The stunning, blond sister of Edward, Alice, and Jasper,Rosalie Hale is the “wife” of Emmett and the vocalcontrarian of the family.

Immediately disapproving of Edward and Bella’s

relationship, Rosalie makesno secret of her displeasureat Bella’s intrusion into theheavily-guarded Cullenlifestyle. As vain and beautifulas she was in life, and havingbeen involuntarily “saved”from death at the age of 18 byCarlise, Rosalie questions her identity as a vampire and isenvious of Bella’s humanity.



The brawniest of theCullen kids, Emmett is

most intimidating even tohumans who do not knowhis vampire secret. Incontrast to his mate,Rosalie, Emmett is good-

natured and supportive of his brother Edward,though initially wary of Edward’s attraction to ahuman girl. Like hisfavorite snack, Emmettpossesses a bear-likestrength and size that mayprove useful to the Cullen

clan in a fight.



As a senior police officer in thesleepy town of Forks, CharlieSwan has few preoccupations

other than fishing and watchingsports on TV -- that is, until histeenage daughter Bella moves inafter leaving her mother Renee inPhoenix to enjoy a secondmarriage. Charlie’s bachelor

tendencies lend themselves toBella’s grown-up impulses andshe ends up playing the role of caretaker with him, as she hadwith Renee.

Not one for talking, Charlie isquiet-natured and guarded – traitshe passed on to Bella. But he isalso fiercely protective of her, inhis own way, and might not be asquick to welcome Edward into his

Like her husband, EsmeCullen became a vampire inher twenties, having been

transformed by Carlisle on her deathbed in the 19th century.

Esme loves all of their children passionately, but

especially worries for Edward,for whom she wishes thesame romantic happiness thatthe rest of the family hasfound. When Edward falls inlove with Bella Swan, Esmeembraces her son’s choiceand welcomes Bella into thefamily.



Dr. Carlisle Cullen is the patriarch,founding member, and moral bedrock of Edward’s family, having instilled a senseof responsibility and compassion into his

vampire clan along with his wife, Esme.

Sealed forever in the body of a 23-year-old, Carlisle nevertheless commandsthe respect of his peers, human or vampire, as befits a man of his age:about 368 years, give or take. Thanks to

years of training, Carlisle is the onlymember of the Cullen family with almostno reaction to the smell of human blood.

Putting his immortality to good use,Carlisle studied and practiced medicinefor many decades, earning an esteemed

reputation in Forks for his tirelessdedication -- though his family mustobey a strict treaty with the Quileutepeople, who know and warily keep hisfamily’s secret.



While Edward and the Cullenclan are committed to sparinghuman life, not all vampires

share their philosophy. Enter James, Laurent, and Victoria --a nomadic trio of human-hunting vampires who stumbleupon the Cullens and Bella

during a friendly game of baseball.

While Laurent may prove opento the Cullen’s peacefullifestyle, his associate James is

another matter; a “tracker” bynature, James enjoys the thrillof the hunt, and will stop atnothing to beat Edward and hisfamily in order to taste Bella’ssweet blood for himself.
