una sorta di monumento al Barolo, e un altro

osservatorio a forma di acino a Monsordo.

Si riconosce immediatamente la firma di Mario Botta, autore dell'edificio della Cantina Petra a Sovereto, in provincia di Livorno: una struttura avveniristica ma

allo stesso tempo profondamente radicata nel territorio. All'interno una mostra fotografica di

Oliviero Toscani: un racconto per immagini che esalta la bellezza dei cibi dell’Arca del Gusto di Slow Food e

quella dei volti dell’Atlante antropologico “Razza Umana”.
