Be Prepared

The Scripture readings during these last days of the liturgical year remind

us of the temporary nature of all that is in this world with the hope that we will

be prepared for both the end of our personal journey here in this world, as well as

the end of the world as we know it. Our Lord reminds us in the Gospel today

that we must be prepared for His coming at all times, since we do not know

precisely when that will be. We do know, however, that our Lord is with us

now to guide us and give us the necessary strength we need as we strive to live

out the Gospel in our daily lives.

When the Lord comes, will He say to us, “I do not know you”? If we have

taken the time to get to know Him in this life we can be sure that He will say, “I

do know you. Come into this place I have prepared for you.” We can only come

to know the Lord by speaking with Him (prayer), living out daily what He asks

of us, caring for one another, being willing to forgive and being at peace with

each other. Let us make sure that we are prepared by living each and every day

as best we can. If the Lord should call us today, tomorrow, or even in the distant

future, will we be ready to meet Him?

Father David

Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11th

There are many ways to honor veterans on this special day. In lieu of its annual Veterans Day ceremony, DuPage County will provide a virtual gathering place to celebrate veterans. They are offering a Veterans Day portal, which can be found at www.dupageco.org/veteran. The site allows residents to create their own Honor Post highlighting their loved one or friend, along with a photo and written tribute. Other ideas to honor veterans this day is include making a donation to some of the wonderful organizations that support our veterans, writing a letter to a veteran or saying a prayer for veterans for their safety and wellbeing.

A Prayer for Veterans

Lord, today we honor our veterans, worthy men and women who gave their best when they were called upon to serve and protect their country.

We pray that you will bless them for their unselfish service in the continual struggle to preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us.

Bless them abundantly for the hardships they faced, for the sacrifices they made for their many different contributions to America’s victories over tyranny and oppression.

We respect them, we thank them, we honor them, we are proud of them. We pray that you will watch over these special people and bless them with peace and happiness.

Christmas Basket Program

St. James the Apostle Parish

56 YEARS OF GIVING!

e will be holding our Christmas Basket program to benefit clients in

DuPage County of Catholic Charities and St. Vincent DePaul once again this year! However, this year, due to the complications presented with the need to social distance, we will be collecting gift cards ONLY to be distributed to these needy families. The need for a blessed Christmas is greater than ever! So many families have come on hard times over the past year. We are asking you to be as generous as you usually are, but to provide a number of gift cards, so that the families can purchase their own gifts. • If you normally select a large

family (6-10 people) please buy the equivalent in gift cards.

• If you normally purchase for a small family (2-5 people) please buy the equivalent in gift cards.

• If you normally bless a single person, please buy the equivalent in gift cards.

Please consider buying gift cards for grocery, gasoline and personal shopping at a location like Walmart or Target. Of course, whatever you can offer will be welcome.

St. James School continues to be an excellent source of gift cards through our Crusader Cash program. By purchasing gift cards

through the school, a percentage of the purchase in gift cards will benefit the school. This is a win-win for everyone! To learn about how you can purchase Crusader Cash, please read the information following on the next two pages. Once you pick up your gift cards, please drop them off at the Ministry Center Office in an envelope or package marked “Christmas Basket Program”. If you arrive after hours, you may also leave them in the GREY LOCK BOX- Please DO NOT leave them in the wooden mailbox. All gift cards must be received in the parish office no later than Thursday, December 3rd in order to be distributed in time to the needy families through Catholic Charities and St. Vincent DePaul. If you would like a receipt for tax purposes please include your name, address and the amount you are donating on a note enclosed in the package with your gift cards, and we will see that Catholic Charities provides this to you. Should you have any questions about this project please call Dawn Fitzpatrick at 803-325-5903. May God Bless you all!

How to Purchase Crusader Cash from St. James School .....................................................

When everything changed in March, the school can no longer sell Crusader Cash gift cards after Masses on the weekends, but there are still 3 ways to purchase what you want: #1: Order Online*

The School Office is trying to limit the traffic through the school, so we are encouraging everyone to order at www.shopwith scrip.com and then pick up your order when it is ready. If you are a school family, orders will be sent home with the student unless otherwise requested. #2: Schedule an Appointment to Purchase at the School Office

If you feel uncomfortable ordering online, the second way please contact the School Office and ask for Jennifer Frieling (630) 469-8060 —OR— crusadercash@ stjamesge-school.org and schedule an appointment, at which time she will see what is available for you to purchase or if she needs to place an order for you. #3: Drop Off Your Paper Order at the School’s Locked Mailbox

A third option is to complete the order form found on the next page, place it in a sealed envelope marked “CC Order – Attention Jennifer Frieling” and put in the locked mailbox outside the school doors (Door 1).

*What do you need to do to shop and order online? .....................................................

Before you begin, contact Jennifer Frieling by phone at (630) 469-8060 or via email at crusadercash@ stjamesge-school.org to get the enrollment code you will need to enter to access St. James School. 1) Go to www.shopwith scrip.com 2) Click on the “Join a Program”

tab at the top 3) Click on the “Register” tab at the

top 4) Then click the tab that says “For

Families – Join An Existing Program”

5) Click on the “Enrollment Code” tab

6) Enter the code and click “Register”.

Once your account is setup, you can submit an order online. There will be payment options where you can pay with cash or check when you pick up or you can set up a Prepaid Account that will be billed directly from your bank account. These are all easy options. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact: Jennifer Frieling (630) 469-8060 —OR— crusadercash@ stjamesge-school.org

I n these unprecedented times, when so many of us are unable to gather for public worship, we may be experiencing a sense of disconnection

from our family of God at St. James.

Similarly, those of us who are able to return to public worship may feel a sense of loss and disconnection from our brothers and sisters in Christ whose faces we miss seeing gathered at the Table of the Lord each week.

Although we are physically apart at this time, the truth is we remain ONE in Christ. Therefore, in an effort to stay connected, we are happy to launch Project ONE at St. James as a safe and creative way to bridge this temporary obstacle the pandemic has ushered into our lives.

So far, Project ONE has distributed care packages to parishioners in October & November. Want to join in the fun for December? Be sure to sign up before November 15th.

Join Project ONE today! No matter your age or circumstances, any parishioner may join—it is open to all and there are three ways to participate:

1) Sign up to receive a monthly care package filled with love from your parish family. You can arrange for delivery outside your home OR pickup outside the Ministry Center.

2) Sign up to pray for a fellow parishioner and write a note of support to include in their monthly care package.

3) Sign up to deliver the Project ONE monthly care packages outside the home of a recipient.

Let us never forget we are ONE body in Christ! Sign up today to connect with your family of faith! Call 630-469-7540, ext. 205 —OR— email [email protected] —OR—visit stjamesge.org to join.
