AS MEDIA EVALUATION

PRELIMINARY TASK

HOW WELL DID YOU PLAN YOUR PRODUCTION AND WHAT METHODS DID YOU USE?

We had a week to plan our preliminary task and agree on what theme and storyline of our preliminary production should be. We didn’t l ike the idea of constant planning but we were able to put our ideas together as we were able to be creating and loved to combine and coprimise our concepts we had in our imagination.

We started off brainstorming ideas about theme, plot, characters and setting. We created a storyboard which plotted each shot of our story. In the storyboard, we noted our media knowledge of types of shots to ensure we captured all the shots necessary for the preliminary task

WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR CHOICE OF THEME?

We wanted our prel iminary production to fulfil our target audience’s interests. We chose the theme of thri l ler and horror to engange our audience which is mainly teenagers and adults to create thri l l ing expierences. The theme also gave us an opportunity to demonstrate our creativity and technical camera ski l ls.

Al l of us picked thri l ler/horror theme because we al l find i t most interessting genre.

WAS THIS AN EFFECTIVE METHOD?

We all used our own time to create a story and we combined a lot of details together. This also helped us to demosntrate group and independed work, so all of us felt creatively involved and not left out.

In this way there was no conflict involved because we were able to produce a film that we all agreed on.

HOW WELL DID YOUR PRODUCT MEET THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL?

During our planning, we tried to film as soon as possible so we can have lots of time to edit, it was also our perliminary task so we didn’t really get into deep planning or overthinking. The product met our original proposal but for one factor; the location.

We originally wanted to film in Canary Wharf however the distance of the location was too far for our group to commute to. Canary Wharf was also agreed to be an excessive travel expense for a preliminary task. Therefore we collectively decided on a more local location which was more convenient for our group; King's cross station. At the back of King's cross station, there are large corporate building which resemble canary wharf.

CAMERA COMPOSITION AND MOVEMENT OF SHOT

Camera composition is what is in the view of the camera lens and what is being captured within the frame of the image and how the mise en scene appears on the screen.

Movement is the effect that panning and titl ing have on the shots.

Non Diegetic sound is where the origin of the sound cannot be seen on the screen. For example, narration/ voiceovers or sound effects such as aminal noises in the background.
